kkknotcool You're a fucking idiot. KFC isn't even that expensive, plus it was a gift for his wife. They probably only eat there on occasion. Anyway that guy looks a shit ton more content with his life than anyone I ever knew, so what would it matter anyway?
@kkknotcool10 жыл бұрын
@112396928758283081088 Lets do some math. lets say that the KFC pack he bought was 5 dollars and he spent 8 hours in the mine. He makes 2 dollars an hour, so it cost him two and a half hours of work. The lowest american wage is about 9 dollars, so yeah, 40 minutes for KFC isn't a big deal in America. But do you really think he can afford that kind of mistake when hes that close to destitution. When I grew up I got KFC maybe once a year and I lived a good deal above the mean income level.(there is a good reason cheap people are rarely in want)
@bingtonghow10 жыл бұрын
kkknotcool You are an imperialist idiot. I can imagine that when you have nothing, something like treating your family to something special becomes what you live for. How can you say that's the real reason people stay poor? People like these miners stay poor because history fucked them up. They are in a situation that is very difficult to escape and the government is not helping them. So much injustice you choose to ignore...

how can you even compare buddy, homeless in the US are dying daily.....how is someone homeless in the states considered wealthy with nothing? You assume most homeless people are begging on corner streets which is a lie. out of the thousands i've seen just in 1 states, only a handful actually beg.
@icynok8 жыл бұрын
you can't go on welfare if you are homeless....sorry, not sure where you read that lie, and plenty of the homeless here are Veterans...I am sure they would know of benefits even as homeless, or are you saying that homeless here aren't dying? Must be easy living in your little Naive world thinking it is easy like that to get a job as a homeless person, that is why we have so many homeless people right? Most companies won't hire homeless people, for the fact that most homeless people don't have the option of being presentable to a interview, having a reliable form of transportation, nor would they be able to keep themselves orderly(clean,presentable cloths) while working. What is the point of *Options* if you can't take advantage of those options? Being able to Window shop is no better than what you are comparing them to.

To throw in the geologist/miner's POV or rather the economic picture, South Africa is in a stready decline as the easily mined deposits, not only of gold, but also their other primary export commodities like platinum, diamonds and chromium, are almost depleted, with double-digital declines each year. That is going on even though the market has been paying high prices for the last couple years. So it's not just some temporary price crash, instability after the end of Apartheid, or problems with the ANC government that forced mining businesses to close down, they will not simply return next Tuesday unless gold prices explode (and stay that way) even beyond what we've seen after the housing bubble. Prospectors had no luck finding new minable deposits in the Witwatersrand for several decades, and they were definitely trying. It seems like it's just the scraps that are left over, and if this industry dies completely, South Africa as a nation will be in for a very bleak future. The entire wealth of South Africa, it's prominent role on the continent as we know it, is largely based on what is under the ground. This transition will definitely not be pretty. If you think South Africa is having a crime problem right now...

SymbolX What the fuck, no. It's because they lack education and resources, not because they're inherently stupid or lesser.
@TheRealXartaX10 жыл бұрын
SymbolX I don't think you realize that you can't just change a generation over night. The human brain doesn't work that way. You have to change the third-world population gradually over generations by educating their children, etc. If you brought some guy from year 1500 in the middle of Europe to our time he would be just as ignorant and stupid. This isn't because they are inherently more stupid or lesser people. It's just the environment they grew up in. This is why we need to help third world countries with education and safety. I've personally grown up in a multicultural society where I've had to deal with first-generation immigrants from all over the world who had mostly fucked up values (exceptions existed, of 'course). Their kids would be a mix, because they were influenced by them at home, but western values and friends at school and such. It was easy for me to see that it is society that shapes people, even as a kid, not background and "race" (I don't really like that term). Just take a deep breath and think about it. It's easy to place blame on others, but it's better to rise above it and think about how to make the world a better place to live in - for everyone.

In a way, watching this, I get a sense that a pretty good way to redress some of the ills of SA history might be to legalise and regulate the mining of that gold. Imagine, helping these guys to form legal small gold mining operations. Maybe just a small way to open up an avenue for previously disadvantaged folk to take advantage of a resource that in many cases their ancestors were heavily exploited to dig up for European and Afrikaaner fatcats once upon a time? That first guy that was interviewed seemed to indicate that he hadn't even known what gold was until his buddy told him. Hard to imagine from my point of view.

it's sad that such country like south africa with very large gold reserves but still unable to exploit from it and those poor people who put themselves in such horrible conditions just to make a living is just sad,the government should legalize their activities and provide them with the proper tools and training other than chasing them down,like that they will be able to make use of this gold in the best way possible not just for them but for the entire country as well...
@joeblack44369 жыл бұрын
+Hozyafa Abdullhamead There are plenty of legal mines in SA that produce a hell of a lot of gold at huge profit and have thousands of miners who make decent wages. These are just the illegal activities at mines where it became too expensive to operate. SA's gold is plentiful, but it is very deep underground - kilometres. It takes extraordinarily well planned and organised effort to extract it profitably.
