Update on the taxis (I was there 1 week ago): taxis have gone really corrupt in Istanbul. They will usually only accept tourists that speak a foreign language, especially from the touristy areas. They will charge illegal prices and/or drive out of their way for the meter to go up. If you are going to/from the airport, reserve a private shuttle, or ask the hotel to call a legit taxi. Despite that, Istanbul is a beautiful city, and I totally recommend going there, as well as the rest of Turkey.

So true. As a 20-year-old Istanbul resident myself, I can easily say do not take a taxi unless you know every single bit of the city. So, a taxi is already a pass for people like me who knows certain areas better and it has to be a big no-no for the tourists. Uber is legal here so I recommend people to take it instead since its pricing is calculated by the app and not the distance traveled. If you want to go cheap you can always pick up a bus but you are warned, they are too crowded, people standing up can squeeze each other enough that not one falls or gets shaken during a hard brake.

as a Turkish person, I suggest you use an application called BiTaksi so you can see the price and see the stats of drivers. And also uber came back to Istanbul again but it's just only for taxi drivers , by that way you can have a safe and no-hustle trip. Especially if you landed at Sabiha Gokcen Airport go out a little bit and call a taxi by applications which I mentioned before. Don't ever use airport taxis. They even charged the fees in double when the Ataturk Airport attacked by ISIS and they didnt accept any turkish people on their cars .

If you are staying in Taksim area, just take the shuttle bus. It's fast, it's cheap. My fiancé and I took the shuttle bus to and from the airport the second time we were in Istanbul (he took it both times). It was absolutely the best way to get to Taksim area for a low cost without a hassle.

I had absolutely the best journey with Turkish Airlines. I flew from Birmingham to Istanbul in Business Class and the flight attendants were absolutely the most kind and caring people I’ve ever met! The company helped me a lot due to the big hurricane “Ciara” *if I remember right* as well! My friend who was flying with Lufthansa cancelled her flight 3 times and still they offered her nothing. To me, They only cancelled it once and they gave me free stay at a 4 stars hotel with free transportation and free breakfast! Never gonna forget this experience ❤️ 🇹🇷

My favorite First Class (Business) Airline experience. Never had any troubles with the WiFi. Overly solicitous crew “No I can tuck myself in thank you.” 😂 I loved watching the flight path. Turkish newspapers are eye opening. I spent several weeks in UAE ; Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The best food I had was on the Turkish AirLines Business class flights. I still have my minarets.

I use Turkish Business Class at least twice a year (until Covid emerged) from Manchester UK via IST to S. Africa, either Durban or Cape Town and return, they are absolutely superb. The Comfort, Catering and Level of Service is consistently every bit as good as you describe. In my experience the service on the ground is equally good and, the lounge at IST....... simply Wow !! One other aspect I can add is- As an Elderley (long-time retired) passenger who travels alone, assistance for the less mobile is equally attentive. Definitely my first choice Airline. I have used other Middle Eastern carriers on the same routes who, whilst good don't in my experience quite come up to Turkish standards, also for me the TK flight schedules are better with fast transits at IST.

I travelled Turkish airline in 2019 biz class from JFK and back and the service onboard is fantastic as is the biz class lounge at Istanbul at the old airport. The new airport was still under construction. Will recommend to everyone.
