Note Orson Welles was only 25 years old when he wrote, directed and starred in Citizen Kane, and it's his very first released film. You take all that into account when you see the editing, the timeline structure, the visual effects, its message, and you have one of the very best cinema masterpieces of all time. Remember. This all in 1941.

The context and circumstance under which art is made is entirely subjective to be taken in when examining it. And generally it's not a blanket thing. I'm sure we've all seen movies with groundbreaking FX in them and gone "oof, that's janky". That's us ignoring those contexts in that moment.

Remember learning some time ago: Citizen Cane's shots showing the inner roof was way outside of the box. Reason? To get cameras of the day that close to the floor was impossible because they were so big and unwieldy. Solution? They raised the set and made openings in the floor so the camera structure would be lower, getting the angle they wanted.

Another one of the innovations in _Citizen Kane_ was the use of deep focus, where something extremely close to the camera and extremely far away would be in perfect focus. They would do this by blacking out the background and shooting the foreground, then they would rewind the film in the camera and then black out the foreground and shoot the back ground.

Plz do Disney’s “Dinosaur” it’s the first Disney fully cgi-animated film. And look at Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
@Lugbzurg4 жыл бұрын
Almost. The backgrounds were live action and photographs. That's how they were able to get the CGI so ahead-of-its time; Because they didn't have to worry about rendering the backgrounds. It's like the film equivalent of Resident Evil.

There’s a scene in the 1st Christopher Reeves Superman, where superman, is stood on Lois Lane’s patio, Superman flys of and as he disappears from view there’s a knock on the door. Then the camera pan’s with Lois through the apartment to the front door, opens it and Christopher Reeves is stood there dressed as Clark. The camera NEVER cuts away, and it only lasts a few seconds, not enough time to change. Answer? They filmed the scene with Christopher Reeves as Superman flying off. This was then projected on to a large screen, at the edge of the patio set, and re filmed, whilst Reeves then dressed as Superman knocks on the door, and then the camera can pan across to the door and make it appear as if he has changed with super speed
