Fun story, my dad went AWOL back during Vietnam. He was mad they put him in infantry when he was promised avionics. He was caught after maybe a month or two or something, and he spent 30 days in the stockade is i think what they called it idk if they still call it the same thing. Someone told him to not eat or drink and they will discharge him. He went 2 weeks without eating anything and only drank a cup of water a day. They begged and begged him to eat, but my dad lost all trust in the military and only wanted out. They ended up giving him a less than honorable discharge. My unlcle was also a marine during Vietnam. He told me some scary stories just about training. Multiple people died just during boot camp alone.

7:04 Fun fact you can not join the french military directly if you're not a french citizen. However you can try to join the foreign Legion/ la legion étrangère, I say try because it's very hard to finish the selection process. After that you're granted with french citizenship and a new name if you want, you can literally be a new person.

I’m used to getting so much shit for being an Air Force Vet but I know it’s all in good fun. This gave me so much military serotonin! From one brother to another thank you so much! You’re awesome and being a vet definitely makes you my favorite one of the boys. Videos like this remind me that no matter how wholesome we try to be as veterans we still have that same fucked up sense of humor as all our other brothers and sisters in arms. Speaking of D&D during basic five of us ran a short campaign and instead of dice we ha small piles with scraps of paper with numbers for dice. Nearly got caught but had a blast.

My great grandpa was a merchant Marine in World War 2 and oh boy did he have a lot of stories to tell about his time. Though I don’t really remember them since I was really young when he told them and he was developing dementia so he himself couldn’t remember exact details. My mom has an old newspaper clipping of him in an old newspaper honoring him, got front cover. He passed in 2018 right as the fireworks went off (He passed July 3rd, 2018) so whenever there’s fireworks I always think of it as his way of saying hi and looking down on us. He was also a hardcore farmer too.

One of my favorite stories is my grandma's father and his brother were in WWI and one day they got so hungry they decided to basically just leave and go AWOL sort of and they ended up finding a cow in someone's field and sat there for hours drinking milk right from the cow. But my grandpa was in the Navy for 32 years and I heard so many stories from him, there's even books, articles, videos, and whatnot about him. Narrator, I've got a fun little story... Me and my JROTC class went to Parris Island for a week, and we had a DI named Sergeant Cologne. While Sgt is showing us how to make the racks we'll be sleeping in for the week, one cadet thinks it would be smart to speak up and say, "Why can't we just make it as we do at home?" Guess where that went. Our JROTC instructor, SgtMaj Logan, winces, and Sergeant Cologne gets up in this cadet's face, screaming and all that shit, and once he's done, we all are told to do pushups until we can't push ourselves up anymore, then we're told to run until someone throws up. It was a sucky week from then on... I bet you can imagine... This was 6 months ago btw! Have a good day!

Funniest army story I've ever heard is from my dad. He's at the commissary and sees a general shopping and he, being smart ass Sgt. Kelley, says "that's not something you see every day". "Whats that Sgt?" "a general pushing his own cart." He says "you're exactly right Sgt." and hands dad his cart to push around until he was done 😂. But from that point on whenever he'd see dad they'd bs for a bit or for inspection he'd tell the Captain "Sgt Kelley will show me around". Everyone would ask "how do you know him?!" "Don't worry about it" lol

Personally, I only went as far as the Navy recruitment office because my mom drove me there without telling me. My family had multiple military veterans, yet I didn't have that blood in me. My dad, despite once been an Airforce mechanic, had the worst time fixing his work vehicles. He'd always have something to curse about, and I would always be left dumbfounded. It doesn't help that he's also a diy kind of guy. He only asks for help if he needs me to hold something.

My stepdad was a lead bb stacker stationed in Okinawa during Nam. He has a lot of stories of his time there. One of my favorites is how he had a CO, this full bird flyboy named Hogan. In appreciation of Hogan's love of the boys that made sure his munitions were full (meaning the free beer Hogan regularly gave out and how lenient Hogan was with thing like uniforms, pets, parties, and the boys spending their off duty time with the local "working girls"), every single vehicle they got their hands on received a "non standard paint job" including silvered rims and bumpers and the words "Hogan's Heroes". Hogan, unsurprisingly, absolutely loved that his boys honored him in this fashion.

I have two funny stories from my stepdads time in marine basic. First on his second time dropping from a plane he thought it would be a good idea to pull his chute late (about 100 feet off the ground I think) which broke his right ankle, and he still can’t move that ankle very well to this day. The second he got drunk, and decided to sign out a humvee. That thing got lost to the swamps, and I am pretty sure it is still a fish jungle gym to this day.

The stick is a riot baton, the M4 is a Canadian variant of the traditional Colt M4 and the bag is filled with extra ammo, medical supplies, rations, and water. The bag you see hanging of the front of her vest most likely has her helmet in it.
