When my cat was diagnosed with idiopathic hypercalcemia the vet gave us a prescription urinary food. I had been feeding my cat a half wet half dry diet. But the dry food was a better brand with decent ingredients for a dry food. But the prescription food the vet gave us was made out of corn and soy and wheat. It's like junk food. I fed my cat one bag of it and her fur got dry, rough and scruffy. It is not an indication of health for an animals fur quality to decline. I stopped the prescription junk food diet, and just found other wet foods with better quality ingredients and lower mineral content, and I add chia seeds to her food now.

Ugh! This is so good. Thank you for sharing!! I have 3 kitties, one with urinary tract issues - our vet (who is a cat-only vet, 30+ years of experience), consistently prescribes prescription diets for her. My partner and I have tried EVERYTHING because we know the prescription diet is full of BS (seriously… 4 years of research/trial and error, we can’t even begin to calculate the $$$ spent 😂). Unfortunately, the only thing that calms her UT issues is the prescription diet. Our other two cats and puppy eat raw/fresh food… it pains us to think how the prescription diet may be negatively effecting our girl, but we are at a loss!!

Hi new subscriber from Queensland Australia I'm watching the replay I have a question what is the best diet for my 4 year old chihahua cross is grain free bad for him as IV been told by my vet here

Is it fair to say that when feeding a fresh/raw/freeze-dried diet that has a vitamin mix added, that it is still better than the kibble that has the vitamin mix added? Simply due to the less processed food? Or are all vitamin mixes less desirable regardless of the processing method of the food?

More vets need to be aware of FIP in cats. It's almost always fatal if not treated with black market medicine. They don't catch it enough and my baby was failed. I say this because you could feed your animal the perfect diet and if you aren't aware of certain viruses and how to prevent them, then diet doesn't matter in the end. 😥

Is it possible to get an online consultation with any of these doctors? The vet here told me that i need to amputate one of my dogs fingers and i cant shake the feeling that there could be a different solution out there for his case. Any info will help alot🙏🏼

best to find another vet. Sometimes one vet gives us advice that is irreversible damage to our pet.

I wish I could feed my pups 100% raw. I always try to do the best for my pets. I've mixed my own rat food because most rat foods are terribly formulated. I've found the best quality chinchilla pellet I can and give them just enough so they get the goodness out of them while still encouraging them to eat their fresh hay and readigrass. My fish and aquatic frogs eat small pellets made largely of black soldier fly larvae rather than cereals and fish meal like most flakes that cause bloat. But I wish I could afford to do more for my dogs. One day, I know I'll be able to. Hopefully, it will be a fully raw diet. But right now, they're on a high quality dry food, hydrated with water or bone broth, topped with salmon oil, seaweed, and probiotics. They get "crunchys" almost every day, too, which are either chicken feet, necks, dry fish cubes, sprats, or other larger natural chews like lungs, spleens, etc. Also, veggies occasionally, but I'm forgetful with that. So they aren't just eating a cereal filled nutrient deficient mess of a "diet," I guess. But I do feel guilty every time they eat :(. One day, though. One day, I'll get them on a raw and freeze-dried diet.

You're doing so amazing. Please don't think that it's "raw or nothing", your dogs are so so lucky to have you!

@thebkpets that's so lovely, than you. I know I'm hard on myself, I just love my dogs so much ❤️. They give me their whole life, so it's only fair for me to give them the very best I can in return.

Hello…I just wanted you to clarify something for me. I Googled the top leading veterinarians and the most influential veterinarians. None of these veterinarians’ names came up. Did you mean leading veterinarians here on KZbin?
@Firestarter0782 ай бұрын
I feel like the guy speaking about feeding a dog a vegan or vegetarian diet because he understands what the owner wants is coddling selfish humans! Because how do you claim to love something or someone but based on your wants or even needs for yourself you force that thing to, in this case eat what you eat because you want it to? Even if you doing so is not best for that things or person's health and therefore well-being? To me that is selfish and very self-serving! Dog and cats need meat to deny them a proper diet simply because you have chosen a different diet for yourself wrong!!! We have become a society of people who agree to thing to not have to tell others they are wrong! I had a friend who belonged to a church that encouraged their members to live a vegetarian or vegan life. Which she did happily but here husband had a number of illnesses that did not allow for a meatless diet. He looked good on the outside but his bloodwork and others tests were showing a problem so she began to cook meat for him again! At which time his; body began to heal to were it was before he tried to go vegetarian! We don't even have the means to test our pets on the level it would require to truly understand what a vegetarian or vegan diet may be doing to them. But we know that all the wild dogs and wolves and other canidae diets consist of mostly meat protein and that although pet dogs can eat a bit more vegetable and carbohydrates than their wild counterparts that there are things that we should not be feeding them like peas, chickpeas, beans, legumes, corn (especially GMO corn), wheat, barley, rye because either they cannot digest the lipids in the peas, beans, chickpeas lentils, legumes or because a large number of dogs have shown allergic reactions to them! We also should know that there are by-products produced when this food are eaten that cause physical and mental reactions that they cannot diagnose with any certainty at this point! Just as they have discovered both mental and physical illnesses related to the way veterinarians are taught to spay and neuter pets in America! True love has no place for selfishness or a self-serving attitude! True love is in going to do what's best for you because it's what's best for you! So my final point is.... you wouldn't feed your pet shark a diet of seaweed only so don't do it to any other carnivorous or omnivorous pet either!!! Imagine if someone forced you to meat every day eventhough it was making you slow sick inside!
@beed592312 күн бұрын
My pack gets wild salmon oil every day. Dogs are carnivores by instinct. And heredity. Stop it!! Get a rabbit, a chicken or some other pet that doesn't eat meat!!!!
