March 2017 was when I lost my father to cancer those last 7 months were the closest we have ever been it’s kinda sad because up until then we weren’t too too close but we were still chilling but that time he had left he used to be with me and my mom knowing he didn’t have much left he told me he had 2-3 years before it got him but he was lying to save me the burden of knowing the loss coming early 2 years later my mother passed away I carry being stone cold but also having a heart I carry both of them with me still to this day

RDR 2 is one of the very few games that managed to push me or made me feels that doing "good" things are more rewarding and satisfying than destroy everything in your path. Ofc, being bad in RDR 2 is also fun, experimenting how much the people and world around the player reacts to our bad deeds are interesting in it's own way. Gotta love character who try their best to be better than yesterday despite how flawed and imperfect they are

Haven’t watched much of the video, but I wanted to say that rdr2 has taught me more than one thing. I’m restarting the game (I’ve never finished it and am attempting again) and it’s become very apperent that one of the messages this game sends is “to be careful of who you decide to trust” and to “be aware of any other possible outcomes when interacting with people” More than once I judged just by body language in that game that someone was either nervous, or calculated. I’ve determined if they are actually asking of help or have an ulterior motive. A good example is the random mexican robbery encounter on your way north into the coldest regions. Just watching how he spoke when asking for help and his body language already put me off. But then he started approaching me for no reason. So I was ready when he pulled a gun. Shot him dead right between the eyes then and there. And I’m sure everyone knows Micah that’s why I gave this example here. I’m a high honor player so killing isn’t my first choice, but i also know that in a dangerous world it has to be your second option. If they won’t back down peacefully and walk away well then they won’t like the 4lb revolver in my holster. Another thing it taught is to also take into account a persons situation before making action. Such as in Saint Denis. There is a beggar who is blind, except he isn’t actually blind. He’s faking it for pity to make money. Which yes deceiving people isn’t okay. He’s also flat broke and can barely feed himself. So I decided to give him some cash but also showed him that some people won’t be as forgiving as I am if they figure it out.

I think the reason i cried so much during red dead is because I relate so much to Arthur. Like him, in my childhood I was always running to save a burning ship. And thru being a people pleaser, much like Arthur. I tried to keep the wrong people happy far to long, and I did things I am ashamed of because i couldn't say no to my peers, or i just didn't idk. Now I'm trying to just be there for those who really matter, I could do better but I'm trying to be responsible and not fuck things up because I'm trying to play both sides. Unlike Arthur tho, I am not dead. I get a chance our beloved arthur rightly deserved, something to be grateful for.

The game came out in 2018, so 19 year old me experienced it in a different POV then how I experience now whenever I play and finish the game. I think one of the most rewarding and insightful things about the game is to see how your moral compass has changed/or not changed over the years. In that sense, the game’s replay-ability is unmatched.

The second a game starts to make you cry, I think it transcends its medium. It's less, the movie or game is really good, and more, you found a personal connection to the game and that connection allows you to FEEL what the writers want you to feel, it allows you to think as if you're one with Arthur, and you find yourself rooting for this man, trying to help him live a fulfilling life. Because at the end of the day, that's the only goal there is.

I’ve watched more than a dozen of different video essays on RDR2 from various content creators and by far this is the best one I’ve seen. What the heck? How are this channel and this video not more well-known and widely praised? This man’s depth of his own original analysis and his width of knowledge of other media sources (just how many different literature works, historical facts and figures, modern films and tv shows were displayed as references) to establish his arguments is bewildering. The fact that he moved from a rural suburb to Denmark makes me think his native tongue is not even English (also his accent is telling) and yet the way he can articulate his thoughts and philosophies in more eloquent manner better than most native English speakers is just astonishing. How? Bravo. Just truly phenomenal work. Instant like and subscribe. I dare-guess you’re an astonishing media critique, not in just games? Is that what you studied in? Philosophies? Media and literature arts?

Sometimes I will go for a long drive and memories will come to me, things I said, things said to me, regrets, cherished moments, dangerous times, all that jazz. Sometimes it makes me sad, thinking about the coming end and what I've yet to do, sometimes it settles my emotions by reminding me that I've done good here. Walking that path with Arthur hit me hard. Hearing the voices of his past come to him in those last moments, feeling something I know all too well. It hit me like a ton of bricks. This is where the cowboy would ride away.

He thinks he’s the, “second heavy from the left,” in Dutch’s gang and that’s it. As he grows into a better person he becomes the main character, even to himself, with a mission of importance that reaches beyond his own life, his desires and becomes about saving a family.

There a few games that can bring generations together or actually relate w/ the death from an illness or bad decisions as well as those regrets which haunt us until we die. If you have been told how long you have left to live etc. it truly changes you in one way or another ..the morality system is creepily accurate in some regards. When you know your dying.. its a funny thing

red dead redemption 2 taught me morality. And just how important it is to understand where you stand by it, and process in life how much good and bad have you done. Because it lets you make a choice for the betterment for yourself and others. And letting me know why it’s important to be good to others.

The interaction between Dutch and Arthur in regards to John being freed is a perfect scene showing Arthur believed in the values Dutch raised him with but Dutch, the very person who instilled those values did not actually believe in those values. Ironic Dutch brought up loyalty there, trying to gaslight Arthur, after Arthur just engaged in an act of loyalty. It's a shame in RD1 John didn't put the bullet in Dutch's skull. Not only would have been justified but MAYBE would have decreased the chance of Ross turning on him which led to Jack becoming an outlaw

Before even watching this video, i feel like most story driven games have a moral lesson, and i would argue one could learn a life lesson from a game. especially kids when i played red dead 2 on launch at 13 that shit hurt harder than my mom on report card day.

3:00 the part you said about the truth we often ignore and how our future may not unfold the way we'd like it to just hit something in me man. let's just say that i work in a popular industry and i have worked so hard to get a step up the ladder to success that i often neglected my real relationships and nurtured fake relationships. Was so focused on the goal that I didn't take time to slow down and take a look around me. then i realized how lonely I was when I started having health issues and everyone I called my friends went on with their lives without me but I don't blame them because everybody has the right to pursue their dreams. I just wish I wasn't so rude towards the people who I consider my real friends but ehh... that's life and you live and learn. I just wish I knew this eariler.

24:40 missed opportunity to put Dutch's legendary "We can't Fight change... We can't fight gravity" from RDR 1 (better version imo as it illustrates the importance of accepting change and hard truths) or 2 as a full piece, not just a background image at 28:20 Awesome vid btw, a really deep analysis of the value of this game and not just it's story. Worth showing your parents/grandparents/friends/kids who don't see the value games/movies/books *may* have
