VIA Rail Canada 186 - White River to Sudbury (July 27th, 2022)

This is a ride on VIA Rail Canada Train 186, the only remaining route using the 1950's-built RDC Budd DMUs - between White River and Sudbury in Ontario.
Departing at 7:15am and arriving in Sudbury at 4 p.m., approximately an hour late.
On this journey, two 1956/1957-built RDC-2s numbered 6217 and 6219 are led by 1955-built RDC-4 number 6250.
Our train makes several intermediate stops - at Amyat (Negwazu Lake); Chapleau; and Cartier - along with a CP-crew pickup at a location near Franz Junction.
Regrettably, the weather started out wet and miserable but cleared up shortly after departing Chapleau.

With how absent train service is in so many parts of this country, I find it miraculous that this service is still in operation. Seems like a beautiful route.

Thanks for posting. Interesting to see this route again. I recall beiing on The Canadian in January of the early 1970s. I awakened when we were stopped in Chapleau, workmen with blowtorches doing their bit to keep the steam heating working.

We went Sudbury to Chapleau (2/3rds the way to White River) return in September 2022. Two car unit that journey. A super trip, not to be missed or forgotten.

It may be sad but it's simple reality. Revenue generating passenger train service is totally dependent upon patronage.

The TVO show was very disappointing. The tripping shows were all poorly organized and made.

I enjoyed the TVO three hour television broadcast. It was certainly worth my time watching.
