Anti-Islamist Riots in Germany: Hooligans Against Salafists

Demonstrations held by the far-right group Hooligans against Salafists - also known as HoGeSa - have recently gained momentum in Germany, as they organize marches in cities across the country. While the group claims to be protesting against Islamist extremism, the movement is widely accused of harnessing Islamophobia as a means of spreading racism.
VICE News followed the Hooligans against Salafists movement from its first full-blown demonstration-turned-riot in Cologne, which was attended by 4,800 people. We also met with Islamic campaigner Sven Lau, who recently rose to infamy by starting a “Sharia Police,” and has consequently been used as a prominent example of the “Islamic invasion” of Germany by the HoGeSa movement.

Your attitude is very measured and very admirable. But In reality integrating all these Muslims is much easier said then done. And like in England many Muslims just see themselves as Muslims who just happen to live in England, who have no allegiance to my great country, many of them would rather fight our armed forces abroad. Alot of muslim men have also raped and taken advantage of young English school girls, especially in Northern England were in live. Merkel let far to many refugees into Germany far to soon, rather than slowly integrating them over a long period. That policy mistake has caused alot of resentment in Germany and Merkel was forced to reverse that failed policy. It will be very interesting to see how all this develops over the coming years.

We have taken warzone country refugees in before into our other houses, we don't even charge them rent. My grandmother is currently allowing a mother and her two sons (who's dad died via cross fire) to live in her house until they manage to get a proper life set up for themselves. You can't generalize refugees. Most of them just want to escape chaos and war, the last thing they want is to wage war.

He doesn't say anything about it indeed - he asks a follow up question and then it cuts back to the protest - but that doesn't necessarily mean he agrees with it as well. While Vice does noticeably lean left, I think this specific instance has nothing to do with it. I can't imagine a scenario in which that segment could be painted in a good light.

Pablo Escobar I agree the term "Nazi" is used way too often. People use it, though, because they feel the need to call out the rise and normalization of (cultural) racism in our everyday lives. Just because you feel repressed by an unwritten code to prevent offending your opposite (='political correctness') doesn't mean you should cross the line of moral. This goes for everyone, in my opinion, including the nazi-callers (although racism is definitely worse than calling people nazis).
