He would tease her and when she’d tease him back he’d immediately get all pouty and offended. Like… he was just mad that she was funnier than him or teasing better than him. I think Shayne was CLEARLY insecure about his intelligence, wit, and personality. Where Natalie had all of those things and more. So he would take it out on her that he felt less. Same thing with Natalie and Deepti that I saw. As someone from an Asian background, I think Natalie spoke out for herself well. While Natalie and Shayne did have different love languages, the main issue my husband and I picked up on when we watched their interactions was Shayne's extremely questionable behaviour. His angry tantrum when Natalie was upset due to the things he said when he thought she was Shaina. Him attempting coerce her into physical intimacy on their first night in Mexico, then immediately afterwards insisting that she give him complements when she was clearly uncomfortable. The blow up and awful things he said to her on the night before their wedding. I was seriously concerned for Natalie's wellbeing in the long term if she married him.
@RambleMaven2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if that was coercion or if she didn’t want to talk about that on camera and he didn’t care about talking about it on camera. In other instances as well it was clear that she just doesn’t like talking about sexual things in front of other ppl. Although she is American I know it’s common in certain Asian cultures to be private about sexuality. Also, going back to the avoidant attachment style referenced in the video she probably just felt icky giving compliments because of her attachment style + not having words of affirmation as a love language. I definitely agree that he needs to work on his explosive reactions tho.

If someone approached me the way Jarette did, I would not consider it a proposal. "Would you marry me if I asked" is not a proposal. But I see what Jarette was doing. He soft-proposed because he didn't want to risk having an actual proposal be rejected. If he actually proposed and Mallory said no, theres no way he could go to Iyanna and propose to her. That would have been an even bigger gut punch. I do believe that at that point, Mallory was his first choice.

I liked Deepti a lot but your comment was spot on. They BOTH stuck their heads in the sand. No.... Shake wasn't a hardbody but let's face it men can be very visual whether they want to or not. Women tend to downplay the physical and can content themselves with being in a less than passionate relationship if they value other things. She said she lost the weight but she still carried herself like a person who lacked confidence in their figure. You could see it in the glimpses we had of her onscreen. He had to see it up close and personal 24/7 and struggled with whether he could LIVE with it forever. If she was really strong on showing herself as attractive to him and knowing if he really wanted that she would have put the priority in that area too. She didn't. Instead, she was betting that the cultural connection would sway him. Honestly, her ending it at the alter the way she did made me pity her. It wasn't growth. It was not "choosing her" as she put it but just smacked of insecurity and revengeful antics. Shake probably handled this better than we thought but we can't give him that benefit due to the edits. I do think this show would benefit from the couples getting some time individually with counselors and as a couple before they head down the aisle.

I personally find it patronizing and degrading when someone tries to use them on me and have a hard time getting out of my own head to think that someone might actually want, let alone *need* to be spoken to like that...

I agree I know that my love language is physical touch and quality time it would be really hard for me to be with someone who constantly needs words of affirmation especially because I tend to be a bit sarcastic so I understood where Natalie was coming from even receiving compliments myself can make me feel really uncomfortable. I wish that was something that she was able to express to Shane and honestly they probably just shouldn’t have been together in the first place there’s several red flags in that relationship so I honestly don’t know how they even made it this far.

My main receiving love language is affirmations too. But I feel there is a difference between feeling loved and appriciated by the words that are being said to you and being needy for compliments all the time to form some kind of base level of connection. Shaine seem to be deeeply insecure and thus also very defensive. He only focuses on what he needs, rather than focus on Nathalies need. I feel that Nathalie has very good communication skills in general, while Shaine doesn‘t and lashes out a lot. In my opinions, there are things that should never be said to a partner, even in anger. That you hate them is one of them. Maybe I feel so bad for them because I am a Nathalie type who usually goes for Shaine Types.
@filmgirlLisa2 жыл бұрын
I felt differently. Shayne seems to always find himself the butt of the jokes. He even said in the beginning, "I know I'm a tool." That to me means he internalized all the negative things people have said to him in life based on his personality and his physical quirks. When you've been maligned alot, you need a lot. To me he was giving Natalie all he had but as soon as they came out the pods she thought it funnier to go in on him, probably like people did to him a lot. It was weird to me that she would switch up like that. I imagine that he hit a wall with "losing" the batting cage thing (which shouldn't be a big deal to us but might've been huge to him) and maybe the fight started with Natalie making fun of it and it got really big. I do feel bad for them both but he definitely needs therapy.

Please do a deep dive on the relationship/marriage/divorce announcement of Iyanna and Jarrett.
@infjinfj19002 жыл бұрын
I think Mallory was actually running away from her true feelings because she didn’t trust herself to make the right decisions in them, along with wanting to please her family. Mallory thought choosing Sal would would be best for her in hopes that her attraction to “what she thought would be a mistake,” (Jarrette) would go away and it didn’t. Many therapists and dating coaches encourage people to downplay their chemistry out of fear of picking the wrong partner, and this is an example of how it backfires. Mallory and Jarrett’s chemistry was so strong that Sal and Iyanna were both threatened. That’s the real reason why Sal decided to say “no” because he could not get the same reaction out of Mallory that Jarrette did in that one conversation in Mexico. I’m a firm believer that relationships work better when women their mates, and Iyanna chose Jarrette. Mallory had a look of regret at the reunion when she realized Jarrette turned out to be a good partner for Iyanna when it could have been her. You should always trust your own intuition when dating.

@alexish81832 жыл бұрын
@@1drfulfree471 I believe Jarett and Mallory had natural chemistry and their relationship would have been very passionate. However, that doesn't always translate to the best long term partnership. Jarrett and Iyanna compliment one another in a way that makes their bond more likely to be stable and long lasting. Iyanna seems to be very solid in who she is, her morals, and her values. That element seems to be missing for Mallory in my opinion.

Yes! So much great insight here. As a future MFT I did a lot of this while watching it lol Iyanna reminds me of season 1 Lauren, love them both. Quick thought- financial security can always change during a marriage (esp with an unforeseen event like covid) while emotional stability is a skill that doesn’t often go away. However, emotional security can grow if underdeveloped, and with therapy it can help a couple grow together versus apart. So thank you for bringing that up! You nailed the dynamics of these relationships and this was so fun to watch. Also, team Sal forever- such a good dude.

Jarrett and Iyanna had the best relationship of the season by far. They didn't have a single fight during their 4 weeks while all the other couples had their partner crying every other day. Their only arguments, if you can even call them that, were scripted. A worker on the show said that on twitter and Iyanna retweeted him.
@cherryb32402 жыл бұрын
@paranoid goose I disagree. Just because people don't argue, doesn't mean the relationship is healthy. They got back from their honeymoon moon and he goes out 3 times until after 3am in 1 week. She had to ask him not to turn up to the wedding drunk and he and his friends laughed at that and carried on drinking. And when his friends asked him if he was ready to ignore the call of the streets, he seemed quite unsure, and so did they! Also, they seem to want different things; he wants a baby straight away and she wants to study. He didn't look very keen on the idea of financially supporting her to achieve that when all he wants is a baby. I'd hate for her to put her dreams aside because of his wishes. He came across very immature and not ready for marriage. But that's my opinion and you have yours.

My main takeaway was that I want to watch stuff like this with my little girl when she's older so we can discuss healthy relationships, red flags, etc. So I was happy to find this video! I would love to hear more analysis since the final episodes have been released. Especially regarding Shayne and glimpses into what appeared to be anger issues he needs to work through before he can be in a safe and healthy relationship with anyone. There were times he seemed really scary and verbally violent. I will say, it was good for me to think for about his love language. I also need words of affirmation but there seems to be a stigma around it, like people who need affirmation are more shallow, or that maybe it's more acceptable for a woman than a man to have that need. Thanks for helping me think and examine myself!

Love this reaction episode, thank you so much for doing LIB (I'm a huge fan of this series)! My favourite couple is Jarrett and Iyanna, I adore their vulnerability together, and even though some might feel Iyanna is a bit immature, I actually feel that she's incredibly mature in her emotional availability and is very insightful. A close second though who I was surprised I liked was Shyane and Natalie - I wasn't a big fan of Shayne to begin with because he's definitely not the personality type I would be attracted to, but I have great respect for how open he was right away with what his love language is, and how he handled the situation Shaina, as well as the conversation with Shake. I do agree Shayne/Nat's love languages is a serious mismatch (when she called him a piece of s*** jokingly I cringed sooooo hard), and I think ultimately was what caused the demise in their relationship... but I would ask if there's any amount of couple's counselling that could have helped them? They really do seem great together if they can learn how to give each other what they both need. As for favourite person overall, definitely Deepti hands down! She is who I want to be when I grow up - and I'm almost 40 🤣🤣🤣 So much self awareness, confidence, and kindness... just beautiful inside and out.
