You've got my vote for putting a 12v in the AMC. I used to never understand the appeal of diesels until I spent more time around them. The 6bt is an absolute anvil that can make some ridiculous power and never let you down. I don't much care for the newer ecm controlled units because I feel it adds complexity to the greatest part of a diesel, they are super simple, reliable, and make great power and still get incredible mileage. We had our "good cars" we would drive April/may- November. Then, we would buy a $3-400 POS to drive all winter. At the end, we would drive them all to the junk yard. One friend drained all his oil and drove his 79 Duster 15 miles in 1st gear. 6:18 Oooh that rig's a standard shift. Just what a guy needs! Keep it, fix it up, it will pay for itself in two or three videos! Edit: 7:20 might wanna put the most durable 4-speed back in it though.

Love the Chevy bend on the "new" ramp truck. We used to have to deal with that all the time in the 1970s and early 1980s until GM came out with a repair kit. That bend means it's an authentic old-timer! Great job as usual, Derek. Glad you decided to shut 'er down and not to commit suicide in the car. We need you!

Just one more thing to remind me how much I love rural America. I spend a lot of time in the city for work and it sometimes makes me Jaded. Then I return home and see my friends or meet cool new people and my spirits are lifted.

I have a cat that keeps killing & bringing mice to the front door. I think my response to them is a lot like Jessica when Derek brings home something like these two or the El Camino.

Well, these two episodes have been far more Roadkill than any Roadkill I can remember. I laugh at the guys and you for the stuff you drive, but until the Rebel I wasn't just shaking my head and saying to myself "I would never get in that death trap".

you nailed it, Gary. they are a special family & have fostered an amazing community worthy of their own regard. I’m selfishly happy that Derek is beating it up & down I-75 in my home state, so I can hopefully catch him/them in the act, doing what VGG does. they’ll be easy for me to spot out here.

Three things I found phenomenal about the ramp truck - the brakes worked, the windshield wipers worked and the winch worked! Nice job...the rest of the issues are to be expected, right? Well done herding those two home.

My favorite take on this video was the comparison between this trip and the one where you brought your family Buick home under similar circumstances. How you handle each situation is what makes Derek so, well, DEREK! I hope that your family's fortunes just continue to grow because you guys earn every bit of it! Hugs from me to all of you.

"That's fine!" when things are bad, really bad, but nobody is going to get hurt, is an expression more people should start to use! It keeps the temp and the pressure at a level where the engine will last a lot longer, without too many parts in need of replacement! 🥰
@xNobodyOfConsequenceX3 жыл бұрын
I've become accustomed to using the phrase "Well, that happened" when things go pear-shaped in just about any way. Even when I cut off the tip of my finger at work I told my coworker "Well, that happened; I just cut my finger." When he asked if it was bad I just told him "it ain't good."
@pirakoXX3 жыл бұрын
@@xNobodyOfConsequenceX Wow, thank you so much for sharing! I'm new at wood working, and hope I'll keep all 10 fingertips... My cousin lost a tip of one of his fingers on one of the machines at their farm when he was about 9-10 years old. When he came back to school, he was the hero of the day! And of course, they all wanted to know how it happened. He took some friends, living on nearby farms, home and showed them. But because of the bandage, he used another finger ... And he's still alive, has had his own farm for decades, and doing fine missing the tips of 2 fingers ... I'm not kidding! Stay safe and creative. All my best wishes for 2022 👍

Just another great vid from Dereck. Currently punting a decrepit '67 Fairlane around in Peru, and I find myself uttering Dereckisms like "That's fine!", "Waaaay too much... perfect!", and "Bring the thunder!" Thank you sir for your excellent outlook, automotive wisdom you so good-naturedly bash into our heads every episode, and CLEAN HUMOR. It's a rarity!

I have to confess. I had an old dodge extended van back in my flooring installation days, and painted it one day with foam rollers and foam brushes. I helped a friend paint at night , and he helped me do floors in the day. the van was white but peeling and looking like hell. we painted it like a rental unit. lol. we hit it with the putty knives and scraped off lose paint and put some leftover high gloss oil base white on it . trimmed in everything with just trim guides and 8 beers and a few joints later, it looked awesome. even when sober. and no over spray.

There's a reason why the engine has its own compartment. I recommend putting the engine back where it belongs and making the driving/passenger compartment normal or kind of normal. Excellent video, had a roller coaster of emotions from OMG to Thank Goodness and LOL .. Loved watching.

Jessica has a couple of new cars. She looks so happy. Love is love, if dragging home the weirdest vehicles the 4 corners of the country have to offer to please your wife is what it takes, your love is pure. How good really is the body on that rebel? if its as solid/neat as it looks it should be in the restoration shop and back to std. If you need a ramp truck and a 350-350 combo works, go with that. If you need a ramp truck and you need more and will get the use out of it, do that, otherwise find another one ton and plan out a conversion on it as your dedicated hauler.
