Today we are back with another episode of Going Deeper with The Viall Files, joined by TWO Love is Blind 2 cast members! We get the scoop from both bombshell interviews, one from Deepti and one from Shaina. With Shaina we ask her about her non-negotiables, if lacking a religion was really a deal breaker for her, and her exclusive reveal of who she may be dating now that the show is over. Next, we interview Deepti and get the scoop on all things Shake. We ask her if his edit was actually kind to him, how he acted off camera, and how his comments about putting a girl on his shoulders reveals a lot more about him. We then have our mediation where our callers struggle when the boyfriend interferes in the mother and daughter relationship. The mom finds it hard to know where to stand when she and daughter fight. He wants to know when to step in and how he can give the daughter advice without her resenting him. Sadly it’s very common within asian households to struggle with internalized racism. Notice that he said in the show when he first came to the states, two things stood out to him the most.. snow and blonde girls. Most likely he was taught at a very young age that white people are superior and dark skinned people are bad. Whether Asian households want to admit it or not, it’s very common 😔

He was probably softer on her because she had already been portrayed quite clearly as the villain on the show and she along with Shake have been getting backlash. It’s at the point where he perhaps didn’t want to beat someone when they are already down. He couldn’t really ask anything that wasn’t already asked in the reunion, other interviews, comments section on social media etc. He even said she’s probably having a crisis moment right now. It was just a safe space to hear her side of the story (even though I don’t think she was being completely honest).

Why was Shaina not pressed in this interview on why she tried to sabotage Shayne and Natalie's relationship by telling Natalie about another guy interested in her? Or why she expressed doubt about them working out to Shayne? I think there was some sort of racist undertone as to why she didn't think Shayne and Natalie would work out, and I'm disappointed this situation wasn't even talked about. This show is the perfect breeding ground for narcissists. Great opportunity for love bombing and being a good enough person for a few weeks before you get married, the narc thinks they own you and you're stuck feeling confused frustrated and afraid. Also people (including myself before I got married) aren't aware of their own toxicity, and it doesn't look like many of them really know what they want, they just have general ideas and go with that. Go to therapy people. Figure out what you want, educate yourself on toxic and abusive behavior in others and yourself don't get unnecessarily attached to people.

Shake definitely has internalized racism - hence his negative comments against Deepti (which were so untrue considering she is a solid 10/10 and he’s 1/10) we’re completely untrue. Very clear he projected his own racism towards her. Not defending him at all. I could just tell that his comments were reflections / echoes of comments people + women have made towards him. It was very obvious and I hope people learn from this/know this.

So yes, they were smiling on the rooftop, but it was before Deepti and her family knew the horrible things he had said about her. And the reason Shake posted the photo was straight-up manipulative: He just wanted to imply that he still had Deepti on the hook. He’s just awful!

Basically the entire thing was edited by producers for ratings. I don’t think anyone should be surprised by that. The stories were all edited and they always paint someone as the villain. Deepti knew the entire time he wasn’t attracted to her but she chose to stay for more air time. They are all guilty of that.

And he talked about her looks in the most disrespectful way - even after meeting her family and eating in their home: What kind of human being does that!?! Other couples on the Reunion agreed that Shake actually got a favorable edit, that he said things about Deepti that were even more cruel than what was shown. The “edit” even tried to show Shake changing for the better - he just couldn’t muster up a shred of decency, even at the end at the wedding. Did u not see his behavior at the Reunion!? I think it’s also important to recognize the difference between doing something manipulative and being a serial manipulator. I think we can all admit, at least once in our lives, we have done manipulative things and not with bad intentions. It happens. No one is perfect. But when you have someone who uses manipulation to actively get what they want and their intentions are bad, that’s when you should steer clear of those types of people and it becomes a real issue.

I have this same issue. I'm a step-mom to a 14 year old boy and he does NOT like it when I try to interject in support of his dad. I have tried to train myself that if they start to "argue" with each other, I just leave the room and let my husband deal with it. It's not worth losing what relationship I do have with my step-son to get involved. I can advise my husband later, if I feel the need. To be fair, I have to say that Shake showed signs of physical attraction towards Deepti up until she started talking about having children in the pool scene. If you closely analyze his behavior towards her up until that point you can see in “real time” when his mood changed. These people are still strangers agreeing to make a commitment to one another in such a short period of time. I believe he didn’t initially take things seriously because it was for TV, but realized how genuine SHE was and got turned off from the whole idea. I actually think he had more of a commitment phobia that translated to him as a lack of physical attraction. Shake already knew she was Indian before he proposed to her. He also could have proposed to non- Indian women, but he didn’t. I believe that he wanted to remove himself from their culture’s more traditional values and she didn’t. A lot of times when people adopt values of another culture other than their own, it’s because they don’t want to feel limited or “boxed in” a certain identity that doesn’t resonate with them. It doesn’t always mean that they don’t like themselves or their culture. Human nature just likes feeling like they have options. Shake is very westernized and assumed Deepti was the same when she confessed only dating white men. I believe Shake was more optimistic about the possibility of living a more “westernized” lifestyle with someone just like him, but realized marring Deepti would put him right back into that box. Shake does not appear introspective enough to understand this about himself, so he mistakenly wrote this off as a “lack of physical attraction/chemistry.” It would have benefited for him to actually sit down with a therapist instead of trying to inarticulately diagnose himself to others. Deepti is gorgeous and he was so elated with her looks at the reveal that he touched her feet, so it wasn’t really about her looks.

I think for me I felt it was because of her body and his self-hate. He is a colorist. There is nothing wrong with her and she is beautiful inside & out. For example, he found her beautiful on the first reveal. On the second meeting they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. On the third meeting, he saw her in a bikini. That’s what I assumed changed for him. On the reunion they kept saying “watered down version” so I think Shake actually said much worse things about Deepti’s looks. There were comments from producers that Deepti had loose skin around her belly from her weight loss and shake made disrespectful comments about it. (Bikini scene)

I think the Shake thing was just self-sabotage. When he first saw Deepti he seemed to genuinely appreciate how beautiful she is. I don't believe he couldn't find her attractive and they seemed to have physical chemistry when they first arrived in Mexico. You could see the blind panic in his face when she was talking about marriage and children and the reality of the situation started to sink in. I think he used the physical attraction excuse to keep her at arms length and give himself an out. It's very sad to hear how much this manufactured criticism of Deepti hurt her when it had nothing to do with her and it was just Shake not dealing with his own issues. I wouldn't be surprised if he dates white women because he doesn't see them as wife material and his commitment phobia is never challenged. It's hard not to like Shaina even with the villain edit. She seems quite sweet and I hope her new relationship is a success. Hopefully Deepti also finds a good man after all of this.

The photos he posted after the show was his way of making it seem that Deepti has forgiven him (implying he may have apologized). He has a lot to learn and a lot of maturing to do. Shake is the only child in his family and he is from the culture where people usually have lots of kids. I think he probably was very overvalued by his parents. I have read a study that says: when children are seen by their parents as being more special and more entitled than other children, they may internalize the view that they are superior individuals, a view that is at the core of narcissism. I also think that maybe he has ED or he is not straight and he projects his own issues on Deepti .... or maybe hides his sexuality from his conservative parents, therefor he goes to the show like that.. I can be wrong, just my personal opinion... And I think so because in my country (I am from Europe) one guy I studied with went to similar show like Love is blind, and that guy some years later came out as gay... Looking back I think that the guy by going to the show like that was just trying to hide who he is. I can be wrong about that though..
