I had a beautiful dog who didn't have any exposure to topical flea and tick treatment until he was two years old. Perfectly healthy dog. Then the Vet put some on him without my permission when they had him in the back to draw blood. 24 hours later he had a huge seizure. I didn't connect the two until a few years later when finally it clicked that after every six month treatment he'd have a big seizure followed by smaller ones in the weeks following. By then the damage was done, his brain was damaged, he developed balance issues, he would get confused and "lost" if too far away from me or off leash in the yard. We stopped the topicals, but he was never the same. To this day I feel guilty for not putting it together sooner and protecting him better, but I trusted the Vet and pharmaceutical industry back then. Never again.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I’ve had two dogs that developed seizures and I believe it was because I had used Frontline on them. My current dog has to be on medication to control the seizures but I no longer use any of those chemical types of flea/tick or heat worm drugs.

Hello, doctor. I'm sorry to bother you, but I've just watched your video about natural flee repellents and i have a very important question to ask you. I've been using revolution plus on my kitty for about 4 months as he had flees, after that I've stopped. I'm not sure if it's connected, but in December, a couple of months after I've stopped using it, a growth developed on his elbow, close to the armpit on his left arm. I know when it was because I've seen it on pictures as i take a lot. It looked like a little pimple at the time. I've noticed it myself in late February. It looked like one of the paw beans, about 5 mm pink and round, but on his elbow. I've monitored for a while and I've noticed a growth. Then I've scheduled an appointment with the vet, but before the appointment it turned brown and started to bleed from a side. The vet tested it and proscribed animax ointment. He said it wouldn't make it smaller, but being an antibiotic it will prevent infection. When he was testing it, he made it with a needle. I was hoping it's something simple so the water or whatever is inside would just come out and it will heal. Nothing came out as I've hoped. But over the next couple of days I've noticed it getting completely flat, just an excess skin around it forming a circle. The vet says that the test came in inconclusive. May be cancer, maybe not. His recommendation is a surgery. Over time it filled again and started to grow even more. Now it's about an inch and a half and doesn't have hair on it. It's bleeding a little. It's scary to look at. He licks it too. I'm scared to do the surgery due to his age. He's 16. And putting him under can be very risky. Yesterday I've noticed a new growth near it. It's directly under his armpit on the same arm therefore close to his heart. It's different though because it has hair and kind of like like a cyst. He has some on his body, he's a little chunky. I don't know whether that's a new one I am almost certain it's an old one though that was there for years without changing, but it's worth mentioning anyway. I cook for him for years, nothing in his diet has changed. But he does have a kidney problem so he's on low protein diet - 30% of protein 70% of everything else. I don't know if it can be related to that flee medicine or kidneys, or perhaps something else. I have stopped giving him that ointment as it does absolutely nothing but disturb him because i have to put a bandage on his arm so he wouldn't lick it off. I'm leaning towards a surgery because i don't see any other options. But maybe you have some information or theories that might help? As I've mentioned previously I'm scared to do the surgery due to his age. But if we need to, we need to. I'm currently saving money for his surgery and even started a gofund me for help. A few days ago he wasn't feeling good and was hiding under the bed in the bedroom. Wasn't hiding from me though, i think he was just more comfortable in a smaller room. He sat with me on the bed and eat. He was eating a little less but still eating. When i wasn't in a room he would always go under the bed. This was going on for two days. Now his behavior is back to normal, he's active and eating normally. God willing I'll save enough money for surgery soon, but if there's any option not to do it, i would gladly take it as giving him anesthesia is very dangerous. Please let me know if you have any theories on what it might be or how to treat it. Thank you in advance

My 5 uear old pit/lab mix went from being a happy,healthy,energetic dog to having seizures and being on deaths door within 3 days of using Advantage on her. She got better,but lost the use of her back legs for the rest of her life. From that point on all she could do is lay where I put her and wait for me to carry her anywhere she needed to go. I carried that precious dog for 7 years before I finally lost her 2 years ago.......RIP RileyRooster,I miss you still SO MUCH💔 Btw.....the vet adamantly denied that it was the flea drops that caused my dog to almost die🤦‍♀️

This happened to my sweet little Mia - a black toy poodle. She was perfect and then I used that poison as advised by my vet. She immediately suffered a seizure and then progressively over the next 6 months completely lost the use of her legs and eventually her life. I've had to live with the guilt of having a perfect little dog to losing her within 7 months because I listened to a vet's advice. I would never use that poison again!!! So sorry to anyone who's loved and lost a pet. It never gets easier. I still cry over my lost pets, if I try talking about them out loud. I can't even use lotion they say is for the most sensitive skin without a reaction.its not a surprise putting poison right on the skin of an animal is bad. I tried it on my German shepherd one time. She was allergic to fleas, poor thing. Anyway the smell was shockingly horrible and strong and I never used it again. I mean, if we can smell it, imagine it with their sense of smell. But, fleas are tortuous for them, heartworm is deadly. What do you do? Who do you trust?

This is the first time I've seen someone with veterinarian experience say that catnip helps stop fleas. Since I started growing my own, we haven't had a flea problem. When I told my vet what I thought was keeping the fleas away he was a bit surprised at how well it was working. The plant is easy to grow and much cheaper than buying it. Usually I give my cats enough that they can roll in it, effectively covering their entire bodies, even when I was out for over a year, no fleas returned. Thank you.

I literally just learned this :( rescued 3 kittens Monday and have them quarantined from my other cats. Bathed them when I brought them in. And the room theyre in I put some de on the chair just in case they had fleas or ticks… I haven’t found any evidence of either aside from one tick I pulled off after the bath. But one kitten had a cough and sniffles yesterday and today. I also was using de to deworm them, that, is working as I’ve found several worms they’ve puked up or in their poop. But, the kitten that’s coughing tends to groom the other two and she rolls around in the couch. I’m sure she breathed some in from grooming and they playing :( I had no idea that could be an issue till today after looking up what could cause the issue and potential side effects of de. Be very careful applying topically and on furniture they play on.

These topical treatments don’t work anymore. Fleas have adapted to them. They used to work 20 years ago. I never got it on my skin though. Just a suggestion to those that have massive infestations: I found a kitten living in my garage that was covered in fleas. I covered her in coconut oil for 24 hours & it literally smothered all of them & the eggs never developed. You’ll obviously want to keep it in a cage to keep oil off your furniture, but I swear by it because it actually works. I bathed her afterwards with dawn & fleas never came back!

I have two cats and the ladies never had any fleas. A few years ago our neighbours cat came to visit us more frequently. He is such a sweet cat and is getting zero attention from our neighbours, so he liked being around us and the ladies. I saw him scratching a lot so I bought flea drops for our cats just to be sure. Within two weeks one of our cats lost weight within a matter of days. She was hiding, she did not respond to us, did not talk anymore (and she is a real talker) so we took her to the vet. Tests showed that her liver was working really hard and the inflammation level was really high. She got medicine and special food. I never thought about the flea drops directly. I put 1 and 2 together after a while since she never had any health issues before. I never gave them flea drops since and still never had fleas (they are 12 and 13 years old) just clean kitties and a clean house. The vet did not really believe my story when I told him when he asked if I give them flea drops and said no. Gave it once never again! He suggested a different brand. But I don't want to take any risks anymore. Once was enough. Poor sweet cat, it was horrible to see. She is back to being healthy with zero issues❤

I can tell you for a fact, simparica trio, will destroy your dog's internal organs. Because it happened to mine. Went to the vet for a full check up getting a perfect bill of clean health for my 11 year old dog. Decided to try out the new flea chew pill they sell. My happy dog went from normal to very down and sad within a couple hours. I could tell he was in pain and took him back to the vet the same day. They could find nothing wrong with him. He spent several days in the ER and died from internal organ failure. On his last day he looked at me and there was no soul behind his eyes anymore. Just an automation staring forward or following whoever around. I held him in my lap as they put him to sleep with his favorite squeaky ball as his tail slowly wagged knowing the sound he enjoyed. Don't use anti flea treatments. They are toxic for the insects and your healthy animal. I wish I could sue the company for all the harm they caused.

remember our food, water and air (and all of our internal organs) have micro plastics in them now. As plastics age they release numerous carconogenic chemicals. And they are literally in our organs. It's no wonder cancer rates are increasing rapidly and the severity is also increasing. People just keep using plastic for food, drink containers and packaging and keep throwing it. Even recycling doesn't help. We need to eliminate uneccessary plastic from our lives.

We hated giving our border collie mix the frontline treatment every month. He would try to run when he saw us taking it out of the doggie drawer and would hunch his shoulders and walk around obviously uncomfortable for a week after. But we live in a very flea infested area in the south east US. A friend told us to mix brewers yeast with coconut oil and give it to our dog every day. We didn’t believe her so we started in the fall so we would be less likely to get a lot of fleas. It’s been several years now and we have had no problems with fleas or ticks and his coat is nice and shiny ❤.

I use Neem and rose geranium oils. Put on collar and some drops on back of neck and near tail. I also use natural sprays like Wondercide. They do a great job. My dogs are 9 and 8 and no fleas. I only find ticks if I dont keep up on using the oils and sprays. I live in MN so i do this from April-October or so. I also bathe them more regularly. I stopped all the chemicals when my GSD was around 4 (he's 9). He was using the Seresto collar and had severe reactions that i didn't realize were from the collar year after year. Stay away from Seresto and chemical topicals and pills. You can manage with natural approaches.

The persistence of advantage as you explain makes a lot of sense to me now. My dogs had a horrendous flea infestation in 2000 and I used advantage. It worked and I only used it that once, not at the full dosage and not monthly as suggested as that seemed like a money grab by the manufacturer. Still have the original package with most of the vials intact. Ive had quite a few other dogs in the 24 years since and not a single one has ever had fleas. I treated my cat once a few years later. Amazing stuff but didnt know it was so persistent and possibly linked to serious health issues. doc, I don't use any pesticides on my old dog, I just give it a warm bath, shampoo it with home made shampoo (water, vinegar, olive oil, soap), and let the puppy soak for a whole 5 minutes, with a warm towel on its body. Then I rinse, use a blow drier (the heat also kills flees if any survived), and I do this every 3-4 days. We have a large backyard, which is not sprayed with any toxins, not for weeds and not for anything, and yes, there are flees. But the treatment I do works for my puppy! After blow drying, I rub my hands in a little coconut oil (extra virgin, or more olive oil, also extra virgin), and then rub the oil into my puppy's skin and hair, and so I replace the oil that the shampoo washes away. Also, every time the puppy gets a bath, so every 3-4 days, I also wash the bedding in hot soap water, and tumble dry, again, the heat takes care of everything...

Just had my cat at the vet yesterday for excessive scratching and grooming. As I knew he did not have fleas. The vet was very interested in telling me how healthy he was and sharing info about his breed but then, at the very end recommended Revolution monthly treatment And.... "Can we give Fluffly a Rabies vaccine today?" I said, no, don't think I am interested. She said well if it's an issue of economics.... I said no, our semi rural property is well fenced and they are older and stick close to the house. She then turned very aggressive and said "So you want to endanger my staff?" in front of the tech who was in the room holding my cat. I was gobsmacked and totally caught off guard. She turned on a dime and said the same thing again and I told her I would not be endangering her staff with my pets anymore. She then said, she wasn't going to 'go there' and left the room. I told the tech, the same companies that make shots for ppl, make them for animals and that I did not appreciate the hard push, especially after the last three years and what is now coming out about the c shots. I was FURIOUS. This intimidation tactic was the SAME Crap the MDs pulled on millions of ppl who have no understanding of the Agenda and Money behind the vacc issues. They are Incentivized to push them!! I did not take the vax and knew from previous research they are not tested properly and it's one big pharma racket to cull the herds. Read Many scientific and MD books on this topic before and after wooflu episode. There is nothing coming out about the C shots. Vaccines prevent multitudes of childhood deaths. The protection from those diseases depends upon nobody being able to host the disease. It is people who do get the disease who cause it to develop resistances and spread. You can say what you want, but if it were not for everyone else being vaccinated, your children would be very unsafe. Do you know how contagious measles is, and how many children it used to kill and maim? Same with polio and the others we vaccinate for. There is a lot of pseudo-science on the internet, as well as profiteering by drug companies. Vaccines existed before the profiteers came along to abuse the system that provides them, and they exist because they save lives. The reason that a hugely disproportionate number of people in the US died from COVID was because they did not get vaccinated due to falsehoods and fear mongering. The vaccines are quite effective, they do not ‘change the dna or rna’ as has been claimed. There have been a few thousand people with negative reactions, which should be expected when literally millions of people worldwide were vaccinated within a single year. These days, most significant vaccine statistics collection takes place over decades, but the COVID vaccine has not been around that long yet.

I too had the flea infestation through out my house with five cats and one dog. Even tried Orkin company 🥴. Saw an article about sweeping everyday and lightly sprinkling 20 muleteam borax on all places the animals went. After training them all for a flea comb and treat in morning, the vigilant routine worked. Just remember to dump sweeper bag after each go round. The Borax dried up the larvae, and disposing of the bag contents outside got rid of the active ones.

I gave my Husky, Bravecto, at 5 years old. This a common tick and flea pesticide reccomended by vets in South Africa. It lasts for a bout 3 months once given to your dog so you do not have to repeat montly. It is given in the form of a "chew" flavoured tablet and not put on the neck. Its also really expensive. Thinking the more expensive, well known brand, would be safe for my dog. She had her first seizure about 2 months after her first Bravecto, with elevated liver enzymes ( Typically seen when a dog has ingested something they are not supposed to). Her enzymes were not elevated enough to cause "concern", so I was told. A few days later, second seizure. She immediatly got put on seizure medication and I lost her last year, 3 years after her first seizure, due to liver failure. I was beyond angry with my vets and Bravecto. I will never ever give it to any of my dogs again. Most vets here in SA still say its safe to you and prescribe it. Once its ingested the damage is already done. There is nothing they can do once the liver starts failing.

OMG! I’ve just used this on my cat. Bought it, recommended from the vets. First time in 5 years she’s ever had fleas. And I was reluctant to use it but didn’t know there were any other options and how awful to have something crawling on you all day. We’ve just lost her wonderful loving brother from feline aids 😢. And she’s been so sad and different. Won’t come in the house except to quickly eat, then she started twitching and I found a flea on her so thought that was contributing to her unusual behaviour, apart from her grieving.. It was bad enough loosing him, if I lose her because of this , I’ll never forgive myself. I’m not having any more pets, it’s just too distressing 😢

thank you for your common sense approach to animal care; when i had my first dog, in the 80s-90s, we did not have all these products.We gave garlic and brewers yeast internally and sometimes we used a flea collar. I always had cats and it was very rare that they got fleas even when they went out with me. About 3 years ago, I adopted a dog and noticed that the fleas are worse than ever b/c of climate changes, rain, but i suspect they also have evolved b/c my vet reported that even dogs and cats that used the toxic stuff were getting fleas last Fall! We need to stop with all these pesticides!

🚨‼️Warning about diatomaceous earth: If inhaled it can cause severe lung issues including bubbles on lungs. I would not risk applying it topically on dogs or cats, and it should not be placed where they may breathe it in. I knew a beautiful dog who died from a bubble on his lung due to diatomaceous earth, food grade. It also turns to a sort of slime when damp or wet and doesn't return to powder form when it dries. It will ruin your vacuum cleaner and it's nearly impossible to get out of carpets.

I have used DE for years for fleas and all sorts of bugs around my house. I have put it on my dogs previously, heavily, to get rid of fleas also. I have dusted with it in my RVs and rental properties we have owned. It has always worked well and I have never had any animal have any issues. It is the only "pesticide" I will use in my own home. Everything else is toxic.
@rosewatson7163
@rosewatson7163 6 ай бұрын
High probability that they were not using food-grade DE. I can see this happening if that was the case. You should still use it sparingly and mask up / keep the animasl away from it until it settles. Otherwise, food-grade DE is about the most effective, safest form of general pesticide out there!
@cbeautifulworld11

I have firsthand knowledge that they used food grade only diatomaceous earth because I also used it on their dog while at their home before the tragedy. We were all aware of the importance of using food grade only. It's not hard to find on the internet verifications that diatomaceous earth can cause bubbles on lungs, which is from what that immensely, incredibly wonderful dog sadly died. I thought it important to warn others, hadn't anticipated unnecessary arguments, denials of the reality or theories. Personally, I will never use it again on any animal for any reason.

The Vet gave him meds and asked if the groomer had used different shampoo which she hadnt. It was only later when I read that many owners had reported their dogs becoming ill having seizures and even dying as a result of using Frontline. I havent used flea treatment since I dont see the point of treating my dog for fleas if he hasnt got them. I myself can vouch for Brewers yeast. I used to go camping a lot and got vitten like crazy. But it was fabulous because I love animals and I rescue animals. She talked about how dog and cat food is made, and the atrocious things that are thrown in with the dog food such as twist ties from the daily donuts, etc. Gosh, I wish I could remember her name, but I learned a lot and my pets is healthy unloved as could be.

Very good points. Decades ago there was a big controversy in the UK about the use of organophosphates in sheep dips used on farms to keep sheep tick and parasite free. Sheep were developing neurological issues and it was traced to the sheep dip. I used flea treatments on my cats regularly regardless of whether fleas were present, until i found out that the compound was an organophosphate. I stopped using them unless my cats actually had fleas. I found it just as effective to use at first signs of fleas, it still prevented infestation in the house. All it needed from me was a bit of observation. In the end, i barely had to use the drops, maybe a couple times a year and only in flea season. As long as my house was kept flea free, so were the cats. A lot of the issue comes down to whether or not people are paying attention to their animals. I knew what my cats' baseline was, so i knew right away if they were scratching more than usual and i know how to check for fleas. I also get bitten by fleas myself, so i have that extra motivation to keep flea free pets and home!

Stopped using chemical flea tx years ago, after noticing my pets acted unwell in the weeks following use, and then looking up the chemicals and the actual mechanisms involved. I realized the comparable human medicine would be cancer chemotherapy, and couldn’t justify that harsh level of toxicity simply to avoid what is more of a cosmetic and convenience issue, than a life threatening health issue for my pets. My holistic vet showed me how to remove fleas by daily consistent combing. I was skeptical this could work, but I’ve found it actually does fully eliminate fleas, and am willing to take 10-15 min a couple times a day for a couple weeks, if one of them gets the beginnings of a flea infestation. That’s what I’ve done for years now, and I’ve only had to do it every couple years or so. Some years, there are no fleas at all on any of them, despite them all having lots of outdoor time. It’s important to be observant and catch any colonization by fleas, early, while there’s only a few of them. The combing routine is much shorter duration and simpler early in the infestation. A larger infestation can also be removed, but takes a much longer period of consistent combing, and the combing sessions themselves are going to be longer. You also must have an effective flea comb. I’ve tried several types, and found the one with very close set, rounded, metal teeth, is the only one that reliably picks up any fleas in its path and holds them so I can rinse them off in my dish of soapy water. That’s important, as it considerably shortens combing time and avoids having captured fleas escape, to return to the pet.

Not only did it do nothing to repel or kill fleas, but it caused a chemical burn on the skin of one of my cats at the site of application.
