@@aus-li actually I do often cry when I hear of those other awful things as well. Not always of course but I don’t think crying while witnessing multiple families in pain is anything out of the norm. Lack of oxygen more than likely killed hyphen cause fire eats it before ur lungs can get any. Or just be asphyxiated by breathing non O2 gases. Fire almost never kills the victims, that’s just your fears making it the scariest possible event. Theoretically it’s a painless death. Unless someone were to hold their breath and run into the fire, and again u can’t even see because of the smoke. It’s an event that is nothing what your imagination thinks it will be. Buildings like these need to be outlawed. I totally understand the need for housing as my daughter and I have been homeless due to the constantly rising prices of rentals. To build a high rise apartment building and not provide adequate fire services such as fire chemical repellent, fire escapes, and evacuation plans is an obvious disregard for human life. These buildings were built so high that even a ladder truck couldn’t have reached to the top. No building should be higher than rescue resources! My condolences to the family’s.

60's high-rise is typically exceptional at containing fires to one property for a pretty reasonable amount of time. There have been many many fires in multiple areas of tower blocks and usually never result to something like this. As already stated, poor redevelopment to a pre-existing building has caused this and was not to be expected. It takes a tragedy for action to be taken in most cases and unfortunately that's what we have seen occur here.

The advice to stay in the flat and wait for help, in any other instance is the correct advice. No one could have expected the fire to spread the way it did due to the illegal cladding. The buildings are designed to prevent fires like this spreading, but all of that was made useless due to the cladding. What is really sad is that in Melbourne, Australia we knew about this flammable cladding. The fire department warned about it. But construction companies still kept adding it to buildings. Only after Grenfell did the government insist that all the flammable cladding is removed... unfortunately, as the expense of home owners (not the people who built or designed these structures). People should really stop shaming the victims for staying put - they were told to. In some cases there was too much fire or smoke outside their doors to make it out. They were told to stay put because the building should have been able to contain the fire - the stay put policy had worked for previous fires but this building was built with cladding that was not fireproof and so the fire spread too quickly and climbed 20 floors. People were trapped with nothing but fire below them. Told to stay put because thats what the experts hoped would save them as historically it worked. This time it did not. Also could the Americans being ignorant or turning this into 9/11 shite kindly piss off. Thank you.

My respects to all the families and loved ones lost in this horrific tragedy. How something like this can happen in a first world country like England I have no idea... Wait, it happened in project housing? In London? Ah, that explains it. The negligence in a case like this is abhorrent!

The fire spread 20 floors in 36 min??? Wow. That is absolutely horrible. Worst way imaginable to die. R.I.P to the 72 people who perished.

Exclusively showing source material with out providing the viewers with any explanation as to why or how the fire happened or how the UK is responding to it. To top it all off Vice decides to make this video 3 years after the incident happened. Yep. Quality content.

This is disgusting. THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY, 72 seconds for 72 lives. people who lived and laughed and cried and slept and had dreams, down to just one second, not even a single piece of justice for anyone here.

Yet there’s still many apartments and office blocks with flammable cladding

Today as of posting this comment is the 5th anniversary of the Grenfell fire. I remember seeing this on the news and felt sick knowing I couldn't do anything to help these poor people outside of donations. Scotland in response to this has made a new legislation that started from February this year that all households *must* have linked smoke and heat alarms. I strongly advise you to do the same for yourself and loved ones. For what it's worth, my utmost sincere condolences to all who lost loved ones that day 5 years ago. And thank you to the emergency services who tried their best to save so many lives.
