Wait till you remember that a deaf customer can often be turned down at a McDonald's and 99% of restaurants and puplic establisments (and even some official/government run places) don't have, staff, signage or measures to assure that deaf and blind customers are welcome or can even do business there. My mom is basically all blind and her hearing loss is bad even with aids. I have been forced to be her personal assistant since I could walk and know about her conditions more than my father does -which should be very appaling. I personally don't know much FSL, because I chose not to learn and this has worked for us 15+ years. Never once have we been to a restaurant or bookstore that had been made atleast accessible for disabled people. When we get fast food, I need to sometimes repeat what the staff said because they simply are never trained for deaf or blind people. Most people usually think of when making their business "accessible" for disabled people is just wheelchair users. Personally I will actually try and get that braille menu, invest in staff training for different disabilities (blindness, deafness, wheelchair whatever it takes) and will actually try make the layout one that will work for _everyone_ . It's crazy how most of my classes at this moment would never be equipped enough for someone that is blind or deaf. I mean I have given feedback to several of my teachers and they all agree. I also have had to explain multiple times that my mom can't sit at the top of the auditorium, she needs to be at the front and that she has to actually stragetise where she sits so she can still hear. The normal John Smith will never think of these things. When they do get a small snippet into the life of a disabled family, they get schocked to their bones. At the end of the week that John Smith has forgotted about it all.

As someone who is an ally in the Deaf community this was something I was curious with how the schools were doing when it came to teach their Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. It is interesting to see how one of the state school's for the Deaf is handling with this situation. I know with the state school for Texas and for the school districts with a Deaf Ed. program they are now back in person and that I hope that the students are doing well going back to school inperson. But I do also hope that they allow the students to have the option to still be in remote learning.
