I have known several people over the years who worked for the Post Office as senior managers, staff or sub-postmasters. They were all absolutely terrified of the Post Office Investigation Department and how badly they treated Post Office staff. They were widely thought to be evil.

Yes I think that comes over. Performance review and incentives drive much of what is now so wrong in society. We see that in the police, within the teaching profession, even within the NHS. When you dig into it there emerges a very unsavoury side of human nature. Stephen Bradshaw comes over as the architypal Scouser thug so beloved by filmmakers to play a baddie. We need to be careful therefore that we don't rush to a pre-programmed conclusion on his standing don't we? Of course we know that Mr Bradshaw has made his living out of condemning others. The police do the same thing. The medical profession are also paid to help the ill and we praise them for it but were they ever to run short of customers might we find them actually drumming up some new medical conditions. In fact its already happening as more and more people declare their own mental instability. Its such a shame that its actually inherent in the species. Just to drive home my point I'll ask what the amiable doctor is up to making this series of KZbins with his mild manner and forensic study of intrinsic badness. We're a fascinating study and mixture of good & bad. Moses tried didn't he? JC followed up being one among many hoping to straighten us out. However the sad truth is that we don't really want to be rescued do we? Our freedom to do as we like was hard won - so we're told. In any case where does the honesty really lie. Perhaps its just Steve Bradshaw's turn to be vilified..... !!

As an ex-IT director, one of the first things that struck me about the evidence given at the Post Office Horizon Inquiry was how what, in a normal organisation, would have been recognised as user reports of incidents, became “complaints”, “allegations” and “attacks” on or about Horizon. The adversarial mindset this revealed was not confined to the Post Office. The legal system suffered from it too. Although the Inquiry has done a brilliant job, it has never really got to grips with the failures or absence of IT service management knowledge and practice throughout the period of the scandal. In that formal and highly proceduralised discipline, it is unthinkable to characterise calls to the service desk, or issues raised with line management, as “allegations”. It’s as if the key players could only think in terms of complaint and defence. It was so abnormal a view as to be ridiculous.

The lack of qualified, competent and 'high level' IT (when Pol split from Royal Mail) oversight both on the board and evidenced in this weeks Mike Young testimony('Stay away from John Scotts kingdom'), seemed either a deliberate ploy to prevent any scrutiny of the reliance on Horizon(a system foisted on Pol by Gov) or a massive cock -up which no-one dared point out. Probably both?

Hi Martin, I agree with your point about the legal system. I have no idea why this happens when we should be able to rely on the courts and learned judges. Perhaps it's because we are just mere humans who all have prejudices and flaws? Anyway, thanks for watching the video and your comment.

Thank you Paul You are the only person that I have seen report on the most important part of the post office enquire. We all saw Paula Vennalls answer “ I will not say yes or not “ at the Parliamentary Business Select Committee meeting. Prior to this meeting Paula received written legal advice on how answer questions on Remote access tampering to the Select Committee. If she was pushed to stress there was no Remote Access. Sir Wyn William asked Paula Vennalls if the person responsible for this legal advice had written it to be guarded about Remote Access. Paula replieds” I would Sir Wyn “ Sir Wyn Williams then asked “ Why “ Paula Vennells had a problem answering this question. I live in Australia and have just spent 7 week in the UK and I think British media is reporting very little about the Post office Enquire and are missing the major information. Please keep helping Alan Bates to get fast Compensated for the Sub Post Masters

Thank you Dr Duckett for picking up on this, by way of background I worked in a bank from 1970 to 2024. I ended up as a postman from 2010 until final retirement in 2021. When working for a bank the inspectors were like the Stazi. You were guilty until you proved your innocence. Stephen Bradshaw exhibited those characteristics, and I witnessed similar occurrences in the small post office in rural Cumbria. Typical thug as I mentioned to others in January. Keep up the good work 👍

Thanks Paul. I am undergoing a grievance process at work. I submitted a grievance against a senior member of staff. I work in a higher ed institution in the UK. It turns out this person has been bullying and harassing staff for 30 years. They deliberately did not investigate my complaint. There was informational and procedural impropriety. As you suggest failures in policy, governance and a lack of accountability. Subsequently I was suspended and then when no case against me was found (after my ET1 was received) I was returned to work. Now a colleague in a particular team who was extremely inadequate and is known to be inadequate (a PO lawyer type of character that you showed in your above youtube clip) by a number of people has submitted a vexatious grievance against me. They are refusing to provide all the information they have gathered to me. They are also engaging in gas lighting - minutes are sketchy so they can rely on saying whatever I said or was said did not happen. It's been a litany of mistakes and errors. Thank Linda for asking for this video and Thank you Paul for making it. It made me feel less mad.

I am a retired police officer. It is a duty for investigators as an officer of the court, to investigate all offences from a neutral standpoint. I had a duty to divulge all evidence that not only supported the allegations. But also that which could support any defence. Evidence which I believed should not be brought to the knowledge of court, had to be placed in an “Undisclosed” evidence file. The defence could and should at anytime view this evidence. Which is usually rough notes made by the investigators. Sensitive withheld information that directly relates to the crime follow strict rules of procedure, such as informants and techniques used could only be withheld on the direction of a judge. Failure by me to follow the rules would put me at risk of contempt of court or perjury. My liberty wasn’t worth the possibility of an acquittal of a guilty defendant. If I had a weak case, I said so. William Blackstone wrote,"Better that ten guilty persons escape, than that one innocent suffer."

I think I would add a 4th point , timescale The complaint process should be resolved quick enough to get on with life. The post office case has gone on 2 decades I have a DWP case where each stage is about a year , we are in the third stage and not has a day in front of a person There is no justice … Ie we submit a complaint , they take a year to read it , get it wrong , we go to tribuneral , DWP admit we are right close the Tribuneral, but don’t refund money taken , we go to the ombudsman (ICE) and there’s another year queue … During the process the victim was evicted

Your take on these videos is refreshing and very informative Dr Paul, much appreciated. What staggers me is the code of conduct of the Post Office’s lawyers. I work a lot in the company of lawyers, and directly with them on the cases I present to independent and impartial dispute resolution boards. The demeaned and especially rage language used by them when giving evidence is appallingly unprofessional. Totally disgraceful behavior, as is this whole case. In my opinion, based upon what I’ve seen and heard, the Post Office is guilty of (but not limited to) systematic theft, fraud, extortion and collusion, and I use these words as a layman, not a lawyer.

Good video... we also have a legal framework here in the UK for vexatious litigants that 'spills over' into the vexatious complainant material you've posted. There are legal way points and Bradshaw ignored them all. But he has deeper legal concerns, he did much more than act vexatiously, he acted with malice... think of vexatious as being a 'Dog in the Manger' type of thinking and malice being "Dog ousted from the Manger, so defecates in it and on the path leading to it"... crude but the analogy I think, when upon rehearing him, fits him precisely.

Thank you Paul. You don’t owe me anything and you are not incompetent (why do we humans (not all) tend to denigrate ourselves)? I appreciate, (no doubt along with others who watch your videos), and value what you have to say. I feel priviledged you chose this subject to discuss which I have a personal insterest in having been subjected to similar behaviour by a number of Councillors representing local communities which subsequently caused serious psychological harm to myself. which continues to this day. Unfortunately, I have a diagnosed mental health disorder which Councillors refused to concede, notwithstanding the Equality Act 2010 coupled by the fact I had disclosed the disorder some little time ago. However, the psychological insight you brought to the table, rather than how I approach things when carrying out my job I held as Parish Clerk, from a strict legal viewpoint was both interesting and thought provoking. Your clarity and measured response/explanation you brought to the table on a number of issues/points raised other issues I had not thought of. I hope you don’t mind but I have today taken the liberty of sending you a letter of thanks to you at your University in Australia. Let’s hope the Post Office doesn’t lose the letter along the way! LOL May I also thank those who have taken time to watch and/or comment on this topic. Such comments have also been thought provoking and I respect what everyone has to say, negative or positive. As you know Paul, I have legal background and therefore, I am a big "fan" of Mr Beer (and his team) and have watched (I am so sad), almost every person involved give evidence in this debacle. Accordingly, I more than look forward to your next video. Take care. PS I wonder if it would be worth considering that someone like yourself, should have been invited to the inquiry to give a psychological viewpoint on how this impacted on the SPM's, (and dare I say...witnesses such as Steve Bradshaw or George Thompson to name a couple), rather than what appears to be a clinical legal arena? Just a thought.

@lynnedawson2935
@lynnedawson2935 Ай бұрын
@@ShakesSphere thank you for your further comment. I agree, many people may have found themselves embroiled in a conundrum such as this. However, as outlined by Dr Paul Duckett, as long as a fair and equitable process has been followed regarding the initial complaint, then there shouldn't be a problem. It is when these entities, via their appointed investigators/managers, get swept up and sadly, (for whatever reason), become impartial and therefore fail in their duty to follow adopted procedures/policies in the first instance. Further, if the investigator and/or decision maker cannot be impartial, (perhaps one could say they themselves are behaving vexatiously), and decide to impose the Vexatious Policy upon a person, without due regard, then, in my humble opinion this is when entities such as the Post Office fail miserably, in turn resulting in serious harm to those who first complained in good faith i.e. the sub-postmasters who were labelled "vexatious". Hope this makes sense - it's difficult to wrap one's head around this, "conundrum'. Regards, Lynne

Paul, your analyses are excellent. Here, as elsewhere, you shine a light on the truly rotten-to-the-core state of this country, accreted over years, generations. Britain remains a hierarchical, still-feudal, society, built on brute force, strength, power, stolen wealth, privilege. I can see why you left, although I wonder how different Australia might be from 'the old country'. We were founded as a nation by Norman bullies; and for nearly a thousand years the bullies have remained in charge. It might take another thousand for that to change. I think things will get worse before they get better, that there are many more Post Offices to bring down. Thanks for your hard work.

A caveat here on the number of court cases because that doesnt tell the story if evidence in trial 1 gives rise to other issues not previously known there will be an inevitable domino into extra cases due to evidence revealed in the case before and the case before that, - Im currently 5- 0 down but demanding a re match for Sept 7th 98 where excluded documents were disclosed and should have been considered. - A monopoly postal system can be manipulated by criminal means to cloud that process, Unfortunately Post Office act (a criminal process) is processed by Post Office investigators who mark their own homework,

There should be widespread concern with the roll out of unregulated facial recognition systems in retail stores. These are intended to reduce the escalating levels of theft from stores in the UK. However based on "robust" technology these systems have all the ingredients to repeat all that we have now seen exposed by the Post Office Horizon scandel. Like Horizon these systems work prefectly for 99% of the time. The unlucky 1% will be penalised, in particular it seems from many early examples if they do not present caucasian features to the camera.

The corporate world is a psychopathic world. Two characteristics would include traits like deception and immorality, foundational characteristics in psychopathic behaviour or the more favourable term, ASPD. The governmental system is no different. In the eyes of user/consumer and the employee, it's about being treated fairly with ethics and values, but under the guise of corporate businesss, the lines are very much blurred and rules and regulations based on integrity don't necessarily mean much, except for the brand and the services they sell. Prototypes of such systems have been at the forefront of social theory and critique for hundreds of years, with Social Change philosophers such as Marx arguing that capitalism, and instruments of capitalism, can flourish only within a context of exploitation. These days, making vexatious complaint can often be used to shut the individual down and remove any potential line of enquiry by those with alterior motives. Corporate businesses have enough eyes and ears open to keep things firmly underwraps, until a major issue might arise, like an inquiry....😊

If a CID officer Alan Smart allows a post office solicitor Mandy Talbot to proceed to vexatious litigant allegations presented to High Court assisted by misleading of or complicity with Attorney general then the police officer is far from impartial and the force unfit for purpose unless your purpose is to allow innocent postmasters to be imprisoned from 2003 onwards,

This video reminded me of what happened to a Post Master & his family who was wrongly accused of theft, I wonder if you would look into it. The asian family ran the village shop & post office in the sleepy Oxfordshire village of Horspath, the Post Master was accused of theft of a large sum of money, I believe he was convicted & had to repay the losses, some of the village locals literally wanted this man dead, someone even put a cross in the ground outside the family home, needless to say he has since been found completely innocent of any wrongdoing, he has not received any compensation, has suffered enormously, is in poor health & will likely die very soon, the conduct of the locals was depraved & far worse than just being vexatious, the most scary part for me is that the family still live in the village, know full well the individuals who perpetrated the conduct against them, apparently there was even condemnation from members within their own extended family, this is a story that needs to told.

So, if I understand correctly, the fair and proper handling of complaints (and possible criminal wrongdoing in the case of the PO) boils down to what should be obvious; that no one can be investigator, judge and jury. My feeling, having watched many hours of the inquiry (and “highlights” in your always interesting videos) is that this simple concept is almost lost in a fog of legalese and painstaking process. The sub postmasters, particularly Sir Allen Bates and Jo Hamilton, have been clear, eloquent and focussed on the core issues, while those from the other side have been everything evasive. Even today, with so much exposure of wrongdoing, the lamentable scandal drags on while sub postmasters slip into old age or pass away. Even as a bystander, words are beginning to fail me.

The last time I watched this channel, 2ish months ago, I was a different person. I was trying to come up with reason that there was such a concentration of bad people at the PO. Trying to resolve something else, I discovered that I had been manipulated, hoovered, attacked by flying monkeys and that an ex I couldn't delete, was a covert narcissist. I had no idea what a narc did, never mind a covert one. My hyperfocus kicked in and now afterx1500hrs of learning, everything makes sense. Narcs and Cylepaths need power to control. They lack our kind of empathy and we are just objects.The believe they are a god and rules are for others@, not them. The can discard you in an instant and they do. This can lead to a trauma bond but, you have no idea that it's there, They can do anyhting they want to you as they can't feel your pain..They infest places😂 to gain control. Now I can see them all over the PO. All positions of power, everywhere...

I will tell you that I am not a fan, he is a "Railroader" of the 1st order and as such has deceived the Inquiry on a number of occasions the deceptions being convenient omissions. He relied on the screen and did all he could to restrict the viewer/listener's purview. He got caught in doing this and was trounced by 2 people, one being te 'star' witness, the other a Barrister who was far better briefed than Beer. We are set to disagree, but hopefully in a reasonable way, you have an 'uncontorted' and clear mind in my opinion and frankly that's refreshing on here.

What is behind all of this is woke go along to get along culture. People being promoted or employed in positions way above their ability. We have problems in the civil service that is massive. Its supposed to be NEUTRAL. But it is now overun by individuals with a left wing agenda. With individuals being obstructive if government ministers want to do something that is against their ideological view. For example brexit and immigration. Civil servants briefed against Boris, they obstructed every attempt by government to stop immigration and the taking advantage of our advantages now being out of the EU. If individuals had been recruited on MERIT. Rather than their gender, sexuality, colour of their skin. These issues in the private sector, public sector would not be happening. Look at the past, we never had the incompetence in dealing with issues and governance. Until the minority woke culture took control.

This video reminded me of what happened to a Post Master & his family who was wrungly accused of theft, I wonder if you would look into it.
