For this one time amateur drummer, both of you are impressive as hell on this complex rhythm. I had the ultimate joy to see Dave Weckl perform with his jazz band many years ago and was blown away by his style and mastery around the drum set. Enjoyed watching and listening to the breakdown! And Vic Firth was always my choice for quality drum sticks!

That is great Austin! Man, just hearing you verbally communicate the concept of being able to hear upbeat triplets at higher tempos really helped me out - been playing drums for many many years and have experienced that brain trick so many times but have never really put much thought to it - THANK YOU!!

really enjoying this series. I think a breakdown of the first ten seconds of 'Vinnie Colaiuta live at the baked potato part 5' on youtube would be a great installment. It's the most savage ten seconds of drumming I've ever seen.

My ego had prevented me from subscribing to this channel and it was because subconsciously I was trying to avoid reminders of the kind of homework I ought work on in order to enhance my playing vocabulary and abilities to which I could then bring on offer to gigs and band band scenarios. Recently, I've been actively seeking material for earnest work which I finally now have the enthusiasm for and then so now only realised that I hadn't subscribed to this channel still! I've enjoyed these videos even through my stubborn period(private stubborn period though as outwardly I've always praised this guy and his absolutely top breakdowns) but only now subscribed meaning no more accidentally coming across this on my suggested feed. If any other drummer can relate to this, do subscribe, the resource this channel offers you when you come out of your rut is priceless! Have always enjoyed but avoided at the same time. But now it's time for homework so forget that past, covid wasn't fun but not a reason not to grow

Thanks! I've been doing that for a long time in a Latin music assemble but never thought of the structure of it. It came naturally in some of my solos. Now that I'm going back to playing drums this video is definitively helpful.

Dave Weckl explains this in his video natural evolution. (dont get me wrong, i appreciate your video, but i think everyone should also check out the sourcem since he explains a lot more concepts around this also). This idea like the blush-da, except without the drags, was allready used in the 50s by some drummers.
