Scott had to train himself to detach emotionally in combat so that he could focus on fulfilling his mission without worrying about his family and whether or not he would see them again. When he returned home, he discovered that reconnecting with his family wasn't as easy as he thought it would be. Hear how he got help from VA to get his life back. See more stories at MakeTheConnection.net/events/t...

I am also a veteran " Hotshot " who for 12 years ( 74-86 ) , i fought wildfires all over the US while on a highly trained "20 man firefighting crew called Hotshots. In 76 we watched while 4 members of our crew was caught in a " blowup " and were burned alive. A video my eyes have seen but my mind wont let me forget . I was diagnosed with PTSD as were several others who watched it and were mesmerized and in shock. I kept going for several more years before my body had enough. FF to 07 and the baseball bat . I have been diagnosed once again with PTSD , depression , anxiety , and now she's me 13 years later my TBI has come back to haunt me. I have for years claimed to be a veteran of survival and i will survive this as well.

I am a Vietnam War Vet and Scott's story is the same as mine. I lived like that for over 30 years until things got to the point that I was ready to end my own life. Fortunately, someone walked in on me (I was at work) before I could drink the bottle of poison and that was the beginning of my life changing story. This happened 16 years ago and I am now in the VA mental health care system, I go to war trauma group sessions every week, I see the psychologist and the psychiatrist on a regular basis and my life is the better for it. PTSD will never go away, at least now I know what I'm dealing with and I have tremendous support from my wife, son and his family. Taking that first step and asking for help was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but I'm sure glad that I did it. All the best to you Scott, I will say prayers for you.

I thank God for this that I am able to hear all the stories and read everyone's comments. It helps me to figure what and how I could help out with returning soldiers who may have PTSD. I wish there is a VA or Vet center on the island. Watching these helps a whole. Thank you and my prayers for all of you courageous men and women!✌🙏

My experience isnt service related its an assault from a guy with a baseball bat however your symptoms are the same as mine. I text my kids when im mad over nothing and verbally abuse them to the point they no longer talk to me. I feel like i am standing and watching this all happen , knowing its wrong and not me but i cant stop it until so much hurt has already been done. Tuesday i go in for my initial help. Good luck with your self.

Thanks man. I know about going back in after September 11th. We did our job of taking out "bad guys". That's what we do. Thanks again.

We did our jobs, and we came Home..Home why is it so hard? I've been out a long time, I was dealing with everything, then I went to prison for something I didn't do for 14 years flat for ironically, "something that happened to me as a kid. I have nightmares about my 16 years as a Ranger, and being abused as a child. I'm too embarrassed to admit any of it. But it's starting to ware me down, I don't know where turn, my nightmares switch back and forth between the abuse, and the things I did in the teams.

Just thank you for sharing this and know it still helps even today and again thank you for explaining my own snap lol

Jeffrey, Have you ever been in the military? Ever been in a combat situation? Ever had your life threatened by hazing in the military? Ever had a situation to where you relive it over and over again, because your subconscious will not let it go? Ever had recurring nightmares of bad experiences in the military, or being shot at? Ever seen your buddies in your unit get killed in war time in a brutal, undignified matter? How dare you say that "PTSD is a great excuse to not want to...."PTSD is real.

Have YOU been to WAR JEFFREY? Have you seen your best friend get his head blown off while you were sitting right next to him? Like, you just hear this LOUD BOOM, and when the smoke clears you just look over to check on your buddy and his head was JUST GONE?? Did you survive a mortar attack in your sleeping quarters where 3 soldiers slept, but only two made it out alive? Have you ever come home from war and go into your bedroom, and painted it BLACK, and stay there for two years? Did you come home from war and find yourself constantly, when not safe inside your bedroom walls, position yourself behind your couch, and up against a wall in a sleeping bag, reliving guard duty or patrolling? Have you ever been to war and had to GUT innocent women and children?? Have you ever been to war, and because of it lost your wife and child due to what would eventually become known as PTSD? Did YOU come home from war, only to be admitted to a Neuropsychiatric ward and given that Goddamned FRAUDULENT AS HELL Personality Disorder...SCREWING YOU out of your rightfully earned and much needed CARE, UPON RETURN HOME FROM WAR?? But if you dwell on shit its going to effect you. I wouldnt let a person thats to cowardly to enlist in the first place write a mental health evaluation on me.
