(what a struggle this one was!!) A guy needed a reliable, sturdy pickup for the property, so I bought this chevy truck that's been off the road for 12 years. v8, 4 speed sm465, and a np208 transfer case, what a beast! I'm going to attempt to get it running and drive it home 60 miles!

One of my favorite episodes ever! At first I was thinking Chevy graveyard but it is more like Chevy purgatory, trucks waiting for salvation. That landscape isn't for everyone, for me it's breathtaking. When driving west on 94 the land starts to open up just north of Fergus Falls, MN and becomes utterly flat as you approach Fargo. Then near Valley City the gentle rolling hills begin. You can practically see forever out there. One special thing is to be able to see an entire storm system in the distance. Watching a thunderstorm approach is awesome.

Pure enjoyment all the way through. And if a feller gets annoyed while wrenching, watching an epsiode of VGG really gives you a reset and once you get back at it you are more relaxed and enjoy it. I'm sure Derek knows this routine quite well, but for the folks who've never experienced it yet.. Those old, worn out Chevy 305's will run a LONG time on not much oil pissies. When their all clapped out, have huge bearing clearances, no compression, and make a total of 53h.p., the ole 305 will survive for quite a long time on single digit oil pissies. Put some black tape over the idiot light, or guage, and fuhgeddaboudit. Keep on rollin..

With electric at the point it is now is not practical as a replacement for fossil fuel vehicles. Electric is very efficient for mass transit with an external power source, but batteries present a major challenge and the electric grid is already at capacity and can’t handle the demand total electric would create and much of the electric is created with fossil canceling out the supposed benefits of electric along with the new environmental hazards the batteries present.

Does show just how skookum these old american V8s truly are, though. A modern engine that wore out just plumb ain't gonna run anymore. This SBC more or less still got a guy home.

24 years ago I bought a front wheel drive v8 cadillac. I believe it was an 83! Tore out that boat anchor and threw in a built 350 Olds rocket, with an rv cam. Got it all together and running to find out the transmission was garbage. 4 months later after removal, rebuild and install I had a beast of a car. It took snow better than any 4x4 I ever had.

@@jorgyr36 You are correct. After we retired my wife and I travelled to Canada and purchased an old long forgotten Winnebago Minnie Winnie. Fixed it up best we could , furnace, freezer, bathroom all working eventually. Six cheap tyres, fitted it out from thrift shops. Spent just over a year travelling the roads of America, mostly old gravel backroads . Spent Fourth of July in Stanley North Dakota actually, really great friendly people. We had read in England about the Whirla Whip Ice cream there, so drove over for one, honest !. Had one of the best times of our lives. The Rockies, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Mesa Arizona. Almost full length Highway 101 , many side trips as folks invited us to join them. San Francisco, Yuma, . Two months with the snowbirds, day trips just into Mexico as guests of the snowbirds who looked after us so well. Xmas on Ocatillo Flats, I think it was. Houston Space Centre. Slowly across towards the East, but our Visas were running out so we headed North along the Natchez trace, innocents !. Got caught in some kind of a storm near Nashville, everyone else pulled of the camping ground about 2 am, no one old us !. It was rough and scary for a while there, now part of our adventure. Eventually back into Canada and the flight home. Rich folks ?, no way, farm workers kids and just many ordinary jobs until we retired. Camped free most of the time, or cheap, others showed us where and how. So many people, so many places, so many great memories, so much kindness. Those roads are there, just take them, doesn't have to be a million dollar travelling castle. We paid 6000 dollars for the Winnebago, a few thousand as we went along fixing things that broke, sold it in Canada for 3,000. Biggest expense, not having any income at all. Spent a good slice of our life savings, best money ever spent we still think. Go for it, drive the roads, see more of your fantastic country, meet the people. Thank you Everyone Brian and Nora Williamson

This is a great video as are all of yours! Having worked at several coops many years ago, I am shocked that an old soil testing pickup is even in one piece! Don't look at the frame, it has probably been welded back together numerous times. Also, that new power steering line is probably because of the soil probe being removed. Most were hydraulic that were run off of the power steering pump. Keep up the great work!!

My X Father in law and I got trapped way out of town one early morning with a busted fuel pump. After trying just about everything I got the idea of pressurizing the gas tank with my portable 12 volt air compressor. So we wadded up a garbage bag around the air line and forced it into the filler tube for the gas tank of the truck. I let the compressor run until I heard the gas tank expand and cranked over the truck engine. Imagine my surprize when the truck started right up and ran like a champ! Got us the 18 miles to home with no problem!😊

So you grew up in Stanley. My wife goes to Williston for a special eye doctor. Dad was born at Heaton, west of Carrington. Dad uncle had a huge barn on the south side of the highway, where you could originally drive a team & hay wagon into the second floor, turn it around, unload it, do it all over again. I do not remember his first name, last name was Miller. Grandma brother built the barn into the side hill. Hello from north east Montana. 10 miles from the Canadian border. 115 miles from the North Dakota border.

And I now know EXACTLY where the bigger Honey Spot is! :D
