Great reaction guys...this is one of my favorites from the new album. This is a deep one and its about life. All of us are just stardust ,but the miracle of life gives us some years or decades to be alive...make them matter 😉 and when we are alive ,we all are precious and rare..but after our decades in the sun, our life will be over and we will return to our primal form as stardust and join the endless cycle of life and death...like all the billions before us and all the billions to come...endlessness....and the thief is time.

The song I believe is of the perspective of Time. Time, the Thief we feel takes all things beautiful from us in our lives as we live, love, grow old, die and disappear back into the dust from whence we came. We are that rare spark, life, Dust with a Meaning. Short lived as we are, we share our existence with Time, which flows ever onward, as it always has. This life of ours, it is short, and it must end.. It is a fact of our existence. But cherish that time we share with this universe, for what little time we are given is a gift, a gift which shall inevitably cease to be, while time continues on, silent, unseen, unheard.... This may not be their best song on the new album, but it is my personal favorite. "Tip the reaper to ensure the blade is sharp" is my wallpaper across all my devices. As with all of Tuomas's songs, you can interpret the lyrics just about any way you want. To me, this song is about death; about the peace, the silence, the infinite state of Endlessness that comes after a long full loud busy crazy ass life. It's almost a deathly lullaby for the living. Find dust just like you that is precious and rare, someone out there in the void who's just waiting to meet you and share the Thief...Time...with. Then don't do any long drawn out undignified clawing to stay when the Thief comes with the Reaper in tow; be on good terms with them both so that you have a sweet ending rather than be violently ripped away.

The thief is Time, and the song is about how "he" stays with us along all of our life, even if we despise "him" and think of him so badly. And Time is saying that it will be there at the end of our mortal lives, to lead us on on a journey without end. "Tip the Reaper to ensure the blade is sharp" i think is clearly a sort of prayer for a quick, painless death when the time comes, so the travel can continue. Personally, i really love this vision, it is soothing in its unavoidable nature.

Cool, starting the new album with my favorite song.😊 But since you kept saying "she" after the first chorus and "Marko's verse" later I wonder if you didn't realize that Marko sang both - verses and the chorus (except of the one part at the end with the unborn child etc. of course where Floor took over) - or if the "she" just was a slip of the tongue. All of the new songs are going to be MIND BLOWING live. This studio material are so well written and prepared for the big scenes. If you compare their earlier studio albums with the live results - what a change. Nightwish is a genuine live band, and with this one, Floor, Marco and Troy will move mountains with their combined voices. The first person is The Thief himself, thus the one who speaks/sings (“I am the one you call The Thief”). If death is The Thief then why is the text referring to the reaper in third person (“Tip the reaper to ensure, the blade is sharp, as soon we'll go.") and to himself and the ‘deceased’ as "we 'll go". Assuming that death and The Reaper are the same person. Am I wrong?

Sometimes a random nebula is just a random nebula. The emblem is a combination of two cuneiform signs, one stands for "human", and one for "nature", since the name of the new album is Human. :||. Nature. I think the song is about death. You're not going anywhere, but you can help to be the beginning of something else. Your atoms will be recycled to be part of something or someone else (meaningful dust), and you can leave something of yourself in the world too, an influence on others, a memory, a work of art (look up their song Harvest from the new album with Troy singing, it goes into the same direction).
