To build a high rise apartment building and not provide adequate fire services such as fire chemical repellent, fire escapes, and evacuation plans is an obvious disregard for human life. 60's high-rise is typically exceptional at containing fires to one property for a pretty reasonable amount of time. The advice to stay in the flat and wait for help, in any other instance is the correct advice. No one could have expected the fire to spread the way it did due to the illegal cladding. The buildings are designed to prevent fires like this spreading, but all of that was made useless due to the cladding. I'd like to point out that if anyone's to blame, it is 100% not the fire bigrade or 999 operators.

What is really sad is that in Melbourne, Australia we knew about this flammable cladding. The fire department warned about it. But construction companies still kept adding it to buildings. Only after Grenfell did the government insist that all the flammable cladding is removed... unfortunately, as the expense of home owners (not the people who built or designed these structures). This reminded me to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy in South Korea. This ferry suddenly tilted and began to sink. The captain told them to stay still and not move from where they were… Only those who disobeyed the orders lived, the rest unfortunately died… The worst part of it was the fact that this ferry was carrying students who were returning from a field trip…

People should really stop shaming the victims for staying put - they were told to. In some cases there was too much fire or smoke outside their doors to make it out. They were told to stay put because the building should have been able to contain the fire - the stay put policy had worked for previous fires but this building was built with cladding that was not fireproof and so the fire spread too quickly and climbed 20 floors. People were trapped with nothing but fire below them. Told to stay put because thats what the experts hoped would save them as historically it worked. This time it did not. Also could the Americans being ignorant or turning this into 9/11 shite kindly piss off. Thank you.

I remember seeing this on the news and felt sick knowing I couldn't do anything to help these poor people outside of donations. Scotland in response to this has made a new legislation that started from February this year that all households *must* have linked smoke and heat alarms. I strongly advise you to do the same for yourself and loved ones. For what it's worth, my utmost sincere condolences to all who lost loved ones that day 5 years ago. And thank you to the emergency services who tried their best to save so many lives.
