There was a book, published decades ago: The Complete Herbal Handbook for The Dog, by Juliet Bairacli Levy. She went to live with gypsies and this book was amazing. I bought it at a health food store in 1971. Juliet used garlic for many reasons, but one such remedy was for deworming. You fasted the dog for 3 days, on honey and water, then made a mixture of slippery elm, chopped garlic... The slippery elm was to coat the stomach lining from the hungry worms. Our dogs pooped loads of worms after her mixture. Then we broke the fast with oatmeal soaked in water and some additional herbs. The book is now in paperback and includes cats.

Yup. It was common knowledge before the “experts” started pushing $ drugs $ and demonizing the 1,000’s of years of known natural remedies. In the 1990’s I knew an elderly old man who added a small amount of garlic to his dogs food daily to keep fleas away. Whether it worked for fleas or not I don’t know, but I do know his dog, Sandy, lived to be 17 years old which is nearly unheard of today. Oh and we didn’t vaccinate back then like today. Nobody took their dogs to the vet unless something catastrophic occurred like hit by a car or broken bone. Vets were not on every corner back then. You had to drive 15-20 minutes to get to the vet. Today there is 8-10 vet offices within a 15-20 minute drive from my house. When I googled garlic to repel fleas on dogs, here is the first thing that popped up “To conclude, the claim that garlic can prevent fleas is largely unfounded. Your best bet against these pesky parasites is vet-prescribed medication.” And there you go! $$Prescribed $$ medicine $$ is the only remedy… Sad world we have become 😢

Omg, this is amazing to learn!!! Edit to add: let the garlic sit for 10 mins after chopping it, or the allicin won't work as good! So earlier this year, my cat had a spot she chewed on her back that wasn't healing and I had used witch hazel & coconut oil to no avail. I was impressed with the garlic oil I made for an earache & then used again on an infected finger, so I grabbed it to put on my cat's back hoping it would help. I happened to be chatting with a friend at the time and she said don't you know garlic is toxic to cats? So of course I googled it & saw that it said it was "very toxic" and immediately in a panic and frenzy, started bathing my cat to get it off of her...I worried all night over that! So that poor baby didn't need all that drama after all...and neither did I. Smh, I'm so sick of the internet lies sponsored by big pharma. And I also want to give you a shoutout for the anti-itch vid...I'm using the coconut oil, aloe & licorice drops mix you recommended & it is working like a charm!!! THANK YOU, DR. JONES. I have used it for all my giant breed dogs for over 18 years of having dogs and they remained healthy, flea and tick free. They never became anemic . The study done in Japan was actually done by giving dogs a huge amount of cloves each day for months. No dog would ever be given that amount of garlic ever normally . Another did every test on my cat who had thyroid issue, VERY COMMON CAT ISSUE. He acted perplexed and told me to come back and they would do more tests. I had cut in my hours at work and could not return. Got really bad and cat lost weight and was panting. Went back as emergency, they refused me service telling me there were no appts for 3 days. So I called another clinic who told me to come in immediately and bring any xrays. They threw a fit that I asked for them, so I asked if they wanted to see my kitty, refused. Gave me photocopies of xrays. Other vet said that he had thyroid disease and that it was very common and wondered out loud why other vet didnt catch it. He shook his head and said the weight loss was permanent. GREEDY JERK RUINED MY CATS LIFE.

I've been feeding my dogs raw garlic for more than 35 years. I learned to homecook dog food and progressed to raw meat and bones (BARF diet) after my vet had nothing else to offer for severe skin issues except euthanizing her. That said, too much of anything is a bad idea. We lived in central Florida at the time. I give them garlic year round to keep them flea free. Only one time in the last 35 years were the fleas (in the midwest) so bad that I had to choose to use a topical treatment. I read up on that and quickly realized I didn't need to use a lot and that the product was toxic and poisonous. Hell of a trade off! One scant application and done! I keep them on garlic year round so their blood always repels repels fleas. Kudos to the doc for making this info known.

Thank you ! I always thought onions bad, garlic ok, now it's confirmed. Amazon has this brand of aged garlic and it's not expensive. I put it on my shopping list.😊 For me and my dog!

Growing up we always had at least 4 very active dogs. We lived on 11 acres and they ran around all day long. We didn’t feed them can food often. In fact they didn’t like can food much and often gave them gas. You should have seen the disappointment on their faces when they saw it but they ate it anyway but not as fast as leftovers. They ate leftover meat, gravy, juices from dinner, vegetables, etc. mixed with dry food. Everything had garlic and onions in it. It never sickened them. It did deter ticks, fleas and mosquitoes that we had plenty of. We did worm them twice a year, but I believe it also deterred tapeworms. They got can food if we had things like kielbasa, sauerkraut, hot dogs or acidic foods. What did sicken them were flea collars. I never heard of garlic, onions, chocolate (we didn’t feed them candy anyway) being bad for dogs until about 10 years ago. We raised 11 dogs over my lifetime and they were fine with onions and garlic. They all died of old age.

My husband always made homemade dog food and he always put garlic in the dog food to keep them from getting worms. We never had any problems. Our dogs didn't get worms. In the olden days, our dogs hardly ever got sick.

Either this is a huge coincidence or the doc saw my suggestion to debunk common things “they” say are bad for our dogs that really are actually healthy and harmless when given appropriately! Garlic seems like a good idea to me based on all the evidence you’ve provided. Would love to hear about other such food/supplements/oils/etc. It would be amazing if you could have a list of these good items on your site that people can refer to along with links to any videos you make about them. Thanks!

I was growing garlic in a container on my porch. It was still pretty small. My puppy ate all of the leaves one day. The next day she pulled it out in of the ground. She likes to eat on my garden experiments.

We have garlic chives growing in yard in patches. Our outside cat loves to lay on it all the time. Have been worried about this but decided he is smarter than us so have not pulled out. He also loves sleeping during day under our large rosemary bush. More observations and less rumors may help animals outside. Just a thought. Thank you for the information.

Yes, I second that request. My cat Rocky used to eat small portions of mashed up avocado regularly, when I was preparing it for myself. He would ask me for it and enjoyed it with no side effects noted. When I saw that avocado was on the list of no-nos, I stopped giving it to him, but I've always 🤔 wondered... Rocky lived to a ripe old age 😺

I am happy to hear this news, also sad to hear it a little too late for one of my dogs. Lilith was 9 years old and had developed a bacterial infection in her bladder. She showed no symptoms of illness until it had gotten so bad that her back legs suddenly paralyzed & she was losing control of her bladder. 😢We rushed her to the veterinarian immediately, but after examining her thoroughly, he recommended we put her to sleep. It was such heartbreaking news. I felt as if I were pulling the life support from one of my children.😢😢😢 Thank you, doctor, for sharing all of your knowledge with us. I pray by using your wisdoms that I won't have to go through this again until my remaining 3 furbabies are ready to go from very old age.❤🙏🏼🫶🏻

Thank you, thank you, thank you. We always used garlic so I was very surprised with the number of people more recently who (quite aggressively) told me not to. It is good for nursing bitches because the pups get enough through her milk to prevent worms. I read of a lady who fed her dogs garlic following the Chernobyl radioactive fallout and she managed to save her dogs.
