I totally agree and I believe in the homie stock greatly. Mango seems to have a habit of doing things like that (f-tilting h-box after a flubbed rest during Dreamhack is another example). I really don't think he's a very prideful guy these days, just someone who happens to be one of the best at a super competitive videogame.

Armada has also had periods of dominance with a character that isn't as good as Fox or Falco. He single handedly developed the meta for that character. And EVO is the most overrated measure of a player. It has the worst rule set of any supermajor.

He lost some confidence on his Fox at CEO where Armada's Fox was better probably leffen's one too (he lost dittos then go falco but Armada counterpick him with peach). Maybe it started before idk. So he did use more of his falco After CEO but because of armada's peach and Hbox i guess he trained hard his fox because he would probably need a solid Fox to win a national where hbox & Armada come. (Armada was dominating at the Time and hbox was second all day while mango had bad result)

Hax$'s dash dances are insane. The pure speed, precision and control with the wavedash downs in between dash dances/pivots are crazy. However, Hax is still playing to 2014 standards of "optimal", and now Mango is just as technical if not more technical than Hax, since Hax doesn't know how to shield drop. It's interesting that Mango will opt for the Fox ditto against Armada and Leffen because it really puts him against Foxes that know what's optimal in the matchup, so Mango has had a lot of preparation for expecting the "optimal" approach options and followups and how to stuff them. So when it comes to playing the best that 2014 has to offer in terms of highest speed optimal, Mango's already got it down pat.

I love these commentators and many more, but it seems like silence (or game sounds) is the best way to observe melee, especially high-level play. Otherwise, at least for me, you get distracted.

i think for newer players and especially for pure spectators, having commentators is very helpful. New players can get a contextual explanation of metagame, while spectators will be cued in to when certain points in a match are really important or dangerous. Husband and Wife commentary mostly suffers from Husband talking more about the community/smash history than the actual match, but the knowledge these two guys have is nothing to sneeze at. I think the best commentary is one that gives a sense of the match at hand (big/impressive plays) AND the context of the match within the set> bracket > tourney > smash scene. BUT i totally know what you mean about the game sounds XD

I think I'm one of the only people who just really doesn't like Wife and Husbands commentary. They just aren't very informative and they have more drawn out conversations over actually commentating. Which is fine, most people like that obviously, it's just not my thing. I still prefer it over people who try to commentate and just end up doing play by plays because they have little knowledge of the game

Technically, more people are playing Melee and watching Melee than Smash 4. The scene is growing alongside Smash 4. Although, there have been a few tournaments very recently where smash 4 entrants beat out Melee ones (a couple of very notably big tournaments, so Smash 4 is no slouch), Melee is still consistently drawing more money, sponsorships, and viewers. Not that that is a negative thing. Smash 4s scene is partly fueled by Melees return. Melees rise to prominence is what really fuelled reinterest in Smash 64, and is likely the same for Smash 4, along with it absorbing the Brawl scene, which was helped up by top Melee players back in the day. Recently, Smash 4s top 8 managed to get as many viewers as Melees top 32. While ZeRo ", Ally, and Nairo may be established vets from Brawl, there's a lot of new blood, so the fact that they are managing to draw a lot of viewers despite not having as many established players as a typical Melee top 8 is really good. IMO, 2016-2017 will be the year that Smash 4 and Melee Top 8s at nationals will draw comparable viewers, but it's still up to the community to continue to draw in money like Melee has. A person with worse placings in Melee is still much more likely to get a sponsorship deal and be flown to their events than even a TOP EIGHT placing player in WiiU, which is disappointing. But as long as people continue to watch, and MORE people start to play and watch that should change. In the end, elitism and the unnecessary rivalry between the games needs to stop. A more cohesive community literally means more money, more tournaments, more players. If advertisers, sponsors knew that an average Melee viewer ALSO watches Smash 4, and vice versa, we'd see more co-sponsoring across games like TSM does, as well as a lot more sponsorships for everyone. A later pool of viewers means that corporations would look at Smash 4 as less of a risk than the long established and surviving scene of Melee.
