His statement on Appalachia in the US is particularly concerning when you consider that the chunk of it nearest to him, the chunk from West Virginia down to Georgia, has the actual poorest areas in the country with some of the worst education opportunities (seriously, a study in the mid-2010s showed the area in the US with the worst chance to go the college was Southeastern West Virginia). I always find it shocking lefties in America bear such seething hatred towards the poorest people in this country. Just goes to show how fake it all is.

Interesting thing I learned reading about the Russian revolution was that most of the college educated Marxist and communist organizers had no real interest or ability to connect with the working classes in factories and farm areas. The Bolsheviks ended up relying on left leaning priests and other organizers with closer (actual) ties to the poorer populations in Russian cities. There is a very common theme of the party leadership relying upon these people and their collectivist principles just to later stab them in the back simply to consolidate personal power.

So yes, McDonald’s employees do make a minimum of $20 an hour in California. How comparable that is to a new EMT in California, I have no idea, but fast food employees absolutely make $20 an hour minimum.

I was referring to the overall minimum wage. I was unaware of this new bill. I found one source that said an EMT starts at 16 an hour but most said at least 20 which rises to 30 after they gain some experience. I believe they should get paid more though. I work as a glazier in California and I’m paid 30 an hour and am still progressing to 45 which is what a very experienced glazier could make. Some specialists can be paid even more. I say all that to point out that I think EMTs are grossly underpaid but I still don’t think the comparison to McDonald’s is warranted. Especially considering that they can end up with a significantly higher wage with experience
