#bondivet
I recently discovered a cool show called "Bondi Vet" that follows multiple vets in and around Bondi, Australia to give viewers a "behind the scenes" look at real life veterinary medical cases. The show is cool and I came across this particular episode which struck me as a neurologist because it involves an acutely paralyzed dog (owned by one of the Bondi Vets - Dr. Scott). This video provides me a good opportunity to dig a little deeper into the pathophysiology, diagnostics, and treatments involved in working with such a case. Basically my whole goal with this channel! Hope you enjoy and please like, sub, and comment if you desire!

Thank you, Dr. Cellini, for this video! I really appreciate your thorough explanations and insight on what's being presented in the video. I work in the vet field so I have some prior knowledge but I really like how you went more in-depth, especially with your explanation of the importance of nociception. This cleared up the why for me and helped me understand this animal's predicament better. Thank you!

Great video! Among your best, I think! I'm curious, in Betty's case, she was treated by a orthopedic surgeon. As a neurosurgeon, is this a situation where each specialty would perform the same procedure, or are the two taught different approaches? In other words, is it a scenario that would fall into either specialty?
@DVMCellini
@DVMCellini 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it falls into either specialty. Just depends on where you are and who is available to do it. Both are fine imo.

This was a great video and we ( with your permission I hope ) will be adding this to our client resource materials . We get these cases all the time and it’s alot for owners to take in especially with the pet on the exam table in pain or not able to move . Allowing them to watch this - a vet going through the same emotions they are feeling and having the medical condition explained so well and the journey of the pet - well let’s just say this video and how you have done it - is gold . I wish I had access to this a week ago - I had a Frenchie present with the same symptoms as Betty . The owners took him immediately to the emergency vet referral hospital that has a neurology department. They diagnosed the same location compression as Betty . The owners went thru alot of emotional turmoil trying to make the best decision- surgery or no surgery. Now the neurologist did their best trying to explain the prognosis and I was on the phone several times as well . Your video I think would have helped them navigate this . I guess what I am trying to say is thank you for putting this video together so well . Vet from Canada

They have to blur surgery footage to comply with youtube TOS. It's frustrating but there's not much they can do about it unfortunately. Dr Cellini you'd probably enjoy episodes of Bionic Vet. The Orthopaedic surgeon in this video used to work with him when he was younger. The Bionic Vet takes on cases a lot of other vets can't or won't do and most of the filmed cases are of the animals having a new bionic limb attached. Not your field of expertise but very interesting nonetheless.

I've subscribed to this channel for a few years, starting with your explanation of the French Bulldog ban. Was astonished at what I learned. Now I come across your reaction to VetRanch (I am an addict to that channel) and now BondiVet, which I also binge on. Paralysis is a common topic on the handicappedpets threads and this is so much more descriptive. Thank you for this easy to understand lesson on paralysis. I myself was paralyzed 16 months ago, and because that was not an option, I was a rehab warrior (!) and now have full (but wonky) use of my own self.

Sometimes the knowledge that comes from being a vet makes certain things harder. My 9 yo lab/pit mix had her first ever seizure and instead if my initial reaction being "oh ny God! What's happening?" my first reaction was "Dammit! She has a brain tumor." 😢Sadly, I was correct

Thank you fir this video! My cat has some strange trembling and twitching in his ears... i cant find any information about it and my vets are not really helping mutch... Can that be because of an issue lile this? Its not normal twitching, its as if he cant hold them still, comes and goes. Im doing everything i can to learn something that might be of help, he has some face twiching and back rolling and so on.. because of that im worried about seizures.. or this.. or other things. All i can do is to give him pain medication. Sorry for asking.. im running out of options and for some reason im the one who ends up presenting possible diagnosises and things to try to the vets, and i just cant make them take the wheel.

As an exotics and wild animal vet, I've found lots of medical faults in Bondi Vet. But with all the respect I think that is an example of most Australian vets lower quality of practice compared to US vets. Please note that I'm a middle eastern vet and I'm not practicing neither in US nor Australia.

@@DVMCellini First, looking at their textbooks it feels like they are not as evidence-based and deep as US-based textbooks (At least in the field of zoological medicine). For instance, Mader's textbook of reptile and amphibian medicine versus Dr. Bob Doneley's reptile medicine book. 😁 The second reason may be that they have just started the specialty chapters a few years ago. They have ANZCVS chapters which is similar to American/European specialty colleges). Brand new! Honestly, sometimes I think they are used to take problems easier and solve things a bit superficially (I don't want to judge every vet in Australia of course. That was only my personal take on the issue, which may be totally wrong). By the way your channel is awesome! 🌷👌🏼🙏🏼
