muteace had to take FULL advantage of every hit he got, and had to work surprisingly hard to take the stocks off peanut offstage, but he did do a phenomenal job of good Mac counterplay real good set from both players

I'm no expert, but it looks like MuteAce just abused float cancel to bait out Peanut's impatience and eventual aggressive option, and reacted accordingly. Peach can't stay in the air forever, he should have refrained from pressing any buttons until Peach eventually had to come down from her float or she retreats and puts herself in the corner. This seems like a strategy issue on Peanut's part, not at all undoable for Little Mac. I'd even say Peanut had inherently superior footsies, Mac frame data notwithstanding. Peach will act like she can camp all day, but if Mac just keeps walking under her she will absolutely be forced to engage. These are just my opinions, good stuff regardless.

I can't disagree with this take. First off, the commentators noted that at multiple instances Mute was floating at different heights, this was obviously done on purpose. Floating at heights close to the ground to bait out options yet still stay out of mac's threat range. Other times it was far higher, higher than mac can hit without a heavy commitment. Mac also never knows when Mute is gonna drift back, or when mute is gonna fall with an aerial, or when Mute is gonna throw down a turnip, or when he's gonna jump or go to a platform or go to the corner. Of course it's certainly doable and I agree that the optimal place for Mac to go is right below Peach to threaten Up-B, but Peach still has tons of options that it isn't as simple as wait for peach then corner her, who's to say she is gonna move to a corner? What if she falls ontop of you or hits you with a turnip? Mac's initial dash is really long and Mute stuffed out Peanut for trying to get under him a couple of times. Also, Peach only needs a moment on the floor before going straight back to float. While I agree that Peanut should have put more pressure from there. It's unfair to think that this is the biggest problem in his gameplay this set

@@OblivionZX Well what I mean is Mac doesn't have to be pressing buttons to apply pressure. His burst range, both horizontal with his dash and up b are unreactable at close range, so if Mac is walk and follow Peach's float, Peach must engage or retreat, since simply floating with him right under you will allow him to full up air into sharking shenanigans or just up b, both of which Peach couldn't react to. Even if Peach goes too high for Mac to catch, Mac needs only wait for the float to end, and then Mute Ace is going to fall down into Mac's arms with no other option than to attack on landing, which loses to like, literally all of Mac's options. Super Armor, parry, dash back whiff punish etc.

@@admirrad3777 I think that most of the nuance you described in MuteAce gameplay where exploitations of the same essential problem, Peanut's desire to dash and commit first. At 5:42 is practically symbolism for Peanut's flawed gameplan. He dashes in and commits to a callout, which works when he reads properly but often does not because callouts are inherently more difficult and require more information than bait and punish. You even mention Mac's inital dash, but Peanut didn't need to use a dash, he can walk, but he choose aggression everytime which can only work when you have sufficient information on their defensive habits. Peach does indeed have many mixups out of float, from retreat to turnip to fast fall aerial, but Mac has options to beat all of these. That's kinda his thing. Peanut didn't give himself the opportunity to use these tools, because he choose to commit, rather than wait more often than not.

Regardless of how good you are at the game, going up against a good Little Mac is really tense. For all the character's weaknesses, his strengths just put on so much pressure that makes it scary to engage.

@@extonjonas6820 I’m not a Mac player, but a gazelle punch is basically a ko punch straight off of hanging from ledge. Usually, it would be counted as an aerial ko punch, but using this tech, you can make it into a grounded ko punch. I heard it’s pretty tricky. The commentators at that moment said that peanut was just trying to go for an aerial Mac punch (he wasn’t). I don’t think peanut is greedy tho; he is quite the patient player. It was just a wrong interpretation on the commentators part, no biggie.
