I didn't even think about Leroy. Besides I think they are putting a body on Leroy. I'm glad you're building cars because Cleetus is into airports, airplanes, helicopters and not spending much time racing lately. That'll probably piss off the Cleetus dudes but it's the truth.

No, we had it adjusted so that it barely released the clutch. Turned out to be a throwout bearing style vs clutch mismatch.
@PatrickLipsinic
@PatrickLipsinic Ай бұрын
Does this clutch require a pedal stop for this also so you are not pressing the clutch too far? Also a good example of the racing that he's running this in is Grid Life GLTC. They are power to weight and there are several Vettes running and they are detuned. They would have to weigh a bunch at stock power. Most of the cars run around 230-240hp so they don't have a high minimum weight.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this thing with the thrust bearing. If the thrust is applying force to the middle of the fingers instead of the ends, it will have LESS mechanical advantage (shorter lever arm). So the same amount of force applied to the cylinder should have a lower applied force to the crank? I don't think it is a FORCE thing. I think it is a DISTANCE problem. The throw out cylinder will always move the same distance in/out. Since the lever is shorter, it moves FURTHER and therefore wears the thrusts right?
@KSRPerformanceFabrication
@KSRPerformanceFabrication Ай бұрын
Pushing in the middle of the clutch fingers means that it needed a HIGHER force applied to release the clutch. Think about pushing a seesaw near its pivot point vs out where you are supposed to sit. It takes way more force to achieve the same lifting energy. We only allowed it the amount of distance that it needed to just barely release the clutch so it was not a distance problem.

There is no reason to have a 7.25" clutch in a low..limited HP endurance car running AER/Champ/WRL especially if you have multiple drivers hopping in that could damage it and then you have to keep expensive spares that you can't get at a local parts store. you still have the OEM engine mounts on it so you aren't dropping the crankshaft centerline and could still use the OEM diameter clutch with a lighter pressure plate/flywheel etc... not to mention you have the teething issues of figuring out the parts mismatch like this. You guys have a beautiful build overall but the low HP enduro stuff sometimes you just have to K.I.S.S. I've been perfectly happy with the fidanza aluminum flywheel and the lightweight option spec stg 4 in my track C5 for YEARS of use and it was used prior to that for YEARS in a 4th gen camaro. I even towed a trailer behind the C5 during One Lap of America with that clutch. Every time I see someone go to the small 7.25" stuff they have NOTHING but problems. Only time to use that stuff is for when you put the crankshaft 7" off the ground or when you have a jerico and the clutch is used to get the car rolling ONLY. Change Grant's mind!
