I was stationed in Germany during the entire 1980s. I was a Tank commander in the 1st of the 1st Cavalry Regiment. I visited Amsterdam a couple of times in a rented high powered BMW. The Autobahn is sick!!! Traveling at speeds about 120 mph! When you're a 23 year old American driving a luxury high horsepower automobile, heading towards a country famous for selling pot right in a coffee shop that's connected with a bar or nightclub, life is fabulous!! And the border guards were shutdown due to the Berlin Wall destruction. I was present at that incredible event back in 1989.
@simonh63716 ай бұрын
The border NL/Germany wasn't shut down until the Schengen agreement took effect, in 1995. Nothing to do with the fall of the wall, that was the old inner German border, nowhere near the Netherlands. I was stationed in the British Army in Germany 1991-93 and you always had to stop at the border then. However once in 1992 I walked through a residential street straddling the border, in an Aachen suburb, the street bypassed the border cabin on the main road. There were other little backroads where there wasn't a permanent checkpoint too but there were Zoll (customs) patrols there.

I was born and raised in Belgium, the country next to the Netherlands, and worked with Dutch coffeeshops as a supplier (illegally). The whole "gedoogd" system they've got going doesn't do anything but invite criminality into a business that could otherwise be fully taxed and legislated. One of the guys I worked with had a grenade thrown into his coffeeshop because he wouldn't bend under the will of criminal gangs trying to muscle in. Legalise ALL drugs, let the government do what they love and profit off it, and GET PEOPLE THE HELP THEY FUCKING NEED. Nobody would be strung out on H/coke if they had a good quality of life.

Lets be honest, weed would not be legal in most of the places it is, if the local and state governments didn't tax it. For decades that has been the pitch to lawmakers, "legalize weed and tax it like alcohol and the state will have more money to treat addiction to hard drugs and tthe blackmarket for weed will shrivel up". We were saying this in the 70s and it's taken this long to achieve it. Maybe in the future things will loosen up more. @@MrBobbo18the consumer can always take the time to meet and establish relationships with growers. If you want good quality, clean products, there are other options aside from just paying the government to "help".
@sgeertt47246 ай бұрын
@@MrBobbo18 a system built on trust between local people will always get you better quality, organic, unsprayed flower. Knowing the guy who grows it and buying it from him is better than buying it from a corporation that has no personal liability if you die smoking their products. Regulation are meant to keep buds safe to smoke, yet the current market in california has hundreds of banned chemicals being found in massive quantities in their on the shelf "legal" products. Licenses only mean that a few companies can afford to grow. and when they reap the benefits of monopoly then they can simply pay off the fines for the damages theyve caused. Look at johnson and johnson and other large companies that have hurt the population in the past and all they had to do was pay a fine to the govt. which is no punishment at all for huge business. The only way to get organic products is to either grow them yourself organically, or to be the client of a good organic grower that doesnt use shortcuts, pesticides, or any hormones to thicken things up.
@helloneighbor116 ай бұрын
@@MrBobbo18synthetic fertilizer doesn't instantly make a bad product. Just like much of the food we eat is grown using synthetic fertilizer. While I prefer going organic whenever possibly in most cases the plant doesn't know the difference. Hydroponic growing is popular everywhere and it's almost always using synthetic.

I am Dutch, often visit Amsterdam, and occasionally smoke a joint myself. But honestly, compared to US laws, our laws are actually even weirder. Weed is illegal here, believe it or not! But the point is that the (coffeeshop) sale is legal, the use is legal, but possession is actually illegal. Even if you only have a gram, the police will take it but the point is that it's "gedoogd" which means tolerated. So, they will take it from you and it's still illegal to have it on you, but if it's less than 5 grams you won't get in trouble, no fine, no jailtime and no charges.

I live in Texas. My friend was parked with his girlfriend, but they were NOT smoking. They were eating their fast food supper at night with the windows rolled down. They had weed in the car and out of sight, but it was NOT in the dashboard, so NO search warrant required. A cop pulled up and got into their business. The cop asked, "Do you have any substances or illegal drugs on you?" My friend answered, "Yes." He was SCARED TO LIE TO A COP. The cop immediately ARRESTED them both and they went to JAIL for the night. 🐖🐷🐽🚨🪴🚬His family hired a good defense lawyer and he got off for a 1st time offense. Now he's learned to vape 💨 at home. No more going out with it. 🙅🏻♂️ #LegalizeInTexas ✌🏻☮️
