A bit of a tough endurance along that ruggered track. Enjoyable to watch.

Hey Trev, definitely called for that. Was quite happy with how the Sherpa winch performed.

Crazy trip mate. That winch sure got a work out. Have to say though I was cringing every time I saw Luca or the other guy so close to that winch rope especially when under pressure. No blanket and standing right in the dead zone.
@OffTheBeatenPathAus4 ай бұрын
Winch did get a work out. The camera makes it look a lot closer than it was, he was forward and off to the side of where any recoil would be.

Thx mate, we got a bit more than we bargained for but all the vehicles handled it well! Definitely memorable! Awesome you're watching from Ireland!
@grahameroberts81094 ай бұрын
Two concerns: 1. was there a winch blanket used while winching? and 2. Why did the winch assistant stand between the anchor point and the vehicle? Also, the tyre pressures looked too high.
@OffTheBeatenPathAus4 ай бұрын
Thx Graham, no we didn't use a winch blanket, conventional wisdom recommends them but I've seen more than enough evidence they don't make a huge difference. Second point is a camera issue. Mostly filmed with GO Pro's they have a fisheye style lens that distorts things a bit. i.e. everything gets flattened a bit and looks closer than it is. Luca was always out of the direct line. Tyre pressures - possibly could have been lower but these are highway terrains and I didn't want to wreck the sidewall or pop them off the bead. A few PSI less might have helped. They were already at 20 PSI.

Good one mate, and much enjoyed. All said and done I think the tyres did pretty well for what they are. I didn't expect you to get as far as you did. Lovely view up the top of Scrubby Track. Cheers mate, BobbyB.

Yeah you and me both Bobby. As Luca said he's throwing the rule book out on what's possible. Was a great drive, even if some of us winched a fair amount of it. Literally like an hour and half for me to do the first 2km of the track...

That was bloody hectic mate. Trusty Luca on the job. Thanks for sharing

Hectic definitely sums it up. Solid stint from Luca running the winch rope. I hope I'm half as fit with half as much eneregy at his age!

Great job of showing the craziness of scrubby creek trk. Did it a few years ago go once in the dry which was no hassle and then twice in the wet. Not as wet as when you did it but needed the winch when wet. Might get a video out from one of the wet trips. But it has definitely deteriorated since then so u did well in those AT’s.
@OffTheBeatenPathAus4 ай бұрын
Thx mate, yeah I last did it 4yrs ago in the dry, in my Paj, which had both traction control and a rear locker. So had no issues then, track very different now for sure:-)

Interesting track...lots of winching and that creek crossing was soooo wide.

Yeah the final crossing was definitely one of the widest I've done. We were lucky it wasn't too deep. Thanks for watching!

Not sure what date you did this, but looks like it's changed a bit since we were there. We did this 8th-June, track was a lot muddier. We got stuck at the point 8:49, again just around the corner. That "rock wall" at 15:40 was a vertical mud wall. Hit that in the dark about 7pm, in the rain. We couldn't get up it, ended up turning around and back down in the dark/wet. Another 3-4 groups behind us, dozens of vehicles all did the same

Hey mate, I’m going to ask Jase the same question. In the dry this track would be easily accessible? Obviously it has its challenges in the wet. Troopy twin locked, lift on 33’s. Maybe with a Luca to help me out if I get stuck. 🤣 TIA. 👍🏼
@OffTheBeatenPathAus4 ай бұрын
Yeah have heard that it's a bit worse for wear since we went through. This was early Jan (yes I'm that far behind in editing) so couple of months more traffic prior to seasonal closures definitely could have chewed it up.
@OffTheBeatenPathAus4 ай бұрын
might have to take back my earlier comment Krusty, sounds like conditions have markedly worsened on this one. Might be a suck it and see situation.
@aguyandhistroopy4 ай бұрын
@@OffTheBeatenPathAus don’t think that area is a seasonal closure area, could be wrong. By the time I get around to getting there it will be open even if it was. 🤦🏽 The old troopy is always up for a bit of challenge, just hard to recover myself ! That’s for showing this mate 👍🏼

Might have missed it but how long did the track take you from the start of scrubby creek to after the rover crossing?

First 2km with me winching a lot took about 2hrs for everyone to get up, next 5km took only probably half an hour. l

Quite the drive that one Jase. Hope you supplied Luca drinks all night at camp. 👍🏼 Wouldn’t attempt this in the wet solo? twin locked ? Just incase it’s wet if I go? Pretty sure Collins Hut has been pulled down, but I could be wrong. It was in a bad state a year or so ago. Bet ya loving having some real tyres these days.
@OffTheBeatenPathAus4 ай бұрын
Mate in the wet, solo, twin locked with decent tyres I think you'd be fine. Luca and Paul both drove the whole track no issues and they're both twin locked running decent muddies. Thanks for the heads up on Collins Hut, I haven't been there for a few years and it was in a pretty bad state then. Definitely glad to have some decent tyres on now but it was interesting to see how far I could go on highway terrains and confirm that really its only in extreme terrain it makes a big difference.
