I went out to the mailbox a few weeks ago and there was some Starrett tools that I had ordered a couple years back. I emailed the seller and told them I hadn't received the tools and they said sorry.... It's been so long since I ordered them I couldn't find any history on E-Bay. Guess I am blessed they eventually showed up.... Nice anvil Harold. I have a piece of 4 inch solid metal about 6 inches long that I use for an anvil. I'm about like you, very seldom to never do I ever need an anvil...

Nice review Harold. But did you have to make so much noise you woke me up this morning?

All you need now is a horse to shoe Harold ;) That little square hole is used to bend rod and locate blacksmith tooling such as metal cutting and shaping pegs. Cheers Rob

Hmmm, I think a project video on making a stand for the anvil may be in the future….nice tool addition to the shop and you will find many uses now that you have it…

Nice anvil Harold, I bought a cmc router from Vevor, and it came promptly, free of delivery charge and competitively priced. Enjoyed the review. Cheers!

The round hole in an anvil is usually called the Pritchel Hole. I don't know about when it is in the horn though... Doesn't seem terribly useful for punching through a nail hole there (a Pritchel is the punch for finishing the nail holes in a Horseshoe...) It would still work for a Hold Fast (a spring clamp to hold things on the top of the anvil) though.

Nice anvil for the shop. I bought a 55 pounder from Harbor Freight 20 years ago. I only use it on occasion. This Vevor looks better quality.

I've bought several products from Vevor and am pleased with all of them. I can't say the same for UPS or USPS. Several things I have ordered lately have got lost in transit. Just Monday I received an envelope in the mail that started out with UPS and was delivered by USPS and the envelope was empty. It was supposed to be a 5/8 x 10 Left hand ACME tap. Envelope had a hole in it, and someone now has the tap besides me. I bought it on Ebay from a vendor that I have used several times, so I have confidence in the seller.

Every Machine Shop needs an anvil Harold! Don't go crazy grinding on the top edges of the anvil though, that was just someone parroting someone else who didn't know what the were talking about... You want one side square with no burs, the other side rounded over, I know lots of real blacksmiths who round one side from 1/8" radius at one end to 1/2" radius at the other so they always have the radius they need somewhere... A small anvil like that, I'd guess 1/8 to 3/8" radius would be good! It does look like a pretty decent anvil for a beginner though, Certainly better than what I started with!!!

That is a nice looking anvil Harold, I wish I had room in my shop for one. Also acciaio means steel in Italian.

Wrap some chain around the base to quiet that reverberating ping when you hit it. The sound will get very tiresome if you are doing any real work on the anvil.

Well, it's anvil shaped, it has that going for it. It's better suited as a boat anchor for a john boat. Until you've worked hot metal on a proper anvil, no one understands there is a difference. I have a swedish anvil and when you hit it, you better not be in the way because that hammer will try to take your head off when it comes back.

@@AmateurRedneckWorkshop Rule 1, Don't beat cold metal on an anvil! They are for hot work only. ;-) Throw some 1/4" plate on there to protect the surface if you must.
