Nice and relaxing overview of apartment style in Vincenza - Thanks. What makes all the difference with these enclosed piazza type communal back yard areas is the greenery. It is well planned and beautifully maintained. Creates a natural environment in a fairly enclosed space for all living in a number of these apartment blocks. The bonsai and vegetable gardens are fantastic giving off that earthy sense Italians have. There are lots of shrubs and even small trees on the balconies as well. I generally dislike the invasive nature of people looking in from high density apartment living but the Italian attitude of greenery everywhere creates a much more private and natural environment. It is the attitude of the people living there that create these natural environments. In Australia, the communal backyard apartments are mostly concrete unless there was a highly paid maintenance fee for a beautified garden area. Looks like Italians do it themselves which is a major credit to their way of living.

One thing I loved about Italy was not needing insect screens in windows! Flies and mosquitos are so bad here in Canada, if even you have a small rip in a screen they all just let themselves in 😠
