My Lumberghini blew up on me, leaving me stranded in North Eastern TN. I bought an old truck off the line sight unseen that was last registered for the road 37 years ago, and plan on driving it home 250 miles!

This old truck is one of my favorites you've ever had on the channel. I love it when a rig shows how hard folks have worked to keep it going, and this one is hodge podged together so much it's almost comical. That said, I'd keep it around just because it's a long bed stepside. I also love that it's basically a continuation of the Lumborghini saga! Makes a fitting end, and brings some much needed positivity to that trainwreck.

I've got a '70 step-side long bed C10, inline 6 with Sniper EFI, lump port kit, 1.95/1.60 valves, long tube headers, three on the tree, and not a speck of rust on it. The exhaust is turned out in front of the left rear wheel, and it's LOUD. It's not cool loud, it's obnoxious loud. Sounds nice when it's idling, but you get it up to 2000 RPM and it drones and you need earplugs. I really need to get around to fixing that. It needs a new speaker for the AM radio to make it complete, and a bit more aggressive cam to take advantage of the lump kit and oversize valves.

Keep this as a goin' to town rig. Fix small things that need done to keep it running. Don't bother fixing rust or anything big. Tires, wheel bearing, etc. The largest thing to do to it is change the rear main seal. Other than that enjoy it's aged glory and drive on.

Yikes.... there's something wrong there. All the 250c.i. I-6 trucks that I've had went much faster than 55...😬 In all reality, it only takes roughly 30 or so horsepower for one of these trucks to be able to maintain 55mph on the highway. My Buick Lacrosse takes 35h.p. to maintain 75mph... 🤷

My first revival was inspired in part to the early Blazer episode & was my dad's '81 350 C20 cattle-hauler identical to this. Never quite became a goin-to town rig yet rigorously laid down ~64mi/day with its stock driveline and rotating assembly. She stood out like a baby-blue rusted gem among parking lots full of new compacts and suvs.

Big Kudos to the folks who helped out, loaded and hauled the Lumberghini back to the shop and also to Volunteer for lending their talents in making the exhaust safer for Derek to make it home, the truck was a lucky find, had a Chevy Nova once with the 250 engine, ran all right, not a tire burner, but decently reliable, eventually traded it for a retired cop car, good upgrade. Wanna see more of that truck though, tires, engine swap, another budget build, Thanks again to Derek for the new content and looking forward to many more shows.

My brother owned this exact truck, a 1979 he got in 1982, except a 305 and automatic, and had a paint-matching topper on it. First vehicle I ever drove. He took me to get my permit, and on the way home, he pulled over and said "you drive." So, I drove the last few miles home. We had some great adventures in that truck. The long bed was perfect, too, for full 4x8 sheets of plywood and drywall.

I worked at a plumbing company in the 1990's that had a 26,000 mile old 1976 1 ton GMC dually -complete with service bed with a 292 Straight six - with automatic. Some older plumber had purchased when he retired and didn't drive it much to say the least. I found out why, to say it was slow would be an understatement. I still remember merging onto I-465 in Indianapolis, you would hit the gas as soon as I turned, hoping by the end of the merge lane I was within - 20 to traffic speed.

You can lock that transmission into 1st and 3rd gear at the same time for added security when you park! Works even better when you have the original three in the tree shifter and the linkage is loose.

Awesome to hear the strangers that helped a guy make it through his trip. I'd say do a few things to the truck. I've only seen one other like that truck. Be interesting to see it with decent tires, floor in the bed, and a proper floor shifter.

I would keep the 6 cylinder myself. Only thing I would do to it is find a conventional head before the rebuild. The integrated head is nictorius for cracking when taking them off of the block.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed or the biggest gear head in my family, but watching your videos has really inspired me to fix some of my grandpas old cars. Matter of fact just 2 days ago I got my grandmas 57' Chevy bel air on the road after sitting 5+ years! And as of today I've put 60 miles on it. Just wanted to say your vids are great and thank you for the inspiration VGG!

That's a great truck with a lot of potential. Hopefully, you'll find the time to do a bit of a reliability rebuild on it and put it to good use on your property. I'm not a Chevy guy but that's the perfect beat-around truck to have around for whatever dirty jobs need doing.

I'd see about fixing up a column shifter, some other rust "fix" or stiffening up. Make it a user / driver and either use it or pass it on to someone who will. Neat old rig.

I'm just thrilled whenever I see you or the guys on Roadkill get a vehicle that doesn't have overheating issues. Curious if you're going to fix the lumborghini or get rid of it immediately.

The last time I encountered bias ply alongside radials on a vehicle I was in my wife's uncle's car (80's Catalina) doing 70mph down a dirt road in Kansas in the dark after a Kansas wedding where alcohol flowed like the Arkansas river. I was in fear for my life! Love this channel (i am a newbie here) wish I had found VGG a long time ago!

I love that truck! I know exactly that "two stick" shifting. We had a '71 International truck, 258 6 cyl/ 3 on the tree. The column shifter broke, so we put a length of oilfield sucker rod on each shift lever, ran them through the floor, and put a fooseball on the end of each of them - for safety, and ran like that for ever. Exhaust fumes came up through the floor, though, and we never fixed that. A poor man has poor ways!

Wow! that left front tire is a recap! From the 60's or 70'S!! I haven't seen one of those since, well since the 70's! They started being used in WWII so the rubber could be given over to the war effort. Thanks for bringing back that memory.
