This is the best video of Casa Manila. It’s well researched, well presented, the presenter is very knowledgable with no pretense at all unlike other videos. Much recommended indeed!

Been here, super ganda ng place.

Hinding sya bagong restored. Casa Manila is just a replica of an 1850s bahay na bato that was originally built in San Nicolas, Binondo. The original house was burned and destroyed during the Liberation of Manila in 1945

Plaza San Luis should extends it 's boundary across the street at the front of Casa Blanca and beyond the occupied lots of these illegal settlers these lots use to be vacant lots in the 80's now occupied by squaters and illegal settlers The Intramuros Administration should buy this lots and extend Plaza San Luis Complex this can be interlink with overhead bridges which were a common achitectural feature in old photographs of Intramuros like the overhead bridge between the San Agustin Monestery and Ateneo Municipal building. These will house various shops and curio as well as retro bars and colonial style restaurants a hostel, antique shop a coffee shops etc.

Good job, However, I do have one bone to pick. Truly, how many homes in the late 19th century Hispano-Philippines were there of that scale? Maybe 10? Would twenty be stretching it? Wouldn't it be more accurate to say: "this (recreation) is . . . the atypical, idealized, composite of all that was great, grand and graceful in the lifestyle of the elite at the time"? How many homes did the refined gentry "walk in to the strains of ethereal European chamber music and waltzes"?

A lot of the old houses even in Manila back h then had to be of that scale because of earthquakes, the structures were restricted to two floors. Even in Binondo now, some houses occupy an entire block
@mylesgarcia46253 жыл бұрын
@@MA-pn9zx But that doesn't compute. A larger footprint means more to be destroyed in a strong earthquake. I don't get the justification for a "larger house" -- or maybe we are not communicating on the same page??

@@mylesgarcia4625 There's still a lot of old houses in existence today that's similar to Casa Manila in scale and style. Considering the economy at that time, these houses were not rare in Manila and in the provinces. In a prewar memoir, the Japanese army had a heyday confiscating such grand houses having lived in small wooden ones in Japan. About scale in size, the wider the base, the more stable it is. Prior to steel enforce concrete, there was no choice but to build out than up.

0:21 it’s spelt “Principalía” so it should be pronounced Prin-ci-pa-LI-ya and not Prin-ci-PAL-ya. The diacritical mark is there for a reason. Same with 5:00
