Note: autonomous bonus is worth only four points, so the combination of parking and autonomous bonus is worth 10 points max.
Note 2: there can be multiple robots parked on the center platform.
Note 3: V5 systems are allowed to use pneumatics, although the motor count is reduced from 8 to 6. This is stated in Rule R12

Do we have to use V5 microcontroller and motors? Or can we use older VEX U kits?

Im not sure about VexU, but for VRC you can use cortex systems through the end of next season.

however, it's hard to double-park on the platform because you can't be touching any other platform, I'm pretty sure.

Time Tricks we did a scrimmage not to long ago a team got two on cuz they got stuck to each other and one lifted the other from touching anything else but yellow

It's not so much about the wheels, but not getting high-centered. (Obviously don't use the tiny wheels) I've seen that having six wheels, three on each side, helps you not get stuck on the platform. If you have only two wheels, you can get stuck on the flat part between your wheels on your chassis. I hope that answers your question. :)

Use a 6 wheel base. In the middle have high traction wheels and on the outer 4 use Omni. Also v5 has braking which is impossible to push off.

If you re asking bout the strategy to stay on, my idea was to push a plate into the platform to increase friction and prevent slipping off

So would you drive up next to the parking area and deploy a platform for your partner to stay on?

Think of it like dropping an anchor, it rests on top of the platform, right beneath the robot, and makes it difficult to push the robot off.
