Yeah. Vice News has been doing good reporting for years even if they're often clearly from a left wing perspective. I think a lot of these comments are just from people who think any story critical of conservatives or right wing politics is "fake news" even if its just as accurate as their less political content. Also, VIce never "went woke" they've been "woke" forever, long before it was repurposed as a meaningless snarl word. And going broke isn't really a thing, "woke" corporations do it because its profitable. If it was actually costing them money then movie studios, tech companies, big brands, etc wouldn't be doing it -- some individuals in the company might care, but as a whole corporations are basically uncaring automatons driven by profit and can't actually give a damn about social issues outside of whether it can make them money: its performative. If pandering to bigots made them more money, the abstract forces of profit motive animating the company would lead to the firing of anyone being "woke" and it would pander to bigots instead, just look at most of the 20th century. But culture, society changes and its now unprofitable. @@lukegaming86

Yeah, they're trying to get back to where they once were, but unfortunately for them it's too little too late. These kinda documentaries would easily get millions, sometimes tens of millions of views, and now they only get a small fraction of that ... When a company caters to the vocal minority and ignores 90% of their customers, that's what happens. Disney is going through the same thing. It's why corporations shouldn't get involved in politics.

I swear every other video I hear people saying this is the old vice I missed, but to me their documentaries about foreign conflicts and war zones has always been consistently good. Sure they dabbled in weird videos about influencers in LA, but none of their serious reporters associate with their buzzfeed style videos. An organization like vice has many styles and fields of reporting without much overlap, so that’s why quality can vary so severely.

Do you remember when Russia first invaded Crimea that Simon guy had like a 70-80 part documentary series on the conflict ?? And then he was himself kidnapped because the Russians saw it . That was 2014 ish . Warlords of Liberia . All these are old classic documentaries . Even why we fight about the afghan war that only shows the ANA getting high while usa troops are like wtf is even going on. Now a days it’s like , why is white milk racist ? Why is Trump the biggest threat to McDonald’s ? Why does Mitch McConnell look like a turtle ? The only way you can truly believe this is if you weren’t acrually around in Vices golden age . Because if you were you’d know that 80% of what they put out is junk compared to back then. Why do you think they went bankrupt ? @@MrCRASHERXDNo, it is a sacred solar symbol that is very capacious in its meaning. It is an Old Slavic sign that signifies the process of destroying everything hostile, old and false, and the power and will to renew and reborn. This is a traditional symbol of Ukrainians and some other ethnic groups, which for a long time was the exclusive attribute of priests. And only later it was massively used as a pagan sign to help people survive hard times. That is why in Ukraine it is used as a talisman, not as a Nazi symbol, especially since there are almost no problems with Nazism in Ukraine and they are much less than in many other countries

If say, everyone that enjoyed Vice payed $10-20 a month, they could focus on just this material. But because no wants to pay, they have to make tons of clickbaity content that someone like you probably call woke. The clicks then let Vice charge advertisers the money they need to produce pieces like this. They still out stuff like this, never stopped. Just keep in mind that your unwillingness to pay along with most other ppl is why Vice needs to make way more trash than treasure in order to still try to stay afloat.

26:00 I felt like when he asked the laywer who he felt would kill him, that the unspoken truth was that he was literally asking the lawyer "After you just embarrassed us in front of the western media, who would you suggest I send to your home tonight to come and kill you?" And the way the other africans in the room stared him down as if to say "Not now, we agree but you're going to get us shot." The way the mercenary glances at the camera, trying to find a way to communicate the severity of his anger in a coded way. Perhaps I'm overthinking it, but there appears to be layers to this interaction.

That's how I read the situation too. I wonder if the local interpreter was trying to explain to Vitali that he's a lawyer as a way to dismiss him as someone they need to worry about since the legal system of the CAR is practically non-existent. I felt like it all depended on what VICE would publish, so now I fear he is in danger (if he hasn't already been threatened or disappeared)

There is a lot of Bias, is just that it goes with the propaganda you have, or is more subtle. For example, when they talk about the Ukrainian captured Wagner prisioner, she doesn't ask how Ukraine is treating him, but talked about how he "defected". Then, when talking about the Wagner captured Ukrainian soldier, his first question was about torture are more. The idea there is obvious

I’m glad to see that a lot of this focused on CAR and their clients in Africa. The stories from Ukraine and the mutiny/Prigozhin’s death aren’t news to most people, but CAR is already a place your average westerner knows little about. I’m surprised at some of the stuff you had access to…think I’m most surprised they let those guys wear “je suis Wagner” shirts, with the whole “Russian instructors” thing to try to have some thin screen of plausible deniability.

@@chrischrin Putin isn't connected to military as much as minister of the MOD Shoigu or general staff of the MOD Gerasimov. There are speculations about who may had done it and there are several theories about levels of relations of these 3 aforementioned people. Judging from any side it is not known WHO actually was to benefit from Prigozhin's death the most, so it's wrong to assume straightly that it was in interests of Putin to commit assasination on his one of the most useful and valuable assets

What are you talking about? They literally embedded for a time with the "Russian Instructors" (Wagner) in CAR. You can see they were speaking with head of operations there and the deception/misdirection they were using to hide the crimes they had allegedly committed. Obviously there was anonymity with some of the people speaking out as they rightfully feared for their wellbeing had their claims been attributed to their names. Regardless, you also saw the lawyer who spoke out directly to the leader's face, and he was quick to take back his words after some further questioning.

@@jamiemonroe4144 Still it's outside Wagner. Journalist only gets to talk to the representative guy, not the actual fighters and conditions they live in.
