Everyone should learn these steps. It could save a life. First learned this in Civil Air Patrol at 12 years old as a cadet. Had another course in JROTC in High School and then in US Air Force. Four life saving steps. 1. Stop the bleeding 2. Clear the airway and assure/start the breathing 3. Protect the wound 4. Prevent of treat for shock

David Webster wrote Parachute Infantry: An American paratrooper's memoir of D-Day and the fall of the Third Reich. A very good ready. Many of the stories in his book show up in this episode. Specifically the story of Luz handing out Hershey bars. The next two episodes have story lines from his book as well about billeting and pilfering of German “goods”. He and Liebgott were actually good friends and the story about him not being welcomed back is exaggerated.

The series did Cobb a little dirty. He’s the one who got hit in the plane and was ordered not to jump. From what I gathered he was a good natured Guy but was often drunk. He was also the only Man in the Company that had seen Combat before D-Day. Prior to joining the Paratroopers he’d fought in North Africa and survived his troopship being torpedoed. Also, at this point he was 30, had been in the Army for 12 years and was still a Private, something he may have resented. He was eventually Court-martialed for trying to Assault LT. Foley while drunk.

I mean there was definitely more than one report from the guys around him that he was just kind of an asshole, and I mean there's plenty of context in your own comment to lead to the notion that he was just not the best guy. You don't go 12 years in the military and stay a private for no reason, even incompetent fools can rise higher than that at some point. He may have been an okay rifleman, but literally everything else we know about him is a problem individual.

You might notice at the end of this episode, Cobb is departing the area in a Jeep with MP's. So the assault happened, just not shown on screen. You can catch a quick glimpse at @16:20.

@justsomeguy5061 I've been telling other reaction channels about Cobb for months now, and I've recently learned that him being on a troop ship that was torpedoed may have never happened. Most of the other facts are straight up though... he'd been in the army since 1934 - was with 1st Armored Division in Africa during Operation Torch - hit in the plane on D-Day before getting a chance to jump, etc. Webster also wrote that Cobb was good natured, and a good soldier. I'm definitely gonna have to learn more about that "torpedoed troop ship" story that I've believed for several months now. We'll see.

@@Chevalier1632 We know quite a bit about him - none of it indicating he was a problem individual. Webster himself wrote that Cobb was good natured, and a good soldier. We know he had been in the army since 1934, had served with the 1st Armored Division in Africa during Operation Torch, and was hit in the plane on D-Day before getting a chance to jump. We also know that he got drunk in mid-February 1945, got into a fight with Lt. Foley, and assaulted him. He was court martialed, but he didn't get discharged right away. Turns out he was still with Easy when the war ended in Europe. You're using modern standards by immediately assuming he was a shitbag because he was a private after 12 years. I do know that promotions in all services were very stagnant pre-WW2, and during the war as well for many individuals. You gotta remember that he went through the exact same training at Toccoa that all the other original Easy company guys went through. There's no way in hell that a shitbag would have made it past Sobel! Like many other embellishments in this series, I suspect they needed a loudmouth bully for the stories, and Cobb was "elected" to that role by the writers.

@@saberx08 Funny how everyone around him were promoted constantly throughout the war, the only ones staying private for the most part being replacements and people wounded for long periods of time. Including Webster who was very open about his unwillingness to be more than a private himself and simply wanted to get out of the war. Maybe I'm not the one assuming, as Webster's notes aren't the only ones out there.

Production HATED Scott Grimes’ beard. It was patchy, scraggly, and makes him look years older than the fresh faced kid from episode 1. He said “Malarkey is exhausted and miserable. The beard makes me look exhausted and miserable” The beard stayed.

Tom Hanks even enlisted his own son into the War! That's dedication. This is when Winters essentially "Dad arms" and protects his men of Easy Company in anyway he can, even by lying to command. I love the way they express so visually the soldiers experience by the appearance of their uniforms. Webster's guilt about missing Bastogne is what leads him to volunteer for the patrol and earn respect from the men again...Currahee ♠

Malarkey had the most consecutive days on the line of any man in Easy Company by the end, and it is showing in this episode. Not a spoiler, since FoxTaco has finished the series by the time he posted this.

Always enjoy your reacting to these since you have the military background. They did Webster a little dirty here for drama. He was well liked by the men - Sen as a good soldier who didn’t want to rise up the enlisted ranks despite his Harvard mind. He was badly wounded in Holland (they didn’t show how bad it was in the Crossroads epsiode) and he was sent to the UK for hospital and rehab- so he couldn’t have broken out and joined the men in Belgium from there like Popeye Wynn and Joe Toye and others did from much closer. His book is excellent and was an additional resource for the producers beyond the Ambrose book.

Sucks they made you cut out the best part. Jones: Yeah we dodged a few mortars on the way. Malarkey: Thats cool i just lost 5 of my best friends and half of Easy Co. but that was a great story though.
