interesting visit in private family style of life , have you been till the north of the north ?? coz may be only by boat even at low tide , Abatao is only the begining of the north, where may be nobody is living.....it is longer than Bonriki to Betio !!!

Hi Gerard, Abatao is as far north as I could go, there was no way to go further north other than walking..

+Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures ok by foot it is may be 30 km till Buariki. And before, it is wider between the islands. As i read population in Kiribati is a lot, may be people is living far away in the North but no road , no doctor, no shop etc... I try to see the plane fares from Fiji to Tarawa but it's seems very expensive, even the flight via Nauru... About Tuvalu, it is written that sometimes Fiji Airways cancel the flight (i imagine if only a few of passengers)...

Stunning scenery and a place I want to visit myself. Is this something that can be arranged with a local guide ? Can it be a daytrip from Bairiki ? or is this something that one has to do on it's own ?

+Cta2006 Yes, it is a day trip from Bairiki, no problem. But, you must get to the island before Abatao by bus and then cross at low tide, so check the times for the tides and plan accordingly... There is a bus that will take you to the previous island and then you have to cross that island on foot (it takes 45 minutes) and then cross to Abatao at low tide.. It can be done (this is the way I did it) if you leave Bairiki early (maybe around 8-83:30 am)...
