I remember getting off at Pogamasing 60 years ago. Brings back wonderful memories. Thank you.

A nice old train, I'd like to try. I just had a VIA Rail give us Taxis to get to our end destination because the crew timed-out as well. I guess it's a pretty regular thing.

Hey Mike, love your channel! are you talking about your trip on the skeena that you had to take a taxi? I saw part 1, looking forward to part 2 next week! Are you going to do the transcontinental Canadian at all? in regards to the crew timing out, I’m a railroader here in the US so I figured I could give you some insight about that, All railroad employees are work in what we call the T&E department, T&E is short for train and engine. T&E employees are governed by Federal Hours of service laws, federal law stipulates that T&E employees can not work more than 12 hours a day without 8 hours rest. Unfortunately when stuff happens the trains are late and the crews hit that 12 hour mark, as we call it in the railroad industry, you would outlaw. When the crews outlaw, which doesn’t happen often because the railroad companies know this and schedule jobs accordingly. When a crew outlaws, the train must come to a stop wherever it is and that crew can not move that train again until they are rested or a fresh crew is sent to rescue the train. Hope this helps! If you have any more questions about railroading , feel free to lmk.

@DownieLive, Mike you should come do a trip report video of the Sudbury - White River run. Heck I'd go with ya too, never travelled on that train west of Chapleau.

I'm amazed that there is still one intercity train that still uses RDCs. I'm surprised VIA Rail hasn't bought some Nippon-Shayro or Stadler DMU to replace them.

I'm sorry I just can't get over that. My experience when it was run by CP Rail it was often late but they completed the run. Even if it was carried by a engine. One time it was 7 hrs late and still made the run. Could you imagine the people in remote areas from Chapleau to White River and expecting a run from White River the following trip. That's upsetting and disappointing from Via Rail.

I feel like you were sitting on the wrong side the whole trip because i remember alot more river views and do they still take canoe trippers to spots?

Jeez, Sudbury is depressing. Actually, most of the region just seems to be a miserable place, judging from the footage. Once you get out into bush though, things improve but not much. It's unbelievable how dystopian intercity passenger rail has become in North America!

RDC stands for Rail Diesel Car, built by Budd Company. It is a self-propelled diesel multiple unit railcar.

I rode one of these bad boys as a child and later a teenager from Peterborough to Toronto; 'the Dayliner' as it was known back then. It appears that VIA spent some $$'s on this RDC set, gone are the vinyl bench seats, dull lime green linoleum flooring and most likely improved heating and A/C. Unfortunately, this 2-car RDC still operated in a less populated part of Ontario gets what's common-place for VIA Rail passenger service across Canada. No priority for passenger rail traffic, using rail lines designated for CN freight almost exclusively. The amount of tax payers money spent on taxi's, shuttles and motel rooms must be staggering.
@93kronic4 жыл бұрын
WTF? Really? Terminated run because they were 3 hrs late? That never happened with the CP Rail crew when they used to run it. However they were late most of the time but they still kept going. Holy crap what kind of show are they running. When the Via Rail crew came and took over it's nothing but sticks up their asses. You used to have the freedom on that train now It's just you can't get seat, you can't get on the train. The golden days are gone.
