Finally a video that explains how a regulator works in a clear and understandable way. Thank you

A baddass ultra-slow-mo video of an operating unit, with o-scope voltage traces taken from each contact points set, would be AMAZING to see.

excellent very well done. no music, no sillyness, crystal clear. now I understand. thank you

Was rather intimidated by this diagram but now VR function makes sense. Thank you for such clear instruction!

Very interesting explanation. Sums up all what is going on in the regulator box. The same system is installed in vintage cars, i.e. in my Oldsmobile.

Yes! You could take the cover off the regulator and see the coils and points - pretty cool!

Great video! Thanks for the excellent explanation, this video was very useful to understand the operation of the mechanical regulator on my 63 triumph spitfire. Every else i have looked so far only said how to tell if the regulator or alternator was bad but nothing as to why my reg. has 3 contact points. Keep up the good work!!

Very nice job on this explaination . The fine control of this type regulator is a little involved but this video covers it so it is clear. Good learning tool.

Great video and very clear explanation. Can you fill in what is the role of R2. I think it is not explained. Thank you

Thomas Stridsberg It acts as a capacitor (this was before capacitors - later models did incorporate capacitors) to absorb voltage spikes. Thanks for watching! :)

Great tutorial. I think, though, at 1:25 you meant to say the RCCR upper fine winding coil is a VOLTAGE sensing coil, not CURRENT sensing.
@skytech9510 жыл бұрын
Also, at 6:25 you should have said you that when the voltage regulating contact opens you will get less VOLTAGE out of the generator, not less CURRENT. It's true that the current flowing from the generator will also drop, but that's due to its reduced voltage output. The coil that controls the voltage reg contact is a voltage sensing coil. Not a big deal, but it would be best if you could correct it.

@@skytech95 Also at 5 minutes, when the Current Limiter contacts open, the Field circuit would go through the R1 resistor... so there would still be some current flowing through the Field. She says there would be no current flow through the Field, but I think this is not correct. The Field still has a path through the R1 resistor, so the current flow through the Field would be reduced, but not eliminated completely. Still, very good video!

Very nice video, even after 10 years it is good. :) I Have a question as I have one old Bosch ZAD 14V 11A. The resistor R2 is missing, and some one have replaced it with a wire. Do you have any idea what the resistance value of this could be? The regulator is not working as it should now, it is overcharging. :(

from where the field winding gets voltage to produce magnetic field when you start up the engine?
@petarmiletic9977 жыл бұрын
From the residual magnetism of the dynamo. When the dynamo starts spinning a small voltage is generated. The voltage is applied to the field winding which in turn increases the output voltage which in turn increases the current of the field winding etc. It's a positive feedback loop.

why rotor field winding is connected to stator field winding?
@aewcac6 жыл бұрын
THERE ARE 3 MAGNETIC POSITIONS. 1. LEFT IS USED TO INITIALIZE FUNCTIONALITY THROUGH MAGNETIC ATTRACTION. ONCE CURRENT FLOWS, GROUND IS STILL NEGATIVE. 3. END COIL (NEGATIVE GROUND) IS A STEP-UP TRANSFORMER TYPE COIL. IT CAUSES REPULSION BETWEEN THE TOP GROUND AND ITSELF. 2. MIDDLE. ONCE "3" IS ON AND "REPULSION" OCCURS, "2" (MIDDLE COIL) TRANSFERS POSITIVE TO THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR/CURRENT LIMITER, MAKING "THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR/CURRENT LIMITER BECOME POSITIVE". ONCE THEY ARE POSITIVE, ATTRACTION OCCURS; "THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR/CURRENT LIMITER" AND "3" (COIL) CONNECTS. THE CYCLE CONTINUES BY RESTARTING THE CYCLE FROM "1". 1. POSITIVE IS THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE TOP OF "1"-LEFT, AND THE SWITCH IS OPEN AGAIN.

Not explained very well. Needs to be more explicit and the presenter seems not sure of the content. She may have a good understanding of the concept but cannot express it. I hope you wanted honesty.
