Worldwide viewers, this Vet is naturopathic in his approach and is excellent. Please subscribe He is from British Columbia in Canada, that leans more naturopathic. Govt needs to support these University trained vets who also learn good less intrusive methods, when appropriate.

From what I understand from my holistic vet is that if you're dog's glands are expressed too frequently they lose muscle tone of the glands and they can't express them naturally when pooping and will rely on manual expression frequently. That's why it's recommended for those who have their dogs groomed to not allow your groomer to ever express. A groomer may or may not do it the right way anyway. It should not be done unless your dog exhibits symptoms as Dr. Jones explained.

Took my girl to the vet for scooting and most terrible smell and often having to wash her bum , her glands are fine vet said , a total of 3 times !! But they did diagnose phantom pregnancy so to hospital she went as she had uterine infection!! Operation done !! But back to the vet she was shaking !! Problem with her spine !! Gabapentin prescribed , seizure after seizure after seizure, ataxia , no wee or poo could not stand up !! Back to hospital, after 3 rd day they said expect the worse , argument with vet at hospital they decided to try one last thing , cocktail of drugs , ( forgot to mention during the seizures she lost her sight ) The drugs got her back on her feet but she was crazy , 9 months of tlc she had regained some sight starting going for small walks and enjoying them , occasionally incontinent, we were so happy we actually thought we were getting our baby girl back !! Them wham bam , scooting, slamming her bum to the floor , went off her food , vet said ulcer , managed to get her to eat soufflé dog food , still scooting infact skiing at times !! 4 weeks later she died !! Her insides were a mess they told us , so the year before when we insisted she had a problem with her bum and told no no no was it the cancer starting , we will never know !! 😢 when she was in hospital with the Gabapentin induced seizures ( never had a seizure prior this med ) she had every test done every scan done !! 🤔 they found nothing !! Only wanted to repeat one scan as they were not sure if they had found something so scan repeated , all ok they said , well was it 🤔 we will never know , many things we don’t know , and opinion on vets have sure changed !! So Thankyou for what you do here it’s really appreciated 👌❤️

@@sophiesnuffy2563 Bless your heart with the sanctuary ❤️ I also would of loved one if life had given me this opportunity 100% My wife is retired RGN and yes there is much more to Sadies story I can tell you !! But would of been an essay !! And not to mention her sister who died 14 months prior ( wrong diagnosis) but unfortunately then we were unaware of such incompetence practice as our girls had had a good 13 & 14 years of a healthy life with no issues so we were never at the vets for years ( always looked into alternative therapy tbh ) esp regarding flea & tick treatment And for the last 6 years of their life’s their food was home cooked with appropriate supplements, But yes we have come to the conclusion it is now another money making racquet unfortunately and where I live I eventually managed to find a vet I was ok with and did help us to get Sadie to eat a little towards her end of life , and I can tell you we saw many !! And each with different diagnosis!! Even took her to the hospital they said parasites !! Gave her this & that without our permission!! And she has never taken well to the tick meds !! Furious as we knew she did not have parasites!! Full blood analysis and guess what ? No parasites!! After they treat her for this with a shot of antibiotics & pain killers !! Really lost faith after that !! They were given opportunities to find the correct diagnosis for both girls several different vets , and they never !! We think Sadie could not of been saved at the end of the day but with Bell ( won’t go into her story ) she could of if they had xrayed her initially after falling off the sofa !! Instead of giving antibiotics & pain killers It’s only been 10 weeks since we lost Sadie and emotions still raw , we took on a male 10 yr old male dog from the shelter a few weeks ago , he’s got a few problems which we are working on , he is a real sweetie and will be kept far from the vet I can tell you unless it’s absolutely necessary!! That’s what the last 2 years have taught us unfortunately Anyway you keep up the good work there ❤️ and we wish you all the best with what you do ❤️

@@sophiesnuffy2563where did u go to school? I love treating animals w/gentle methods. Even this anal expression is gentle honestly, too bad it’s invasive (I’m NOT a fan of invasive unless needed ofc) Do u use herbs and homeopathics, maybe essential oils? Or straight up meds? I assume u can’t get Rxs-unless u have a cooperative vet in the area, like midwives have had with backup drs over the last century as obstetrics moved into medical realm. I have been the go to for decades w/ppl (one time almost running a clinic out my house in an low cost apt complex) and expanding into small farm animals n pets is a natl progression lol

I'm sorry for your loss and for the terrible experience you two had. I hope you find some comfort knowing you did the very best you could at the time. Unfortunately, veterinary practice is kind of what we had in terms of human medicine 30 years ago. Having a very comprehensive experience with some of the best veterinarians in my country, my experience has been that even those who cared a lot about the animals kind of get into an emotionally detached state and ens up acting in an automatic manner; in the process, they end up making a series of misconducts and misjudgements. Just lost the most amazing companion after a really difficult surgery, that actually went fine, because the veterinarian, not having the result of the microbial culture, used the standard antibiotic instead of the more powerful and broad-spectrum one. Turned out, bacteria was resistant, and the surgery actually spread the infection across her body.

One of my dogs had a real ansl gland problem. Three different vets seemed unable to fix. I fixed it myself using common sense and the knowledge my old vet who was a minimalist and an advocate for owner treating many problems. He retired and the three vets I tried were either just dumb or trying to keep a $100 vet visit every three months going. She had sn absess they never drained COMPLETELY . They gave antibiotics but of course that absess eould fill again. As I said I had to fix it myself, it has been almost teo years with never s problem. I wish there were up and coming vets like the old country docs. But now vetrerary medicine just like human medicine wants to treat symptoms and create dependency, not cures. In the insurance business that was called trailers...like the agent's commissions on 20 year policies. Now it is paying off educational loans. I have vetted my animals gor many, many years. Now my oldest are a 16 year goat and a 16 year old Red Heeler. Many times I say a silent praise to my eonderful vet who believed in training ANYONE who cred to learn from his very excellent advice. Thanks Doc 🙏my Vizslas glands were regularly ‘popping’ , and she sleeps in my bed!!! I read somewhere adding raw Brussel sprouts to a meal. Since I started adding one raw Brussel sprout to her breakfast, it is no longer an issue! Obviously, if you have a smaller dog, maybe cut one brussell sprout in half! Given it’s the fibre, I will try the flax too!

Tula saying (yes they talk) "Dad? Again with this? My friends watch your videos!" 😅❤❤ I have a kitty that had this problem, except in kitty-way and she hated it. Of course. But, we had found a kitten and she adopted him and they groomed one another every day numerous times. And he took good care of her anal glands very well, although it grossed us out. But, sadly he was put down for last cat nap 3 weeks ago. My other kitty does not know what to do and is mourning, but in her positive, good natured way. So...we are back on anal gland watch. Lambchop and tula are good sports. And...I miss my kitty. Thanks for all the great info doctor!! ❤❤❤

I followed the instructions and did for my dog as I saw him rubbing his button last 2 days (sometime) and I found lumpy balloon on right side. He didn’t like it first, but he handle it well eventually. What a great info, save money and time on vet. Basic things we need to know about our dogs. I also did warm water, apple cider and used rosemary oil drops as I couldn’t find lavender. He is happy chappy. I will observe how it goes and take him to vet if he does it again. But I think I nailed it. Got yellow smelly liquid out in tissue paper.

Thank you SO much for this, Doctor. I have just made an appointment with my vet because I have very fat, old bag fingers and I don't feel confident to properly express my fur baby's infected scent gland. I have been using very warm disposable cloths soaked in freshly brewed camomile tea, but now that I have found your above video, I will observe your natural concoction instead. Since beginning the warm cloth treatment, Fug's gland has reduced in size and no more blood is coming out. Today, there is minimal puffiness in Fug's gland and now only tiny amounts of a far more clear fluid come out, when I gently place pressure as I gradually move the cloth upwards to express his gland. I was using the darkest honey that I could find, to help keep away bacteria but I will use your own natural remedy on his gland now that I am aware. Fug's appetite is great and he drinks plenty of water and he has not been otherwise unwell; and he is playfully running around as usual but because it has been a few days now, and despite an amazing improvement in Fug's anal gland infection, I decided to take him to the vet just to be on the safe side. We are all so grateful to you for being out thete and helping so many people and their beloved pets, Doctor, so thank you, once again, and lots of love and hugs to dear Tula.

When my Baby developed an anal gland abscess after a bout of diarrhea I started warm compresses right away. It improved but came back a bit 2 days later. Being a nurse and seeing that the abscess was making a small break in the skin, I inserted a small syringe in that opening with saline. I needed to do it two times. But the abscess healed completely with no signs afterward that it had ever been there. My first vet wanted to give an antibiotic right away. And the next vet wanted to express them himself with his big big fingers on my little 8 lb dog. Finer yes!! Exercise yes! Warm compresses yes!. Take it from there.

He said there’s really nothing you could do. It’s normal natural but what you’ve told me is great I’ll be giving her some flax she’s only between six and 7 pounds, I really appreciate all your help. Thank you so much Dr. Andrew.

the look Tula gave you @1:37 priceless :) Dr Jones Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us. It has been valuable to me and my pup age 6 :) He had both glands expressed. the most recent just before Christmas. He's still scooting?. I bought Glandex and give him a half nugget every night, It helps him a lot. He scoots when He doesn't get the glandex. Is flax seed recommended for a dog who must avoid grain. Thank You
