"My epileptic dog didn't have any seizures anymore, so I stopped the anti-seizure medication. Now the seizures are back!!" - Please don't fiddle with your pet's medication without consulting the vet first. "I don't believe in modern medical science so instead of all advice I will treat my sick pet with good vibes and essential oils" - You have all the right to believe or not believe in something, but leave your pet out of your personal ideologies. Not providing your pet adequate healthcare IS abuse.

Something I want to put on here, for people who've had pets growing up or have pets now and just learned that they've messed up in their care: This doesn't mean you're an awful person. It just means you were misinformed. Now you have fresh information to help yourself be a better pet parent in the future, so don't despair, just do better in the future.

Not everyone treats their children well either, and Im sure all these mistakes you mentioned are actually done by some parents to their child. Its not neccesarily a good measure. Also treating a different species like dogs, like a human child may be its own mistake.

Don’t treat your pets like children. They are not children, they are not human. They deserve respect as all living beings do, but their instincts and needs are totally different to our own. A child learns from adults how to be human, but is a communication barrier to interacting with other species that you will only overcome when you take the time to learn their ways.

If you do have a pet then recognise they have personalities. You can get the same breed of cat as someone else and it behaves completely different. This is one thing that can surprise people. Also they DEPEND on you. They don't realise you're working to earn money to pay for their food, they just know that if you don't feed them, they don't eat.

I've self diagnosed and treated my pets more than a few times. Mostly because I live in a rural area and the local vet is horrible. He prefers large animals, Horses, cows, ect. My kid and her friends found a kitten who was a walking skeleton. I called the vet and he told me to bring the kitten in and he'd put him down. Instead I fed him, bought shots and worming meds from IFA, and when I finally could, I drove 2 hours to a vet who cares. Toby is now 9. Another cat, who developed extreme diarrhea and would scream when I touched his stomach, the Vet, once again suggested putting him down, without being willing to do an examination. I researched his symptoms and tentatively diagnosed him with IBS. I searched up possible treatments . After trial and error, I came up with a homemade food that he loves and has him back to his playful, and loving self. Ducky, who's 13 now, still has issues but that's only after he eats the dogs food. My fur babies make my life better so I do everything I can to make their lives long, healthy , and comfortable

Along a similar line, do not ever take injured wildlife to the vet. They just leave it in a stuffy box until a vet has time, and then more often than not, put it down if it hasnt already died from dehydration. Take it to a wildlife rehabber, always. My dad had horrible rural vet, very similar to yours, large or production animals were his game and dad had dogs and cats. This doc botched one rottie’s last needle, poor dog basically exited writhing/seizing on the table, it took nearly 10 minutes that felt like 10 hours. He probably miscalculated the sedatives or forgot to give them completely, those are my professional guesses. Just hearing the story gave my husband some sort of fear of vets, dad is scarred for life, he still has dreams about this mess. Doc claimed it wasnt that bad, “that happens sometimes”. No, no it really shouldnt! He lit up dad’s other rottie on fnucking fire before (attempted) surgery! He used isopropyl instead of betadine for cleaning the area and lit it with cauterizer. Hind quarter went woosh, flames were knee-high. Like wtf dude! Dog survived with minor burns, surgery had to be postponed. Dad wasnt happy about going back, but he had to. Doc claimed it wasnt supposed to happen, but yet again, wasnt that bad. I sure dont want to see his version of bad. He was well known for being eccentric, I worked as a vet tech in a big city half a country away and my vet interned under this cooky vet. Small country, small circles, so being weird, difficult, uppity or jerky gets you noticed. Doc D!ckhead is now retired, but dad hesitates to take in new pets, the trust is gone. Ive tried to tell dad modern vets are different, attitudes have changed, but he has apparently seen too much. Cant blame him.

Insurance is no joke. PLEASE get it. I lost my cat to a persistent chest infection last year and spent over $15000 on her care, ate up all my savings, took out a personal loan and borrowed from family just to try and get her through it. I hadn’t gotten insurance for her yet because she was only 4 years old. Next pet I get will have insurance the day I bring it home.
@shendisackett
@shendisackett 3 ай бұрын
I second this, also waiting for the animal to get older is a mistake as they won't necessarily insure an animal after a certain age, also anything they've been treated for before that point will be excluded. I'm in the UK and never felt I needed it before until I had a cat get very sick. Sadly there was nothing to be done, but if there had been I wouldn't have been able to afford it. So with my next cat I got a lifetime insurance plan so if she gets diagnosed with something like diabetes later in life she will be covered and I will only pay the excess once, it also means the amount they will pay out resets every year. This is better than yearly insurance where they usually put a limit per condition.

Box turtle owner here! If you're getting any type of reptile you *need* to research how long they're going to live and how big they're going to get. For example, I've had my box turtle for over 21 years now and he's maybe halfway through his average lifespan. Baby tortoises can start small enough to fit in your hand and end up growing to be as big as a small table. Which, if you're going to be renting, can make things pretty complicated. And tort lifespans are no joke, having plans for their care in your will isn't unheard of. So don't get one of these guys on a whim, ask yourself if you're really prepared for that level of commitment. I love my turtle and can't imagine my life without him. But it's not a casual commitment.

Vets and vet techs deserve so much more love and appreciation than they get.

Not a vet, so I have no medical facts. However, I am a dog bather at a pet salon so I've seen a few things. Matted fur, long nails with terribly curled dew claws, OBESITY... I was horrified. The first time I experienced a fat dog was two Cavalier King Charles dogs that I bathed. I was horrified and was ranting the entire day about how bad their weight was. I could barely pick them up, they were so fat! Literally yesterday, I bathed a terribly matted dog with terribly curled dew claws. Even my boss was upset by how bad they were. I was so happy to see the "after" photos of the dog after the groomer had shaved the dog because I knew that dog probably felt SOOOOO much better after the matted fur was gone. PLEASE properly care for your pets! It helps them live better and happier!

I concur. Were the dewclaws the breed characteristics? There are probably only a couple of breeds that do keep their dew claws, the rest of them should be surgically removed, as they have tendency to grow into skin. People try to dismiss me when I say that grooming, i.e. bathing and brushing outdoor breeds is also important for them. Matted dog is unhappy dog and so prone to skin diseases, which are difficult to get rid of, aren't they? :/ And yet: "oh, my dog is an outdoor dog, he ain't no need a bathe or grooming in half of a year!" :/ Right... I am a pet owner, and i know it's not what the post is asking, but it is a mistake i made that i regret. i have 2 dogs, currently my older one is 13 (turning 14 in november) and my youngest (her daughter) just turned 6. we used to go to a vet close to our house, we didn't find anything wrong with them (they were a couple, married) so we keept going there, until my younger dog turned 2. it was a horrible time, she wouldn't stop vomiting, we keept going to the vet to do something, to tell us what was wrong, we were desperate (i'm starting to cry writing this), the woman just kept prescriping us a medicine, i don't exactly remember what it was called, but we gave it to her. Every. Single. Time. We. Went. There. she could give her that same medicine. my poor baby wasn't getting better, and her meds and tea (she told us to make her tea every few hours regulary) was not doing anything good. so we decided to try another doctor, we found a new one and you know what he told us when he looked at her carnet? "Where did you take your dog to? do they want to kill it?" my world was shattering, aparently, the medicine that she was prescribing us was a kind of deparasite that you are supposed to give a dog ONCE a year, and on top of that, because she is a small bread (she and her mom are a combination of a pekingese and a dachshund) she was supposed to take half a pill, not even a full one .......... i was poisoning her this whole time and if we didn't seek another vet she couldn't be here today with me. the vet took care of her. and when i told him where i was taking her, my blood was boiling! Aparently only the husband went to vet school, and was kicked out of his previous job at another clinic because he didn't care about the animals, he could just take the easy way out, he could just look at an animal, couldn't see anything wrong with it, give it meds, ones that were way to expensive, and sent it on it's merry way, the animal couldn't get better and the owner could just change vets ( way smarter people) and many other things that i didn't remember due to the shock of what came next, after he was fired he started his own clinic (the one that we went to) and his wife... the one that almost killed my baby.. she used to be a seller at the farmers market and didn't have any prior knowlage about the medicine field, nothing wrong with being a farmer market seller, everything wrong with not being qualified and still practicing, but she got the job because her husband ownes the place... thats the only reason she was able to work there. Thats it. That's the only reason.... She almost killed my baby, i am thankfull that my older baby was way healthier, we only took her to the vet for yearly check-ups and shots..... And this is where I made the biggest mistake. I continue going there after we already lost a dog due because of her, but i was to naive and i thought i didn't to enough to save him and that it was not the vets fault. His name was Rex, he and his sisters were abandoned near the trash bins in the "backyard" of the apartments (a small place in between the buildings where we took our dogs out), we found him alone (it was night, his sisters were found the next day morning by me and a neighbor and she took them), and I took him in, it was "perfect" timing, unfortunately my grandpas dog died of old age just a while back and was looking for a new one (he had a small farm). After we took him in I went straight to the vet to see if anything was wrong, to get his aproximate age (he was about one month old), and etc., SHE was the one that looked at him, gave him a pill, told me he might have worms and thats it, the next day i went back with him because i could tell he wasn't doing fine... she told me to give him herbal tea every 4 hours and sent us back. ...that whole week i could have my alarm set every 4 hours, wake up, give him a syringe with warm tea, and take care of him. weekend came and we had to go to my grandparents for Cristmas traditions (i'm romanian, so if you know you know what we did with the pig) but i opted to stay home and continue taking care of him, saturday he was not doing fine, so that night i took him in bed with me, pun him on a tower and went to sleep with my hand on his tiny body... when my alarm woke me up 4 hours later he was already dead. i cried so much, it was so hard, i took care of that baby for only one week. i wish i was a learning situation, but as wrote earlier, i almost lost another poor inocent baby because of them. I wish i could have a good end to this, that i sued them or that they shut down, but no, i complained, but the only thing i could to was warn people of that place, and that it took the life of one pet, and almost took the life of another. they did lose people, but now, so many years later, they are back on track and they even build an extension to their small clinic. All i can do now is tell you that if your pet is not getting better to do something, to change the doctor, if after two or more sesions focused on the same problem doesn't to any good, this aplies for human as well, sometimes the problem just won't go away, but sometimes the person consulting you just doesn't care or is not qualified and it can get so much worse. And if you live in Romania, Dambovita, don't go to the clinic the Mateescu couple owns if you care about your pet.

The cost of owning a pet is a sad and true reality. I work at a vet, so most of my services can be billed, which is not an option we can offer clients. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have animals - I can’t afford it. People really don’t realize how much an illness/injury can cost, particularly if they get brachycephalic breeds. English and French bulldogs are often financial black holes and many many many people come in totally blind sighted by these issues that they should’ve been fully aware of before getting the dog.

as someone who has had a multitude of pet species, that second one, is insanely true. Rabbits don't eat pellets, they eat hay and fresh greens(I grew food for them, and myself), and their teeth continually grow, so give them lots of things to chew and make into bedding. My buns loved bunstruction time, and yes I said buns, they're social too and a good rule of thumb of having them is 2 or more, no less than 2! if you want a ferret, they're extremely similiar in social and food needs - means raw foods, egg, raw meat, bone. Never have less than 3 ferrets at a time, and don't bathe them, they need to keep their natural oils at a normal level, bathing them causes them to overproduce and get sick. If they roll in their own shit, yes clean them, don't continually give subsequent baths. Just like rabbits they will get their paws on things to chew and destroy, but they are predators not prey, so they might eat something they're not supposed to. Honestly, having a dog or cat is wildly easier, but holy shit, that doesn't mean you can't slack either. Just like any social animal, they need you as much as they need other friends.

He was very lethargic and I made him eat(tube fed) and he started getting up and moving and drinking water. No rescues were available at the time so that became my new job, and I was now the guy with the possum. Finding a veterinarian was impossible but he didn't have any health problems until the end of his days, he had a stroke and the only vet that would help me was in another town close by. I really loved my possum and they could see that. They even sent me a condolence card with messages from all the staff that was there, some had never seen a possum up close and such a good one at that. Also I had to learn through my old cat, my parents where not good pet owners and I had to bath out what they missed out in food and compfort/medical care of the cats they used to own. Also I agree on pets not needing to reproduce. There are enough cats and dogs out there. Your kitty or your dog might not even be healthy enough to birth good kitten or pups who will bring more joy than problems for the people who WILL care for them.

Yes, during COVID my Chinese Crested when into cardiac shock and the tech came out to the car and took her back. We weren't even able to be in the building. When I later decided to let her go I had to sit on the sidewalk and they brought her out to me. You do not want to "win" triage. If they rush you back it's usually a bad sign.

My dog just had $4,000 knee surgery. Each dog I own has an emergency fund Ive been contributing to monthly. I knew getting a large, active breed would run the risk of CCL tear. It was something I considered and prepared for. He's also very nervy and dog aggressive, My vet understands him and I completely trust them. The surgery went well and his mobility has already improved

If you have a motivated pet and you're good at training you can teach them to use buttons. Cats it seems pretty hit or miss if they care about buttons but dogs learn pretty well. There's no existential conversations with the animals, but they can tell you when something hurts. And it helps with getting them to take their medicine. Billy speaks is the best case scenario for how it can go. But kendra, the owner also works with animals at a zoo and so knows a lot about training.

I had a large dog but I also put money every month from my salary for the sole reason of vet bills. I had to once pay a 1/3 of my salary for surgery on my dog. Didn't even blink twice. I also put the money away for his departure. Had more money I needed and I could affords the payment on the spot. If you really want a pet - start putting the money away before you get one. Even a small amount of money every month will eventually lead to the bigger sum. With all the stress during your pet's sickness the peace of mind of having the money to pay for it is incredibly helpful and you can solely focus on your pet. My dog was the most patient dog ever. The vet could do anything to him and he didn't even blink. But once he got older and I saw how distressed he was at the vet - I put a vet muzzle on him. For everybody's safety. It was an ultrasound and my dog was freaking out. I trusted my dog, but a stressed dog is uncontrollable dog. Also - alpha male sh*te is still floating around even if it has been debunked years ago. :/ Learn your muzzle types! So many times I see people using vet muzzle as a standard one and the poor dog cannot pant in the scorching summer. The vet muzzle closes the muzzle and keeps it that way. You want a large, metal or plastic muzzle that allows the dog to pant. There are also ones that allow the dog to drink. Use these. Train your dog. Putting a choking collar, an electric collar or any other collar that chokes the dog is a bad choice. The skin on the throat is delicate and the dog can easily damage its trachea that will lead to worse breathing. If you really can't control your dog - consider using a head collar. Any sudden change in your pet's behaviour is a cause for an alarm. Sudden mood changes, seclusion, stopping and eating for longer than 24 hours, prolonged vomiting and diarrhoea for longer than 24 hours - see the vet. Excessive licking of one body part, even if it looks okay -see the vet. Learn your breed. Having a dachshund - do not allow him to jump on your couch. Having a brachycephalic breed (yes, I am judging you) - make sure you know how to care for them, especially in respiratory distress, before you get them to the vet. Tell your vet you want to know what you can do in emergency. Breeds that love cold climates but are raised in warm ones - take special care of them or do consider other breed. DO NOT leave your dog in the car - dogs can get heat strokes too and the sight ain't pretty (yeah, was a witness once). If there are ticks in your area - check for them after every walk. You can buy a tick puller in every pet shop, as well as tick collars and tick drops. They work fine but they do not guarantee that your dog won't get any tick. However, it reduces the amount significantly. Brush and bathe your dog at least once a month. Doggos need bathes, too.

I adopted my cat, Rufus, 15 years ago; he's a very elderly 17 now. It's tough. 15 years ago, things like arthritis medication and dental cleanings didn't exist for cats. Annual checkups/boosters cost around $50, and there wasn't much else to do. Pet insurance didn't exist, there was no need for it. That's what I thought I was getting into, that was the norm in 2009. Fast-forward to 2024: semi-annual checkups and blood panels cost around $500 a year, plus $600+ for a dental exam and cleaning. Monthly injections to manage arthritis pain are $85 a pop. That's over $2100 a year just in vet bills, and other than his arthritis, Rufus is pretty darn healthy for a gentleman of his age. No insurance company is going to write a new policy on a 17-year-old cat. I'm struggling.

To be honest, i google a lot for me and my dog. I have some saline at home and acces to desinfection/basic medical supplies because I'am a pedicure. I do a lot of home care that has been previously done by a vet. Always letting them know in an email and picuters if easy to photo. They are already overwelmed and can't take any more cliënts. Most of the time it clears up by it self. And if assistend isn't sure she consults vet and we come in. And if not sure about sickness we do ask advice. Food can assist in medication but not completely overrule. Like a bit of garlic a sheepfat and herbal shampoo in summer reduces the tastiness to ticks. Nothing gives 10 ticks a day, pipettes 1 tick a day and with the garlic/shampoo 1 every 2 weeks and a couple of times a week crawling out of the fur to get away.

The parvo shot is a very very serious thing you should get for your dog especially if your getting a dog from a kennel, it starts as a small cough but quickly becomes very deadly especially for puppies or small dogs, big dogs can die from it too but small dogs have the biggest chance of respiratory failure, My grandmother who i live with got a new dog from a kennel this year and decided to not get the shot because she didn't feel like paying the 20-50 bucks it takes to get it. My mother had a puppy. My mother and i now do not have a puppy anymore. Though im happy to say the other dog was alright after long needed treatment. Get the shot. Don't risk it. OP from story 3 means well, but coming as a reptile owner here's the following corrections: 1) Snakes in particular can be taught to eat frozen thawed rats, there are also many reptiles that are omnivores that also require greens and insectivores that require bugs. Live food is not always needed and sometimes not recommended as rats and crickets especially can cause harm to your animal through biting. 2) Not all reptiles are solitary. This speaks for itself, Ackie monitors absolutely benefit from having more than just one in the environment as they stimulate each other. 3) Certain reptiles are comfortable and or tolerate their owners. When you handle them, you are ensuring they do not get defensive around people. Don't be the person that ends up in the news because their animal bit someone because of lack of socialization. Never touching them at all and just treating it like a display pet is a waste of time, just go to a zoo at that point. 4) Reptiles, especially large snakes should NEVER be confined to their enclosure their entire life. Letting them freeroam is absolutely essential for them mentally. 5) Reptiles have complex social structures and body language, this isn't something OP mentioned and i just wanted to add this. 6) Finding a GOOD exotic vet is tough, i've heard that the community has a list of highly recommended vets (in the us). I don't know this list personally but it shouldn't be hard to find. This is also another personal addition. Greetings from the reptile world, the yucky spawns of satan everyone sees behind glass actually have personalities and are not just blank slates. If you've never owned a reptile, it's easy to just dismiss them. Rat owners know this discrimination very well when a beloved pet is overlooked as "gross" and "disease ridden" and not acknowledged as complex creatures.

I now have an elderly pug who needs two teeth pulled because they are rotting. I didn’t know I had to brush her teeth, I thought giving her greenies or dental chews was enough because she hates the toothbrush, now i know better. That doesn't make me a horrible pet mother. My brother has a cat who is fat, like really really fat. He's cute but at first glance you think immediately how bad it is. The thing is my brother has brought that cat to the very, feeds it food the very recommended along with the quantity the very told him to feed it. The cat also gets plenty of exercise and it's still quite agile when he wants to be (he's an older cat now so not the most playful anymore) The cat doesn't eat anything but it's recommended food. It's been near a decade and that cat is still fat. My brother does everything right for that cat because he loves that cat, it's just fat and nobody knows why. Like it's a normal cat housecat that weighs about 15 pounds. That cat is also now old, over 15 years old. It's been fat since about 2 years old, his weight has never slowed him down. He still jumps up with no problem onto furniture windowsills and despite his size loves trying to sneak outside (he can be pretty fast when he wants to be). When he gets outside it's comical watching my brother chase him to get him inside, you wouldn't think such a fat cat could be that fast lol. It'll be sad when that cat passes away since the entire family loves him but for right now other than his weight he's completely healthy. For anybody wondering his name is Catdog, named by my now 22 year old niece back when she was little. The point is just because a pet is overweight does not always mean the owner is negligent though if a pet died become overweight the owners should get them checked out by a vet regularly and actually listen to the vet just to be on the safe side. No idea how fat catdog would be if not fed a restricted diet.

I think its important to acknowledge that something can be aesthetically cute by societal standards that we have been trained to perceive, but also be bad and not worth said perception of cuteness. It is wrong to make a pet obese no matter how aesthetically cute our minds have been trained to see them as. Aesthetics are largely a societally ingrained concept as opposed to a solid inherent factual THING. A lot of things humans have been unconsciously taught to perceive as cute or any manner of aesthetically pleasing are harmful and unhealthy or even dangerous. Saying something isn’t cute doesn’t really work when the entire concept is subjective and kind of made up by societal standards. I think it’s more effective to say something to the effect of “is it more important for this living being you love and care for to look ‘cute’ in this way, or for it to be happy healthy and well cared for? Would you rather have a chonk that will suffer and die early for an aesthetic humans have forced upon it without any care to it’s well being, or would you rather this creature you care for to be by your side as long as possible, under the best possible conditions?” People tend to get defensive and double or triple down when they feel blamed or accused or insulted or slighted, even against their own best interests or the best interests of those they love and/or care for. I understand it can get tiring especially in a very demanding field like medicine of any kind human or otherwise to try to figure out the best way to word things to irresponsible or uncooperative or aggressive people, but it’s important to remember that even word choice can have significant impact on future outcomes for patients, be they human or pet. It’s not easy to not let ones emotions do the talking, but there are plenty of examples of cases where staying calm and collected and understanding the other party to ease them into the correct answer WORKS, while failing to do so often results in no change or things getting worse. Nobody is perfect, and it’s inevitable that nobody will get it right every time, but it’s vital to always try to do so to the best of one’s ability, imo.

Until i stopped cleaning it for her. I'll admit it was cruel, but i adopted a "not my cat, not my problem" mentality because i refused to be her live in maid (the house was a pigstie when i moved in, completely trashed, amd she did no chores or cleankng whatsoever, bad environment for cats) One cat used the litter boxes (3boxes) which were overfillimg and never cleaned 1 exclusively shat on the floor and then started urinating exclusively on the floor. She refused to clean it up, and if she had to, she's just push it around with a swiffer wetjet. Most fish that aren't a Tetra or angelfish get a LOT bigger than you may think, some oppressively so. Biggest one that baffles me is clown loaches. They sell them like 1.5 inches long and act like they need a 20-30gal tank. No, no no no they get around 10-13" long and are a schooling fish. Yes, a schooling fish that gets that big. Remember that your animals are different from each other, even if they are the same species or even the same race. I had 2 cats. Same race, same age - they were brother and sister, they obviously came from the same breeder and were both raised by me and my family. Still our boy was much more energetic and sometimes even wild while our girl was rather calm and just loved to sit on somebodies lab and be cuddled. What would have been absolutely normal behavior for one of them would have been an alraming sign for the other one. We found out about a paw injury he had due to him suddenly wanting to sit on my lab and not wanting to run around and play as usual, we also found out about an ear infection she had due to her not wanting to sit on my friends lab and instead running around on the floor in a way that looked like playing. So basically make sure to consider what is norman for YOUR pet and see the vet if it does something that in not normal for its standards instead of reffering to the internet and not react to symptoms because somebody writes that this is normal for cats, don't worry.

From a shelter worker: ALL animals have issues. The brand new kittens and your responsible breeders' dogs have issues. We will do our best to find their issues and tell you upfront. Adults and seniors actually have the advantage because you'll know their lifelong quirks. Just do your research and decide what physical and behavioral hangups you can work with. Also SPAY/NEUTER AND MICROCHIP YOUR ANIMALS. Even if you are the most vigilant and responsible owner, accidents happen. Intact animald will wander and fight to reproduce. Those two little procedures make the difference between your cat coming back injured after a month or relatively healthy after a few days.

I was crying into my cheesesteak and assured the server the food was great (It was) and even the table next to us was worried about my sudden breakdown. Then I got a text message on my phone. My dog has been scanned by animal control. He was next door at the apartment building and the silly boy walked up to the first person that waved at him so they put him on their ground level porch there and just called animal control while petting him. They brought him home. Total time he was lost was around 20 minutes. Would have been way worse if he wasn't microchipped. He's an 85lb "mixed breed" (you know what that means) so he looks way scarier than he actually is so my biggest fear is he gets out scares someone and gets killed, but thankfully the spca here does not adopt out without microchipping now so at least I don't have to worry about him being LOST lost anymore.

All of these are true but id arge that cats CAN nad do act out of spite 😒. Clean box full food, different food, new cat box, multiple visits to different vets, more treats,more toys more play, moving, and you know when she stopped peeing on the bed? When we stoped fighting in front of her 🫠. I swear she felt the stress. Every time since if weve had an argument near her she pees on the bed/clothes of whoever was yelling.

Animals are my special interest(neurodivergent) so here we go: Do research. I swear a quick Google search is worth the life of your pet. If an animal is biting, you are bothering it. You are the problem. Leave it alone. Dogs are an exception because they can bite because of rabies or poor training. Which leads to my next point… If you have a dog bred for protection, it needs proper training or else it will lash out and most likely need to be put down. Reptiles and birds live for ages, they are big commitments. Hamsters are solitary. Betta fish need at least 5 gallons. Fish bowls are terrible and inhumane. Animals are not decorations. Never impulse buy a living animal. Don’t feed your pet only pre packaged food Don’t feed your animal human food Don’t buy fabric things for mice or hamsters. Don’t buy happy huts for birds Don’t pet your Bird in its back Your hamster and your cat are not friends. Your Bird and your cat are not friends. Your cat is a predator with nasty claws and teeth that can kill your pet in one bite, if not from the broken bones or loss of blood then from infection. Obese animals are suffering Pugs are suffering There is no such thing as a mini pig or teacup pig. They are still massive I have a lot more of anyone wants to know about anything specific!
@imzadi83fanvids7
@imzadi83fanvids7 3 ай бұрын
Just to add.... All mammals can contract rabies, not just dogs. Biting can be caused by pain/fear as well as neurological problems. Most purebreds are prone to certain health problems, responsible breeders work to avoid/breed away from those problems. A responsible breeder will take back any animal they have bred at any point for any reason, if they can't/won't they should stop breeding and you shouldn't buy from them. French Bulldogs, along with Pugs and other brachycephalic (snubbed nose breeds) have breathing problems and are more prone to heat stress. While we're talking heat put your hand on the sidewalk if it's hot out, if you can't hold your hand on it for 7 seconds it's too hot for your dog to walk on. The burns can be bad. Large breed dogs often have shorter lifespans and are prone to joint problems. Teacup dogs aren't really a thing, irresponsible breeders will breed runts together which can cause health problems. You do not need a choke/prong/shock collar to train your dog. They are outdated and even in the hands of "experts" can cause dangerous side effects. Dog training is an unregulated business, the real experts who study dogs agree that using positive punishment is unnecessary and potentially dangerous. Don't buy Nylabones for your dog. They are known to crack teeth and if they chew off and swallow a large chunk it can cause a blockage. Don't use a collar on your dog if you don't have to. Even a well trained dog may be in a situation where you or it have to yank on the leash and it can cause health problems over time. Buy a well fitting harness and train your dog so it's easy/quick to put on. Train your dog to accept wearing a (preferably basket type) muzzle. Even if they're normally good for handling they may be in a situation where they are in pain or in unfamiliar hands and a muzzle is used just in case. Don't let that be the first time your dog has worn one. Use a restraint in the car, preferably one that is crash test certified. If you're going to let them stick their head out the window train them to wear goggles. Dog's have lost eyes from having something kicked up in their face. Keep your cats indoors! (Obviously this doesn't apply to working or feral cats) It's is dangerous out there for them and for the other animals they might come into contact with. The average lifespan of an outdoor cat is 2-5 years. Indoor is 12+ If you want your indoor cat to enjoy the outdoors train it to walk on a leash, build a catio, or put up cat proof fencing. No animal is hypoallergenic. It's a marketing gimmick by irresponsible breeders. Some breeds produce less allergens or shed less which can help but this varies and you spend time with the breed and in specific animal your interested in. This especially goes for "doodles" as they're just expensive mutts and can vary wildly even in the same litter.

@@imzadi83fanvids7 Oh yeah absolutely! Thank you so much for bringing these up as well! I especially agree with the indoor cat thing - I only let my cats outside if they are supervised, have their harnesses on, and have had their preventive bug meds. I have a portable catio for them as well! I also love what you brought up about the biting thing at the beginning because that's totally something to look out for! I make sure pay attention if my cats seem to bite suddenly or seemingly without reason.

I mean, my cat peed on my boyfriends pillow because his kids stayed with us and her box was in the boys room. She only did that ONCE and has since used the box (because we moved it into another room). So, I will argue they will pee on things when unhappy/stressed about a situation.

Most pet owners are terrible to their pets and they would argue for days that they weren't. If you are shouting at your dog for any reason, you are the problem. Not the dog. No, it's not okay for your dogs to bark at everything, lick anyone nearby, or chase other dogs who are on leash and their owner is telling you to back your dog off. Just because your dog 'is friendly' doesn't mean the people/animals it wants to play with are okay with it. Some dogs have trauma and your dog racing up to it off leash could set back its healing. If you don't want to pick up dog shit, don't have a dog. Yes, even on rainy days when your dog has diarrhea. No, your cat does not want to be picked up by your toddler, scared by your stupid tiktok pranks, or dressed up in stupid clothes. One liter box is not enough and if you don't like cleaning them regularly, do not have a cat. Cats are NOT dogs. Do not treat them like they are.

I've Had Several Pet Rats In My Life And What I Noticed Is That, When I Have 2 Together Rather Than 1 Alone, They Live Longer, Happier Lives. Lonely Rats Suffer From Depression And Eventually Just, Die Of The Sadness. If You Do Have Multiple Rats At One Time, Try To Have 2+ Of The Same Gender. Rats Multiply Like CRAZY. Don't Have A Male And Female Together If You Don't Want 12+ MORE Rats In A Few Months. Same Goes With Guinea Pigs. They're Social Animals And Need A Friend. Otherwise, They'll Have An Extremely Sad Life.

I've only just started hearing about pet insurance up here in Canada, and I have so many questions about it. Does a plan cover more than one animal? I have seven cats and a dog.
@imzadi83fanvids7
@imzadi83fanvids7 3 ай бұрын
Most allow you to add additional pets to a plan. What they cover varies wildly though to do your research. Most won't cover pre-existing condition. One thing to watch out for is caps. Some will put caps per incident, meaning if your dog has allergies and they've already paid out the max for the per incident cap they won't reimburse anymore for things relating to it's allergies. Some will have a lifetime cap, meaning that once they've reimbursed enough that it adds up to that amount (say $10,000 or whatever) they won't pay out anymore for that animal. Most will have a co-pay (meaning they only pay out a % of the bill) and a deductible. Which means you have to pay out a certain amount yourself before they will start paying. I had one through Healthy Paws for my late dog and was very happy with them. They had no per incident or lifetime caps which is why I went with them. I would scan the bill when I got home and submit it online. They paid out fast and I never had any problem. She was 7 years old when I got it. However when I got my cat (she was 10) it was over $80 USD (they older they are when you enroll the more expensive the premium) a month so instead I opted to just put $100 in a savings account every month for her. I also use Care Credit (don't know if they have that in Canada.) It's like credit card for medial expenses but you have a time to pay it off like 3 months, 6 months, or longer and if you pay it back before the time is up you pay zero interest. Don't get me wrong, the interest is outrageous if you get into trouble, but if you know you'll be able to pay it off in time this can give you some wiggle room in an emergency where you might need to put up a lot of money up front. Provided your vet takes it of course.

19:50 it can also traumatise the poor pet. My old cat got preggo even tho she was on cat birth control. The vet didn’t really believe it when my mom called and said I think she is pregnant and when she started having contractions they told my mom to take her in. My cat couldn’t push the babies out herself and had to get a c-section sadly it wasn’t fast enough and all her kittens died. She got sterilised and sewn back together wrongly and she was so sad for a while :( My new cat is already at sterilised and I adopted her that way. Kittens are cute but I’d rather not have to put my cat through what my old cat experienced

I'm sadly like 90% sure my cat was used for breeding due to how her stomach looked when I adopted her, and that she seems to not be used to large open spaces and being able to climb/jump. She is scared of most males and timid of humans and other animals..... I'm glad she feels comfy with me and now seems so happy.

A lot of these are very dog forward, which is normal, but cats are also a big commitment for a pet. Just because they behave differently doesn’t mean they don’t need play, breed specific care, attention. Also, chicken, while a tasty treat for cats, should be boiled without ANY seasoning until you can shred it with a fork. Spraying is not an exclusively male behavior. Female cats spray too and it can very much be prevented with proper care. De-clawing is mutilation and will result in negative health conditions as well as behavioral issues (not using the litter box for example) Male cats can be prone to urinary crystals which can build up and cause life threatening blockages. ALWAYS incorporate some form of wet food into a male cats diet. It’s important for all cats, but a diet high in moisture is a good preventative measure against development of crystals.
