I flew in and out non towered airports for years and now fly in a towered airport and love it. It took me some time to get the radio work dialed in but it is fair now, always learning

I recently used unable when asked by a controller to do a short right base to a short final, I said unable
@paulki8fr3 жыл бұрын
If your only flying a 20 minute flight. Is that to short for flight following?
@MzeroAFlightTraining3 жыл бұрын
I don't believe that any flight is too short for flight following! Radar services provided by ATC contribute to safety. They will advise you of conflicting traffic, provide you with necessary airspace clearances, and tell you the appropriate frequencies to contact next. Additionally, they will provide assistance in case of an emergency.

Controllers need all control instructions read back (this is because separation requirements are based on control instructions). It is a requirement for the controllers to get this readback and it must be correct. Wind, altimeter, etc are not control instructions but simply helpful information and they do not make or break separation between aircraft. Altitude to maintain, heading to fly, etc. (IFR and separation requirements in a VFR environment in certain airspace) are control instructions and must be read back. If they are not, the controller will have to ask to insure you as the pilot got the instructions and that in fact eats up even more time.

When I watched Miracle on the Hudson, I was impressed at Sully’s direct responses of “Unable” when ATC suggested multiple airports to attempt.
@MzeroAFlightTraining3 жыл бұрын
Great insight, Jeff! Thanks for tuning in.

Unable is used for many things. It's standard denial to atc if they request something impossible or something you don't feel safe doing

I understand stating the tail number, I can’t read a tail number from the ground or the air. I do my callout aircraft “white diamond da40” I understand your point about the Callsign. I try to listen on CTAF at least 15 miles out, at towered airports I and type and Callsign initially, after just Callsign per tower.

I’m currently a student working towards getting my private pilot license, I’ve not gone into towered airports yet, for instance I’m in Arkansas and Little Rock is class C airspace it’s a small regional airport not allot of heavy traffic, you basically just call into approach and say “Little Rock approach Cessna 007Q? The only real radio work I’ve gotten right now is Ctaf pilot controlled airports

That accident at hobby was terrible. That poor lady who is just being extremely nice. The only problem I have is why in the world with all the good airports close to hobby was she even attempting to bring that plane into there. Terrible situation. I live about an hour north of there and there’s no way I would even try to go in and out of that airport unless it was absolutely necessary in an emergency.

The excitement. The feeling of landing at a busy class b as If your an ATP pilot in a jet airliner, but with your GA plane. The feeling of feeling like your a pilot part of all the jet airliners on final with you, etc etc. Many reasons, gloating for example "oh btw I landed at a class bravo and I had 3 737s behind me. It's exciting, having to manage to do a perfect approach and landing and get off the runway asap oncr you land cuz you have so many airliners behind you. Most people will sit in the back of a jet when flying and not know a thing. They probably think being a pilot is easy and flying is like driving a car, you can take off whenever or however you want and turn when you want and do.what u want, they have NO clue the reality behind being a pilot. Most people will be sitting in the back with no control landing at a class B, so.will most private pilots, but landing as a PIC in a class B as a private pilot really feels like you went up a hundred levels. That's probably why
