Having studied with Chris, counting was one of the best tools for learning and understanding what I’m playing I got from him. Many other things, but counting helped lay the environment where ideas could grow.

You are the greatest teacher my man much respect although I'm a bass player you taught me some things and you can call it percussively, syncopation-wise, Para-diddles, quadra-piddle, etc., I love it... Thanx much bro
@phillamoore157 Жыл бұрын
Interesting....I was doing those exact same paradidle exercises (incorporating) back when I first learned paradiddles, in high school, as well. Until, this video, this is the first time I've seen a player do these EXACT same ones...including the counting. He's right, counting with the exercises is incredibly important, if you want to get the most out of this. I know it made a huge difference in m playing. Great video.....thanks for sharing!
@rayaguilar75512 жыл бұрын
man i need a tuning video on the whole set 😍
@jasperallen2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this video has some really valuable, no nonsense information. Counting was huge for me, because it allowed me to understand where players chose to place certain patterns and embellishments, eliminating most of the guesswork. Even just being aware of the subdivision helps, because you're able to change the entire conviction and integrity of a single idea. As Chris demonstrated in the video, switching up dynamics is another huge factor in milking the same one pattern into a handful of new ideas too. In my opinion, this is really where a lot of the Gospel cats shine.

Great lesson. Another one would be showing people how to work on accuracy/precision. Recording oneself; comparing each 16th note played with a tight 16th-note click track; identifying which notes stray too far ahead or behind (e.g., 50MS); drills to correct, etc.

If anyone wants a double bass application to these paradiddle beats, check out “Liquid Fire” by Gojira. Same pattern in the hands, but the foot pattern is 3 16th note kicks followed by 2 16th note rests (kkkrr) and it displaces. At the end of the song it’s the same foot pattern but double paradiddles in the hands😵💫
