Tyler the Creator disagrees with you as do many other artists. www.digitalmusicnews.com/2020/01/27/tyler-the-creator-grammy-urban-rap-n-word/ The part about race was not at all a critique of Post or his music. It was a critique of the Recording academy and Radio industry that controls what gets played. They can absolutely claim partial responsibility for his popularity as well as anyone who's ever been in the top 20. Their point was that categorizing certain artists as "pop" vs. "rap" immediately changes how many people are going to hear that artist and how much money they'll make. This video was about WHY he is popular. It doesn't matter how good a song is. If its played in the top 20, there were other reasons for its success. That's true for the Weeknd, Eminem, John Mayer or any other artist I've loved listening to. Are they biased based on race? Hard to say, but you could certainly make a case for it.

Vice is becoming so sad. Triggered because some white guy is successful in rap music. Now they gotta lower themselves to the level of haters. They have all these fancy ways to try and explain how his music is repetitive or simplistic in their opinion, but if it takes no talent to do what he does, then anyone can do it. If anyone can do it and be successful, then how come he's one of the few? Is there a lack of people in the world trying to make it as a musical artist? That i seriously doubt. Also, there's no reason to bring race into it. It has nothing to do with anything. People listening to him on the radio can't see his race. No one unfamiliar with him hears his song on the radio and says "I'm not sure if i like that song, i'll have to research the artist and see what race he is first" Music has always historically transcended race, thats one of the things thats great about it. Leave it to Vice, to try and create division by pointing out someone's race, like it even matters.
@jackward67266 жыл бұрын
But THERE ARE tons of people making the exact same music. The top 40 is pretty much dominated by this simplistic shit. And don't say they're dissing him because he's a white rapper. Eminem was widely acclaimed in his better years whereas you don't hear any critical acclaim for post Malone despite the huge sales
@CortezBumf6 жыл бұрын

Music isn't about how simple or complex the chord progressions or the songwriting are, it's about what you do with them. Some of the greatest songs ever were done with only 3 chords, hell, even 2 chords (Nirvana - something in the way for example). Also, Post Malone has a great singing voice so it's not like anyone can just follow that formula and achieve the same amount of success he did. You say it takes no real talent, except that's just stupid to say because if it took no talent everyone would be doing it if they could be as successful as he is with "no real talent".

Their arguments about Post Malone winning the popularity race by being average in everything and by having catchy and overly simplistic melody/lyrics are really invalid because none of it distinguish him from other 100s of garage bands. When I've heard his ''Psycho'' for the first time in the radio I immediately fell in love with his voice, it was instant and never happened to me before so as for me what makes him unique is his voice. All other things like catchy songs and nice personality are helpful but don't define his success IMHO.

Great video, but you really didn't have to bring race into this.

why is the topic making you uncomfortable?

@@agdamaster I like how you comment on every commeny that brings this up, you got anything better to do than try to antagonize people who think it could have been left out
@agdamaster6 жыл бұрын
@@morsecode.6686 I do. But I also do think that this whole peaceful 'could have been left out' schtick is quite harmful. while you're being annoyed that "VICE is talking about race yet again", other people's actual lives are still being affected by the issues that are covered here. you can enjoy your music, or any other art form you like, but don't go pretending like your favorite art pieces aren't covering real life issues, or affecting them by ignoring them with a similar "my art is not political" approach, employed by some of the artists

Why is he so catchy? It starts with the music lol.... wow is that what that is

I like how authentic and relatable he is! In his songs as well as in interviews and stuff. You can tell the guy is genuine and its a breath of fresh air compared to most rappers who are really cocky and act like theyre on top of the world.

Why is everyone hating on this video? They do a in depth analysis as to why most post Malone songs top the chart. I learned a lot of new things that apply to music. Maybe instead of hating you try to grasp the information that they give, it can actually be proven interesting
@henryberrylowry95126 жыл бұрын
This analysis is really quite shallow. Repetition is the mechanism by which groups of people can be swayed, not by Reason or justification, but blind submission to the established conditions. This is a classic example of the culture industry of late capitalism.

Your analysis sounds like how Mr. Spock would describe music: "Repetition is the mechanism by which groups of people can be swayed, not by Reason or justification, but blind submission to the established conditions"
@yousaidwhaaaattt86316 жыл бұрын
You say it is shallow but you agreed with it? Don't try to sound smart by discrediting something yo actually agree with. Being smart is acknowledging where things come from and not trying to"sound" smart. Anyone with real intelligence will see through the blinders you are trying to establish. An angry genius is a thing but it is just not you.
