If you think the Royal Guard is the senteries around the royal palace lots was lost in translation. Livgardet is a regiment, and it is not rotated. Historically it has the responsibillity to protect the king. But as time progress it also have the responsibillity to evacuate the goverment in case of war. Imagine swedens position compared to the Soviet Uniorn, that is one task that is expected to be preformed swiftly, so they are Swedens experts on urban warfare, and know how to fight in Stockholms network of tunnels, sewers subways and so on.

The song is a symbolic depiction of how the Royal Guard overcame near impossible odds throughout the 16th, 17th and 18th century. They're fighting the cossacks in music video, which was their main enemy during the early 18th century.

not cossacks, turks. This is a re enactment of the Battle of Bender when the Ottoman emperor tried to kick out Charles XII from his land by force. After this battle, small skirmish more really, Charles XII went back to sweden.
@translaterinokripperino58243 жыл бұрын
@@Kramplarv As far as I understand the cossacks were clothed like that, and why would they choose that battle as a "smbolic re enactment" when that was quite a minuscule "detour" battle in the grand scheme of things. I'd figure that them fighting "the enemy #1" would make more sense in a symbolic matter. But I would bow down to greater knowledge.
@oLawlieto3 жыл бұрын
@@translaterinokripperino5824 The cossacks wear a very distinct fleece hat, and the ones in the video doesn't. Meaning it isn't the cossacks. They look more like the Tatars (Old Turks) than anything.
@Kramplarv3 жыл бұрын
@@translaterinokripperino5824 There were no cossacks at the skirmish of Bender :) the cossacks and the ottoman empire didn't really like each other. The men in the video are either janissaries or regular ottoman troops. :) the skirmish of bender, in swedish history, is not a miniscule event. It is kind of the swedish Thermopylae. It cemented the image of the warrior king Karl and his brave men. Also, it was fought against overwhelming forces and the royal guard was there and did their job. so it was a big event for sweden and there are a lot fo stuff which entered the swedish culture because of Karl XII travels to turkey. Meatballs for example, and the word kalabalik (which means chaos). and last, cossacks in general were more inclined to ally with Karl XII since he fought against their overlords. :)

"För Sverige i tiden" Translated in to "For Sweden with the times" which is the current kings motto. Each King has their own. Coming to power in the 70s it fairly represents the national mood. His predecessor Gustav VI Adolf had "Duty above all" Gustav V "With the people for the fatherland" Oscar II "For the brother nations well being"

The fighting depicted here is the Skirmish at Bender (1713), where Karl XII overstayed his welcome in Ottoman Moldova and was a generally shitty houseguest, forcing the Ottomans to fight a losing war against Russia after he got his army rekt at Poltava (marched into Russia during Winter, 1709). Several hundred Ottomans attempted to storm the estate the king was staying at, and the king sniped at them from his bedroom window, while he and 40 of his Royal Guard held them off for 7 hours. The Ottomans then employed artillery (unsuccessfully) and fire arrows to dislodge the Swedes. Only after the roof caught fire did the situation change. The king tripped over his spurs leaving the burning building, and he was swarmed and subdued, placed under house arrest for the better part of a year.

Crushing blow at Narva dealt is a reference to the greatest victory in swedish history November 30th 1700. 10500 swedish soldier faced of against between 40-50000 russian soldiers(some give the Russian army at 80 000 but that`s probably propaganda and history is written by the victors so to me it`s not realistic). The swedish contingent had also conducted a forced march through grueling conditions and Tsar Peter did not believe it possible to attack after such a march and left for Russia. Charles XII waited until weather conditions were favorable the snow was blowing into the Russian lines concealing the advance of the Swedes this greatly favored the swedish battle tactics. Carolean soldiers were trained to march into fire without returning fire! At 40-50 meters two ranks would open fire at the Russian lines and then change position with other ranks with drawn swords. Then they advanced to within 30-20 meters and the next two ranks opened fire and then they charged into melee combat since Caroleans were trained in close combat. I highly recommend you watch Sabaton history channel Caroleans prayer and Killing ground it will provide a far better description. The battle result of Narva was Swedish casualties around 2000 of which around 700 died. Russian losses 9-13000 dead and 15-20000 captured. It is an all time greatest victory against all odds in history. However, Charles XII also made an strategic error after the battle he allowed the captured troops to march back to Russia. He also did not think highly of the Russian ability to fight (does that not sound familiar throughout history!) So he did not press the advantage he had gained he saw Poland-Lithuania and Saxony as the greater threat so Tsar Peter was allowed to rebuild the Russian army and that would be the undoing of the Swedish empire.

I think you have been mislead a bit by some of your viewers. Livgardet (The life Guards) is not the same as Högvakten (The royal guard). This song is about the Life guards (Livgardet) but translating it to the Royal Guard is actually incorrect. Livgardet is a infantr/cavalry regiment and the a Royal Guard (Högvakten) is a 60 man strong duty performed by different regiments on a 5-7 days rotation. Livgardet does most of the days on a year in Högvakten while other regiments take turn having the duty once or twice a year.

@@v3tReacts I guess they chose to translate Livgardet to The Royal Guard to simplify, so that it will not be to confusing , as a lifeguard in English is someone running around in their speedos in Baywatch.
