Thanks Jamey - another excellent lesson! The chordal turnaround is tasty. P.S. A tiny correction, I think: as your tab shows, the second chord in the chordal turnaround is C#m7b5 (or C# half-diminished) rather than Cm7b5 (or C half-diminished) which is what you actually said.

Thank you! Also, you’re correct in that there is an error, but the chord diagram is actually correct and my speaking that was wrong. I said “cmin7b5” but it should actually be “c#min7b5” as the chord diagram shows. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’ll try to throw a correction up on the screen.

So….. were basic blues progressions set in stone by a musical genius blazing a path, or was it something that someone stumbled upon and said “Hey, that sounds good! I LIKE IT!!!!!

I think it developed out of African music carried to the US. There’s not great records, of course, but I think we can hear vocal pentatonic lines in what guitars play, and the shuffle rhythm coming from drums and dancing. Check out the Jazz documentary by Ken Burns and the early field recordings by Alan Lomax created for the Library of Congress (and free for all because of it - search Lomax Digital Archive )

Im search for a intro/turnaround I can't figure out 100% and don't find it anywhere. Who knows this? It's the beginning of the song Good Thinking Bad Man from Status Quo. I know the song alright and have the TAB, but not the intro.
