Vic Tip! fixing gear shift indicator easy

This auction Crown Vic had a broken gear shift indicator when I picked it up last month. Luckily I was able to repair it quite easily and in this video I will show you how.

Also I took the traction control button off my 2001 Vic and put it on the hidden traction control plug harness. When I hit the button it blew a fuse and also killed the relay inside the instrument cluster. No bueno...Bueno... radio or windows until I wired a work around. Thanks for your great content 👍

Also even if you put a traction control button you still won’t have TC. It just comes with wiring for it but they don’t actually have it. The crown Vics that did have a different brake set up.

Good info. Just bought a 2008 P71 same issues, gear indicator stuck and no odometer reading. Need indicator fixed for state inspection.

I was sort of hoping you would have to go a little deeper glad yours was an easy fix for you mine how ever is a little different I have a 2001 towncar nice car 490,000 miles son it and it still run like a top my problem is the spring on the cable that moves the pointer can't find were it attached to I have everything out of the way ,any ideas thanks lost the dash for now Ed

Hey Mike... great video. I have a 2008 Crown Vic Interceptor that I want to sell and want to fix the gear shift too. my problem is that there is a 2 minute delay putting it in gear. I have to wait to hear a little click... I've dealt with it for 5 years but in selling it I want to fix it for the next person. the car also has that kill switch but underneath.... ANY SUGGESTIONS HOW TO TELL A MECHANIC TO FIX IT. ... THANKS

Hi there, i just bought an '09 cvpi and i was wondering if you ever got the traction control switch for it or got it working somehow? Mine has the same panel with pedal control switch but no traction switch.

If you turn that little black screw that’s attached to the cable on that brown plastic bracket you can adjust the lever position as well. Simple.

You don't need to remove all that trim and bezel. The top cover behind the steering wheel will come out with a little shimmying.

Most grand marquis come with the peddle adjuster and no the traction control would not turn off just from wiring in a new trim piece I’ve tried in my 2000 marquis

I have to wires/connectors coming out to the trunk release slot on the dash there. One has a sticker that says ignition? Do you know of why there is 2 or which should be used?

Thanks for imparting more lore on our vehicles. Btw the little black clogged wheel on the gear indicator plastic yellow piece you screwed back in is for fine tuning the indicator needle, done with lever in park, then rotating it to where it’s exactly centered. Just a minor point that I saw elsewhere on the ‘Tube.

I have a 2011 crown Victoria police Interceptor and it does not have cruise control, my question to you is how hard would it be to install a cruise control on my crown Victoria that does not have it..can you make a video on how to install one?. Thanks

you have to get a steering wheel with cruise a tan one is on ebay for 100 rn and u have to get your computer flashed by a shop or dealer to enable cruise control if youre on an 08+ crown victoria, older ones need an abs pump with cruise or something like that

My gear lever on mine is difficult to move from park to reverse or drive. Not sure what the issue is.

The first dash and the last dash have different mileage on them? Did you change gage cluster or different cars?

Yes my indicator is out on my 2010 I cannot see how many miles is on it thinking about taking it swear to get it fixed

There are a few places you can mail it to and they fix it and send it back for like $100. I had to as well for my 2010. But my biggest pain has been the horn. I think they disconnected it so I've been trying to find where to fix it. They left an air horn working at least ha ha.

4:35 that's the contacts for the headlight switch, that's not how you're supposed to disconnect it

****PLEASE HELP!!!**** The black screw attached to the black cable is broken in half (the black "screw" is what goes through the black adjustment wheel in the dark brown bracket) I can't easily just glue it back together, it wasn't a clean straight line break, there's a teeny tiny chunk missing from the screw. Kindve like when you chop down a tree, that triangular cut out shape before you yell "TIMBEEEEERRRRR!!!" 😂 but seriously this has been really hard to fix/rig Is there a way to fix/rig it or do I need a whole ass new gear shift indicator set, because I can't find a single one anywhere on the internet. All discontinued and out of stock, unless anyone has *A SAFE UNALDULTERADED VIRUS RIDDEN* website link 😂 Please help and thank you!
