"History clearly reveals that the old Tibet was not the Shangri-La that many imagine", he wrote "but a society under a system of feudal serfdom." Until 1959, when China cracked down on Tibetan rebels and the Dalai Lama fled to northern India, around 98% of the population was enslaved in serfdom. Drepung monastery, on the outskirts of Lhasa, was one of the world's largest landowners with 185 manors, 25,000 serfs, 300 pastures, and 16,000 herdsmen. High-ranking lamas and secular landowners imposed crippling taxes, forced boys into monastic slavery and pilfered most of the country's wealth - torturing disobedient serfs by gouging out their eyes or severing their hamstrings. Tashi Tsering, now an English professor at Lhasa University is representative of Tibetans that do not see China's occupation as worse tyranny. He was taken from his family near Drepung at 13 and forced into the Dalai Lama's personal dance troupe. Beaten by his teachers, Tsering put up with rape by a well-connected monk in exchange for protection. In his autobiography, The Struggle for Modern Tibet, Tsering writes that China brought long-awaited hope when is laid claim to Tibet in 1950. After studying at the University of Washington, Tsering returned to Chinese-occupied Tibet in 1964, convinced that the country could modernise effectively by cooperating with the Chinese. Denounced during the Cultural Revolution, arrested in 1967 to spend six years in prison and labour camps, he still maintains that Mao Tse-Tung liberated his people. Continue reading here. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2009/feb/10/tibet-china-feudalism And this The Dalai Lama's impressive salary Conspiracy: The Dalai Lama is a CIA agent. The truth: Perhaps the reason the Dalai Lama is smiling in all those photos has something to do with the six-figure salary he pulled down from the U.S. government during the 1960s. According to declassified intelligence documents, he earned $180,000 in connection with the CIA's funding of the Tibetan Resistance to the tune of $1.7 million per year. The idea was to disrupt and hamper China's infrastructure. Source www.rd.com/culture/conspiracy-theories-that-turned-out-to-be-true/

We support Tsundue la. Freedom of Tibet is in every Tibetan's heart whether she/he is living in Tibet or outside. However today there is a powerful treacherous force in the exile community that actively works to silence the Tibetans from saying what is actually in their heart. Forcing Tibetans to say what a few thinks is the right is not democracy. Tibet may not be free for another century but demand for a free Tibet should never change or die. Charismatic leaders will come and go but Tibetans should never confuse Tibet with a leader. If you look at the geopolitics of today, the wind of change is coming definitely. Tibetans need to be alert and seize the opportunity. Policies of appeasement and prayers will never work.

Your country deserves more recognition! You're the pretty face of China which they use to sell their stuff! Like in car culture, pininfarina makes the bodies of the cars of Ferrari but people think that Ferrari makes them (where Ferrari only makes the mechanical bits only).

@@rochakbhargava7654 The indigenous (tribal people) became minority in Tripura. We are now 30% and the refugees from Bangladesh became 70%. And we have to now protest about our land to save our existence. (You can watch videos on youtube of our Maharaja Pradyut Manikya) he said lots of things about what's happening in Tripura. And we are suffering lots of problems in our state. And, thank you sir 🙏🏽 for replying.
