Victim in 'heinous' Venice Canal sexual assault taken off life support

One of the victims of a brutal sexual assault along the Venice canals was taken off life support Friday night after being in a coma for nearly two months.
Sarah Alden, 53, was declared brain dead earlier this week. She had planned to move across the country from Massachusetts to Venice Beach in California, a dream she had worked hard to achieve.
Ready to start her new life, she had just signed a lease for an apartment in Venice and was walking along the famed canals on April 6 when she was brutally raped and assaulted.

People, who haven't, should read the many papers written by doctors and medical researchers about the designation "brain dead." Many organs cannot be used if the donating human is not physically alive. The designation "brain dead" allows organs to be removed before life support is turned off. I have worked with these populations for 25 years. In my opinion, the homeless population is evenly split among three categories: 1) mentally ill, some of whom caused their own mental illness by using drugs; 2) druggies; and 3) loafers. When I talk with law enforcement officers, they are in agreement. Homeless, crazies, and druggies from across the country all come to California. It’s interesting that they’re not too crazy to figure out how to get on a Greyhound bus and come here. If every state took care of its own, we wouldn’t have such a problem in California.
