@mls_words_of_wisdom4 жыл бұрын
Oh Em Gee! I laughed out loud and can totally relate to almost everything he said except about the Scottish situation at the end. I was just telling the daughter the other day that I don’t want to go away on vacation because something will go wrong in the house and I’ll be all stressed out and it will ruin the vacation! Ain’t that the truth!

Vic, look into purchasing a Generac house generator. When the power goes off, it turns on automatically. It's wired right into you electrical panel and keeps you from any worries home or away. They make them to run off of propane too. You'll have to research if they have a serge protectors to keep electrical shit safe. I don't know about that?

I would live in Scotland if I had a different life. It's beautiful. The pubs are welcoming. The people are welcoming (depending on where you live). They're what my mom would've called real people. Congrats on the visit!

Wondering why the cat sitter didn't remove the food. During Hurricane Sandy, a couple of friends called me to get the key and throw everything out before it could rot. Anyway, sorry you went through that. Centipede, LOL!! These times make me want to be back in Ralph Kramden's kitchen. No phone, no TV...nothing to reset. It was easier.

So to summarize: crickets, centipedes cats, turkey burgers, exploding tunas, Mrs. Howell and a tour in Vietnam. At least there were no roaches from the power outage.

We unplug all the appliances as part of our vacation shut down, including WiFi and unplug everything that can be unplugged. But of course you cant unplug the fridge. That was truly a horror to come home to after such a long flight from Scotland. I would have been raging as well. Im still thinking how brave you were for just traveling on a plane where the air is just recirculating the same stale air for hours to get to Scotland during this virus. You are truly great parents.

Back in my parents days, stove and ovens actually had a fuse bank, that housed socket fuses that protect each heating element and function on the stove, in case of something like that happen, if it was a gas stove, then it probably had three or four fuses, that protected the glowplugs for the oven hot surface ignition, and the spark for the stove top eyes, plus one for the clock/timer which was a mechanically operated analog timer with a vibratory buzzer back in those days then a digital one.

Looks like you'll be buying a generator and some gasoline ! ?
@whocares06924 жыл бұрын
Don't buy a portable generator. If your electricity goes out for more than a day, the lines at the gas station will be long. I purchased a Generac home generator after the 2003 black out. I was out for 4 days. $ 6000 later, I purchased mine. Power has gone out 4 times and each time, my generator kicked on and ran until the power was reconnected. The generator is powered by natural gas or propane. But it's work it.
