This little camera has been one of the best rigs I have purchased for my guys to shoot video for our channel. We bought the Vloggers kit and also added a second wireless microphone. I shoot on larger cameras when I'm out, but the Osmo pocket 3 is way easier to shoot with. This little thing just has some amazing Voodoo stuff going on. Amazing video that is super easy really to learn to run. I also had the guys come over to your channel for your suggested settings and they were out shooting video the same night. It is an amazing unit. We also shoot a bunch of video is places with terrible lighting and a lot of our vids are on the fly. No second chances also for a reshoot (the carpet is only dirty the one time that night!) It's a remarkable unit for an incredible price. Thanks for sharing your experience with it too and thanks for the tips as always!

Like your review, but as someone from Ireland as well I think a major flaw is that's you can't have it out in wet conditions. I mean we very rarely have a dry week and when we are you camping etc there is usually at least one day that would mean that it can't be used so still have to pay for an extra action cam which doesn't mind the moisture. Have you used it out on a typical winter Ireland day?
@VicBarry3 күн бұрын
Cheers. To be honest something like this isn’t suited for outdoor content a lot of the time on this side of the pond. Granted I’ve had it out in damp conditions, snowy conditions etc all without issue. So an action cam is better suited for those conditions. But that’s the trade off ultimately. A lot of cameras and electronics aren’t weather sealed or waterproof but it’s not necessarily a flaw it’s just different gear for different needs. 99% of the time if it’s raining I’m not shooting outdoors so all the one to me. As I said though, different gear for different needs.

I love what DJI are doing in the camera market. I haven't bought a Pocket yet as I'm waiting for a 50mm or equivalent lens, but I'm sure there is one on its way.

Great full review! I have my OP3 also for a year now and I don't even think of replacing it with something else (except probably with an OP4 🙂) and I made plenty of videos with it. Never had any issue. The only bit of a problem for me are the tiny ND filters but I don't complain. And another "problem" is to explain to a potential client that seemingly tiny toy can do a great job 😄 ~Philip

Hi. I agree with all your points, especially the tracking in low light, that should be possible, especially when talking to camera and moving, it should at least be able to track the face in low light. I wish it was waterproof like the action cameras and perhaps the osmo pocket 4 will be? I think the free Lut that DJI provide for it if you're shooting in Dlog M is FANTASTIC and I don't think it gets enough praise, especially if looking for that 'cinematic' look, it works brilliantly well. But in all honesty, auto mode pretty much does everything most people want. Once a bit a more experienced, get some ND filters and play around with the settings etc then. My only bug bear with this brilliant little camera is the focus it often does, where it doesn't know what to focus on resulting in that pulsating footage. That's annoying and could be better. Otherwise, awesome camera and way ahead of many cameras three times the price. Thanks! (Looked like Kilkenny you were driving around in but don't think it was)
@VicBarry5 күн бұрын
Hey. Thanks for the comment. Yeah. Sometime like this will never be waterproof. Very different “audience” I feel. Weather sealed might be an option at some point. Yeah. The nd filters are a must (few vids around them on my channel) but depends on what you’re doing. Some folks may not ever need them or won’t want to use them. Defintely not Kilkenny 😉

*Hi Vic ! 😀You can even adjust the automatic follow speed to slow, and you will obtain a "less abrupt" tracking, whereby the OP3 will track and move to follow in a slightly less deliberate, smoother, more graceful manner. 👍*

It is a superb camera, Vic! I've had mine for almost a year now. Just used it in Japan. DJI should give you a spare, just for all the great things you've shown us, and said about the camera! I was wondering... Do you use the sharpness feature on the camera, or when you edit? I have been using it in Final Cut (at the first sharpness setting of 2.5) and now I'm thinking I shouldn't use the sharpness on the camera or when processing in Final Cut. Your videos (as well as some other reviewer's videos) look so warm and cinematic, which I suspect is because you're not overdoing the sharpness thing. Also, on a closeup of your Pocket 3 screen in this video, I think it displayed EV of -0.03. Does it do that automatically in the 'Auto' mode? Thank you! Oh! Almost forgot! For extra zoom, I bought a Sony RX100 VII, which I wouldn't dare think of walking with, or fussing about with a gimbal. I will only use it standing very still to zoom in on something far away when needed, and for a bit of photography and panning (VERY SLOWLY!) with zoom.
@VicBarry3 күн бұрын
Hey Joe 🤣 - I generally keep the sharpness as low as it will go in camera as I find it looks too digital. If it needs a touch up I’ll do it in post. Hmmm can’t remember but usually the EV option is just in auto iso.
@JoeSzilagy3 күн бұрын
@@VicBarry Thanks very much Vic! I used to think 'the sharper the better', but I don't think that so much now. In fact, I've even seen a few videos where some people are intentionally using 1080p in their 4K cameras instead of 4K! Also, I see you are using 30p. I've often heard that 24p is the most cinematic-looking yet (whenever I look at comparison videos) I honestly can't detect any difference! I think I'll switch back to 30p myself! Anyway, I can't even begin to imagine how on earth DJI can top the Pocket 3 with whatever comes next!
@VicBarry3 күн бұрын
@JoeSzilagy that’s the worse use case for 1080p I’ve ever heard 🤣 - sharpness is more of a setting than a resolution. As for the 24p it’s to do with motion blur predominately. You’ll definitely get “some” in 30p though. All that said, depending on the content you’re making, the average joe soap couldn’t care less.

There is zero difference in quality. But some of the faster modes like 4k60 / 120 etc may not work on slower (also generally cheaper) SD cards but always worth checking before hand.

I returned mine because it's not good for shooting tech which the channel I run on a different account. The barrel distortion of 20mm isn't ideal and I found that in studio lights and in medium light it couldn't keep up. So I just stuck with carrying around my full frame camera. I did love it for vlog style content though.

I like to relive adventures in the edit, not spoil them fiddling with camera settings when out and about. I don’t want to be stuck in cameras when I’m out there. That shortens my time out there in the adventure. I don’t mind tinkering later because that extends the adventure catching all the little things i maybe missed first time around. Maybe this is the way to go for me. Thanks for the review. Enjoy your stuff. Love hearing locally relevant advice and of course in the accent of our island💪
@VicBarry22 сағат бұрын
Hey Robin, cheers for the follow up. Totally get that, granted in most cases many people won't notice the difference. I guess from my perspective, it's almost muscle memory at this stage and it's just something "I do" when it comes to manual settings. Regardless, will the audience care? Will they notice the difference? Chances are they'll notice things that are going to take them out of the story, and if settings or lack of settings is causing a jarring effect, then it's an issue. That's all that really matters, as long as the audience enjoys the content / story telling then that's the priority!
@VISTATREKKER21 сағат бұрын
@ good advice and priorities. I went on to watch one of the bigger Sony cameras you did after this and for what you are doing here this camera was just an easier watch. I also have to factor in an experience deficit😄 when I’ve got time to think I can sometimes cover that up but in the rush to catch a moment it’ll show up guaranteed. Then the moment is missed.

Really? You'll always get some (there's a bit in mine) as this gimbal doesn't stablize all axis, try creating a few more pivot points in your arm etc - If it's really bad up and down, it's hard to say if it's a gimbal issue or not. So not sure.
