Your reaction is amazing. It is so great for an Elvis fan to see someone else respect and learn who Elvis was. 23 years ago I married a black man when he told me black people don't listen to Elvis it broke my heart. 23 years later that same man has his own Elvis playlist and has seen ever Elvis movie ever made with me. The ones Elvis acted in and ones about him. He is even the one to first find out about the new movie. Which we have seen twice together.From a lifetime and third generation Elvis fan thank you thank you and enjoy the Elvis rabbit hole

Elvis was born and raised in "the hood" so his culture was black! And church ( white and black) and country ,Mama's radio! Rockabilly was what came out of him .... and at first only played on Black radio stations because the whites thought he was Black!!!

They embraced ALL the blood related Presley’s. Elvis put Memphis on the map. He treated everyone with respect and love. Until you got him pissed off and he didn’t really know the other. He was also HUMAN, which some don’t see that first, they just see the Star and sex appeal.

I'm a 70 year old white guy and love to see the black community reacting to Elvis in a positive way, I know a lot about Elvis but I don't where this negative shit being said comes from. Elvis was way more helpful and supportive to all of the black community than other white stars then or now.

Mary Jenkins Elvis' Former Cook Passed away May 30, 2000. She was Elvis' cook for fourteen years beginning in 1963. She worked from 7:00am to 2:00pm each day, fixing Elvis meals upon request, including one of his favorites "The Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches". Elvis bought Mary a house, a new Cadillac and six other vehicles over the years. Mary Jenkins also portrayed herself in the 1981 movie "This Is Elvis" and she wrote the books "Elvis, The Way I Knew Him" and "Elvis, Memories Beyond Graceland Gates ".

During the private viewing for Elvis, James Brown sat at the foot of his casket and refused to leave the room. What an incredible amount of love and respect they had for one another.

James Brown was so moved by Elvis' death that he requested, and was allowed, time alone with Elvis as he lay in his coffin at Graceland. James Brown was also the first entertainer to arrive at Elvis' funeral. James Brown said of Elvis, "I wasn't just a fan, I was his brother.

Elvis wasn't trying to be anybody else other than himself. His family was very poor and he grew up in a black community in MS. He went to a black church and was in their choir. People spreading false rumors about him were just jelly plain and simple.

Elvis was a southern gentleman who never forgot where he came from and he was very respectful and generous! He was loved by alot of the greats. James Brown sat next to Elvis's casket for 4 hours, didn't want to leave his friend. Mohammed Ali loved Elvis too. So many great stories out there from the mouth's of legends!! I love this reaction. The fact that you are learning who he was...the man behind the music is just wonderful. For those of is who have been Elvis fans out whole lives I suppose that we can be a bit protective of his legacy. To see a newer generation being not only touched by his music but willing to learn about what he went through so that we could have that music is phenomenal. There is a documentary called Elvis..a generous heart. It is a great look I to what EP did to help others and I think that you would really enjoy it. Thank you for sharing this with us. You're right that Elvis hated being called "King". He said there was only one true king and that was Jesus Christ. As far as the "King Of Rock & Roll", even Elvis said with his own mouth that the one person who held that title was not him, but it was Fats Domino. That's who Elvis said was the "King Of Rock & Roll".

Elvis was being kind and generous to all the artists that never got the recognition and attention they deserved. Every one of those artists knew that EP was bigger than they could ever be....and appreciated his humility. Jesus being King of Kings doesn't take away the fact Elvis was or is at the top of the mountain and above the rest on this earth. The title is well deserved and shouldn't be minimized or trivialized.

That's Mary he bought the house for. He affectionately called her "May Wee". He hired her as a cook at Graceland. He told her "You will always have a job with me as long as you want". One time Elvis was in the hospital on a strict diet. Elvis called Mary and asked her to make some hotdogs and wrap them up and sneak them into the hospital to him. Mary said Elvis started eating those hotdogs and then he turned and winked at her and said "We can sure get by em can't we May Wee".

I read to where he showed the house to Mary but no one had the house keys so Elvis found a window and broke in and climbed through the window. The houses he bought for friends and family are behind Graceland not to far from it.

Notice how Elvis put the black women in his show up front and not hide them? His audience was 95% white. He didn't care what people thought. That's a statement right there! Also, look up about Elvis and black angels in Vegas. It will blow your mind! He painted white angel statues black to represent the black people working at the Hilton where he performed because in his own words "for you Caucasian people who don't know why I did it, I did it because I saw there was too much white European royalty in this showroom". 😳👍👍❤️ There's audio of Elvis saying this and people who were there both black and white have confirmed it. I have a screenshot saved of the painting. There's also another story confirmed of him befriending and taking care of a black college student named Maggie. Bought her a car, paid her tuition and gave her a job as his personal assistant.

James was the first celebrity to reach out the day Elvis passed and had to be helped out of the room where his body lay before burial

Please watch Elvis a generous heart. He gave away cars, houses, cash, jewelry to people he didn't even know. He bought a wheelchair for a lady. In one day he gave away 13 cars in one day. Between 73 to 77 he gave away about $700,000 worth of jewelry to fans. He was an all around great man.

Elvis didnt just hang out in the hood, he grew up there. One of the few white families in a very poor black neighbourhood. Most of his friends growing up were black, very unusual in those days of segregation. Probably the main reason colour didn’t matter to him. Why would it? Most of the people around him growing up were black.

Mary Jenkins Langston was one of Elvis' Cooks that worked for him for 14 years . But Mrs. Mary was more than a cook , she was Elvis' Friend , over the years he bought her 3 or 4 cars, and that house that she cherished until her death at 78 years old

It's 1968. I'm 13 years old. MLK is assassinated in April. RFK is assassinated in June. The Vietnam War is out of control. Civil rights are being violated everywhere. Elvis is gutted, having grown up dirt poor and praising MLK and RFK for their passion to unite us all. Then, this song... He wore the white suit for hope; the red tie for the blood shed of young soldiers in Vietnam. Sadly, here we are 55 years later and not much has changed. But, there's hope...😢

Elvis was respectful and those talking against him are the disrespectful ones. Elvis could not separate himself from the people he was raised around. He became one with them and was not ashamed of it although both blacks and whites tried to make it so.

This racist thing all started when a writer for a black magazine back in 60''s wrote saying Elvis said this and that about the blacks at a certain place. Turns out Elvis wasn't anywhere near this place never said any such thing. It was found out later this writer didn't like Elvis for whatever reason and made the whole story up. The owner of the magazine found out about it and told the writer to apologize to Elvis. So of course Elvis had this fallowing him for the rest of his life. The damage to his reputation because of this article that was not true.

Elvis and his parents were one of four white families in a black community. Elvis dad was in prison. Elvis mom was extremely protective of him because he had a twin brother who died at birth. She was haunted by the idea she would lose Elvis too. You will learn a lot about Elvis as a boy. There is also a video on KZbin with Baz Luhrman interviewing Sam Bell for factual information for the Elvis movie he made. It is also very enlightening. I am really enjoying your Elvis journey. My man... another great reaction! And now you see why I hate when my people are so quick to say Elvis stole from the black community without them doing their homework... Elvis grew up with black people, learn to play from a famous black person of his time, and had many black friends growing as well as while playing his music... He didn't steal anything, he just added to it! And just like Em, his music was his way to get his family out of poverty and he never, not once called himself the king, others did that! But the hate this man received and still do some 45 plus years after his death is unreal! Can't wait til the next reaction!

Here for the second time cos I love your Elvis reactions ♥️ 😊 I made a peanut butter banana sandwich yesterday from Elvis ex Linda Thompsons book "A Little thing Called Life" But there you mash the banana and peanut butter together. And a funny thing is that Elvis knew if she had cut down on the butter 😂 Think that's funny and sweet in a way. He knew how he wanted his sandwiches. 1 stick of butter, nothing less. And, it tastes just amazing 😇❤ I have a husband who dislikes peanut butter, and even he said it was so tasty. So I get why he asked for that sandwich. Absolutely top notch 👌

Someone needs to correct Murphy. Elvis was and still is the#1 solo selling artist of all time and is all 4 halls of fames. Jackson can't claim either of those. Also, one of the guys that he sang their song, he paid his hospital bill and he was the only person outside of family that was allowed to sit with elvis at the wake in private, without guards or family. Elvis didn't like to be called king because he said there was one king, God.

The fried peanut butter and banana sandwich was something Elvis ate as a child when poor people could get peanut butter very cheaply. His cousin talks about them getting discarded bananas from the grocery. Elvis’s mother made sandwiches for him. Elvis could have anything he wanted to eat but he always loved food from his childhood.

Elvis last Gold Album would of been “Burning Love” but Chuck Berry’s song “My Ding a ling” Elvis was proud for Chuck and he kept saying as a joke saying “I didn’t get Gold because of a P****”…..lol. He showed Respect to all. Yes, he was in a very much low poverty area growing up. Even when he moved to Memphis he was living in poverty and in an apartment that was in the Ghetto. Not even scared to walk down Beale Street which was where he had heard more blues and it was also where the blacks hung out, but he didn’t care. It gave him more inspiration on how he dressed (that is where he got his style). He NEVER forgot his roots, which had him donating annually to all type of charities. If he heard anyone needing help Elvis took care of it. Elvis never talked bad about anyone. He didn’t need a huge mansion that some get in today’s times and even back then. He liked Graceland and 13 acres for $100,00, for his Momma. Graceland was Home! Memphis was Home! In Tupelo, his Father built them a small house on his bosses property. Gladys worker the fields holding Elvis in a sling sack. She also was a washer and seamstress that others would bring their clothes to.

What that black elderly pastor said (probably in part 1) was chilling. Remarkable statement. Has stayed with me since I first saw the documentary. James Brown, BB King, Roy Eldridge, Cissy Houston, Muhammad Ali, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jackie Wilson, footballer legend Jim Brown, and gospel queen Mahalia Jackson, were all Elvis's friends. Mary, if no one mentioned it, was the terrific cook he had for decades. Another good video Vibe Reactions.

Ray, a few months ago, I watched a video of some reactors that were really into the Elvis journey like you, and they were all in. Then one day somebody sends them a link to a video about Roy Hamilton. Elvis was a fan of Roy's music and actually got to meet him and gave him a song that he was to record. Roy did the song and sadly passed away not long after. Anyway, in the video commentary, these guys are saying that Elvis literally copied and pasted this man's voice! WTF? Roy and Elvis do sound a lot alike, no denying. But Elvis started in 53', Roy in 55'. Then they got on the kick about him stealing black music! I had had enough! I said I'm so sick and tired of Elvis did this, Elvis did that. Elvis appropriated a culture (Because he's the only one!!) Unlike, Vanilla Ice, Eminem, Post Malone, etc. I said, in the 50's there was a scandal called payola that ruined many a promising career both black and white. Alan Freed, a white disc jockey, who loved the R&B and Doo Wop Groups of the day, often put on shows highlighting these artists trying to get the music heard. The big execs liked the sound, but wouldn't promote the black artists. So they got established white groups and artists to do the songs instead. They were called cover versions, and everybody did it. Elvis did Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog". The Diamonds did The Gladiola's "Little Darlin'", Ricky Nelson did Fats Domino's "I'm Walkin'". Everybody did it, and it still goes on today. The only difference is back then, it wasn't about who wrote the song, it was about who had the biggest hit. my point is, these guys were quick to jump all over E for that, but that was just a 30 second snippet to an hour long documentary. What they didn't tell you was how much Elvis loved Roy and his music, and how after he died, he sent flowers to his widow every week for months after he passed. He also paid for Jackie Wilson's hospital stay and burial after he suffered a heart attack on stage, and passed after being in a coma for months. There's a video of Jackie Wilson's son verifying that as well. I really wish more people had an open mind like you and give credit where it's due Thanks for all you do Ray. Oh, I went back to that video a few weeks later because I just knew I was gonna get heat for what I said. when it popped up, they had turned the comments off for the video!!

.....Erasing Elvis other Influences........... This documentary is fine if the purpose is to relate Elvis to the community. But there's more..... Both parts of this docu, as well as the 2023 Elvis bio pic have erased Country Music, Bluegrass, Classical, Opera, Pop Ballads and mainstream (non blues)Gospel that influenced Elvis. If you listen to Elvis in the out-takes from the Elvis on Tour film, he cited a ton of influences, yet the modern view of Elvis is he's ONLY a product of R&B... and that Rock & Roll is identical to R&B with no other components. American popular music (and the evolution of rock music) is derived from many sources, not just one. From the very start at Sun Studios 1953-55, Elvis catalog of music was Ballads, Bluegrass, Country, Gospel (white & black), and of course R&B. If you compare the original versions of the songs he covered from these genres, then listen to Elvis' cover, you'll see the morphing Rock music before your eyes.

Quincy Jones started a lot of crap by saying that Elvis was a racist! He said Tommy Dorsey had told him that. No other reason....didn't even say why Tommy Dorsey felt that way! And of course there is no way to find out for sure cause Dorsey is dead. Quincy also said in the same interview.... That every time he saw Elvis he was accompanied by Otis Blackwell who was supposedly coaching Elvis. But Otis Blackwell stated that he had Never even met Elvis...let coached the man... !!! So....draw your conclusion from that.... But all evidence seems to be contrary..... regarding Elvis supposedly being racist!

His twin was came out before him and still born. He was named Jesse Garon and Elvis is Elvis Aron. They were so poor that they had to put his still born twin in a shoe box and buried in an unmarked grave.
